Can Y’shtola die for good?
I think, I am the only one who like Lyse… :’)
Spoilers for FF IV but...
Doesn't like, everyone that isn't part of Telah's immediate family survive? (Also King Baron, but I think he was supposed to be dead before the plot even kicks in.) Like, even the bad guy comes back for round two and gives a "So long as there is evil" line.
For characters, I'm a big softy who doesn't want anyone to die. Except Zenos. I want him to make a big speech, tell us how great our fight will be, and have Tataru (the weakest of our companions, for extra bite) to just drop a piece of White Auracite and a massive aether bomb on him while we go about doing other things.
The only person who really needs to die is Zenos.
I'm one of those people that doesn't need one of the good guys to die to like a story.
Maybe they'll subvert our expectations and have Zenos survive and join the Scions.
Of the playable characters, Tellah is the only one to actually die, but there quite a few fake out deaths. Edward is knocked off the boat by Leviathan and spends the rest of the story bedridden, Yang "sacrifices" himself to blow up a bunch of cannons but is saved by the Sylphs and later joins the dwarves in attacking the Giant of Babil with a tank, Cid literally jumps off his airship with a bunch of C4 strapped to his chest to blow up a mountain and then goes on to build a new fleet of airships to attack the Giant of Babil, and then the twins Palom and Porom turn to stone to save Cecil but they get slapped with some Soft Sand and send thoughts and prayers to defeat Zeromus. So yeah, only one main character death.
Anyways, here's to hoping G'raha dies in Endwalker. His creepy "WoL-senpai, look at me" personality is garbage and it was already a mistake bringing him back after the sendoff the Exarch got in 5.3. I don't actually expect anyone to die though, especially after Shadowbringers. Thancred had a wonderful "final" scene in Amh Araeng, came back fine. Y'shtola yeeted herself into a hole and used Flow again, came back fine. G'raha as mentioned up above. I think Ishikawa is too scared to actually kill any of the Scions.
I don't really hope that anyone will die outside the villains.
But if I had to choose I'd say Alphinaud or Thancred, because I feel like their character arcs are fairly complete.
More complete than the others I'd say.
You're not, Pyromancer who was a big WoW lore streamer and went over to FFXIV hated her at first but thought she was great later on.
I think that the issue is that a lot of people just found her annoying in the beginning and then they wrote her off completely ( do they not remember Alphinaud? He was annoying as shit throughout ARR rofl. ).
Lyse grows A LOT in Stormblood, especially in the post story she's a totally different character entirely but I think a lot of people don't notice because they don't pay attention.
I liked seeing her step up in the leadership role and she did a great job and showed a lot of promise.
She still kept some of her dumb persona from Yda but I rly don't think that her actions actually were dumb later on.
But yeah I really think that the extreme levels of hate towards her some people have is very weird and unjustified.
I get some of the disappointment about Yda and her stupidity being annoying at first but I mean...
This is FFXIV, characters grow and change a lot that's kinda the point.
So I dunno why that was so strange for people with Lyse too.
If they kill off my boy Alphinaud, ima f flip. But who knows . Guess we have to wait and see in game to find out T^T IM NOT READY FOR THIS :( i really love everyone >____<
I agree. I do NOT like Graha Tia at all. Only Scions I like are Tataru and Estinien.
Estinien and Gaius Baelsar are probably the more interesting and fleshed out characters. I would not be surprised if Gaius is being groomed to be the future Garlean Emperor at some point.
I don't think Zenos will join the Scions. He's a Blood Knight archetype that functions as a Big Game Hunter kind of dude that wants to fight for the sake of fighting. Varis IMO was a better villain and in proper Gestahl fashion was thrown away.
Zenos is irredeemable with all the death he has caused. Fandaniel will be satisfying to kill since he's just a bad imitation of Kefka, is unfunny and players will want revenge for Tsuyu.
Unless Endwalker pulls out some incredible stuff I think it is going to be hard to top Emet Selch and Elidibus. Which IMO even Elidibus is trumped by Emet Selch.
Smells like edge it here. Anywho, please let it be Zenos he's trash.
I feel it would be unlikely, but a huge move and one I'm just calling for fun because Yoshida said something like "would they really go that far?" and we die. . . Lol. Though Yoshida's comment wasn't in context of this thread, so it could be other things like maybe they connect Vana'diel to this game, Atomos travel, or something.
WoL gets their Chrono (Chrono Trigger) / Cloud (FFVII) moment, with trusts coming in for the win.
Zenos, to add to the ridcliousness hes been the Job premier villian twice. Once when SAM was new and again whith RPR just axe him hes freaking boring
Lyse, please? She is one of the reasons why SB feels lackluster, and it was frustrated to see her "character development" moments, which didn't develop her at all. I don't want to see her ever again, though the healer's role quest that starts with an Ala Mhigan delegate in EW seems saying otherwise.
