I mean, some of the old jobs like Dragoon got some nice visual updates on some skills.
Sure but they still feel like they have some left-overs like Vorpal Thrust.
And MNK still has the same combos we've had since ARR they look rly outdated imo especially stuff like Bootshine, True Strike and Snap Punch.
Demolish and Dragon Kick should be the standard and even then I think they still feel a bit old.
Reaper is just fresh all-around, when I watch them in action they do look significantly more modern than the rest.
I rly like what I've seen for the MNK rework but updated combos was one of my first wish for this reason.
It's what you do most of the time and it just looks and feels old.
New jobs are flashier to draw in players to try out the new jobs. Updates to current jobs are only reflected in the upgraded skills. Monk is one of those jobs that is very outdated much like Bard is before upgrades. You could argue Bloodletter still looks lame as hell.
Reaper and Sage animations are top level.
Where will the reaper quest start? What zone will I have a que for teleporting to?
You can turn into a "demon thing" for few seconds... makes it already my favourite job.
A lot of guesses about dark knights swapping over isn't totally unfounded. Reaper looks like it'll be more fun to play and I've been tanking since HW so it'll be nice to try something new. I also play Reaper in Guild Wars 2 and there's surprisingly quite a few similarities such as the shroud form and the shadowstepping
Yes, hello. Tis I, disillusioned DRK player.
I actually mained DNC throughout the entirety of ShB because DRK felt a bit too bland and after watching the various EW presentations, it became clear to me that the job would never quite feel the same as it did back in HW... which is when I enjoyed it the most.
Now, I mained WHM during ARR and, although I dabbled in healing via leveling SCH and AST in subsequent expansions, I never went in it as in-depth as I did when I mained the job. Part of me reaaaaaally wants to go back to healing with SGE but the part of me that loved DRK also finds RPR very, very appealing... I think that, ultimately, what I'll do is unlock both and take em into Bozja to get a feel for them. Historically, I've always stuck with jobs that just feel good to play, so it might sound silly to say but... if it "speaks" to me, then that's likely what I'll end up maining.
I've already decided I'm maining Reaper because it just SPEAKS to me. So much so I've capped Poetics, Allegory, Revelation and have full 72, 74, 76, 78, 80 gearsets ready to go for launch. And plan to spend an hour or two labbing out the class and putting all the HW, SB, ShB sidequests I've skipped to powerlevel Reaper casually before taking it to Bozja to get to 80 stress free then play the MSQ and easily get to 90. Very excited for the job. With Sage and Summoner as subs.
The true Dark Knight experience is upon us.
I just have the same hotbar and hud for everything and try to make it as identical as possible.
Obviously that's not possible 100% but I try and have it make logical sense and match similar abilities.
What if the reason why we get Soulsow and all these changes to ranged skills on melee jobs is because Endwalker's encounter design ends up having a lot of instances to get out of range for a lot of AoEs on the boss? I mean, RPR has a lot of mobility between jumping in and out, RDM has 2 charges on mobility, NIN has a couple more gap closers. MNK has multiple stacks of thunderclap, and it's purely close ranged DPS job.
Can Confirm.
You'd be surprised how ridiculous people make their hotbars on controller. >_>
Most of the streamer bars make little to no sense or needlessly separate ST and AoE on different bars.
You will never, and I can say never, cast Soul Sow if the boss is up. It is flat out a DPS loss over even a baseline harpe. (600 potency/3 GCDs = 200 potency/gcd, harpe is 300).
As for complaints about Reaper, I really hate the "of Death" abilities. A DoT