Lyse at least knew she was irrelevant and decided to stay put. Just don't open that can of worms again
No one in particular ? Or only if it adds something to the story, killing just for the sake of getting rid of a character i don't like seems dumb.
I mean, she took Minfilia—a character who outright promised she'd be coming back alive—out back behind the shed for what should have been her return to the story. Literally, the first mention of her name in Shadowbringers is Ardbert telling you she's been dead for a hundred years, and her first actual scene is her ghost telling Thancred (and by extension the player) to get over it and move on.
Which makes it all the weirder that she has such a hard time actually killing off anyone else. Even Elidibus and Emet-Selch, the expansion's final antagonists, had their deaths written with obvious back doors to let them come back anytime the writers want.
Lyse. I’m lowkey salty because of her design. She’s a perfectly blonde-haired, blue-eyed, inexperienced and bland character meant to represent the downtrodden. I was salty when Raubahn didn’t take on the mantle of leadership that he deserved. So seeing her removed from the storyline would be desirable. I hate her design and her character.
Krile,alisaie and tataru.
I hope G'raha Tia and 2 other Scions die (probably Thancred/Y'shtola/Yrianger/Estinien). And maybe a city state leader or two.
I expect no one to die. Yeah yeah the trailer hyped up Alphinaud but ShB also hyped up the exarch biting the bullet and he didn't.
There's a pretty obvious metric by which you can determine if a character has a chance to die or not.
Y'shtola, Alisaie, Estinien, Krile, Uriangier, are always at 0% death chance.
Why?
Because they appear in quests outside of the MSQ. If a character is seen in non MSQ quests, they will never die in the MSQ.
When the Crystal Tower series was optional, G'raha Tia's death chance was 0%. Now that it's mandatory, he has a nonzero chance of death. Let's say, a 1% chance.
You can apply this rule in general to the whole game to figure out who might die and who absolutely will never die. Enjoy.
Krile and Fordola I just can not take to those characters....I hope Uriangereth is ok <3
Was it not stated that taking trips into the livestream shortens your life if so y'shtola would be my pick.
Thancred
Why did we get a whole expansion of "The Search for Minfilia" that went far too long mostly because of Thancred's b!@#r? She did hardly anything. It's like when they realized this, they decide it was "Minfilia all along" Now she's the biggest hero by proxy.
Also bring back or give some closure to Papalymo's story. Now he was a true hero!
Y'shtola, Alphinaud, Alisae, Krile and Lyse can die for sure, maybe even some of those boring others like Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn and Kan-E-Senna. I hope Zenos will change his mind at some point and helps us to survive.
None of the Scions will die. Let's be real here.
Thancred would be the most likely since his development is over, but like G'raha he will be saved by the power of fan favoritism.
If anyone will die other than Zenos and Fandaniel, it will be a character that's divisive, used to be hated or is currently still hated. Alternatively a character that can't do much else in the plot going forward so sacrificing themselves would be the only thing they could do for action. If they get as much spine as they had before Stormblood they will make a new character during Endwalker that will be killed off within Endwalker. Not much more than that.
For a "end of the world" scenario this will be as devoid of death, if not more, than Shadow-"darkest edgiest expansion guys"-bringers and end up being super colorful like it too.
My expectations for them to make the gravity of the situation impactful is really, really low.
As long as the death is meaningful and moves the story forward, any or all of them could die as far as I'm concerned. Since Sharlayan is going to be a major plot point, I could see it being ravaged or the Forum being torn down due to some internal strife and the remaining Scions/Archons returning there to handle the restoration and run the country going forward. This might be the best option as it'll get the characters out of the way while not upsetting the player base a lot by killing them off.
Lyse should go away by returning to Ala Mhigo to run the country full-time.
I want to hire Tataru to handle my finances.
While Y'shtola's the face of the game, I could see them creating another character to fill that space.
I kind of hope the Warrior of Light dies.
And we get reborn into a normal adventurer and have to start all over again and gain our own power instead of borrowing it from a <bleeeeeep*spoiler*bleeeeeep>
Since we're all going to be isekaied into the game when we log in for the new expansion, Derplander's going to be there as the actual WoL so we won't have to worry about it! :D I've stocked up on basic provisions and CUL ingredients to sell to people when the markets sell out because the cities got flooded by all the adventurers suddenly showing up. Who said heroes can't also be war profiteers?
Zenos. And he stays dead.
So tired of him...
I know this is unpopular opinion but I really dislike Alisae and I would be completely fine if she was gone plus that's just more fuel for our boy Alphie to grow and become and even better character. He's grown so much as a character from 2.0 I honestly don't see how he gets so much hate these days.
Alisae on the other hand...
Honestly, I'm only expecting the two villains and the two gods to be gone by the end of the story.
I don't think any of the Scions or even established secondary characters could be given a death that wouldn't feel shoehorned in for the sake of drama at this point.
I would not be surprised about a newer character like Nerva (Assuming that's the guy in the judge armor) or Fourchenault getting offed, though.
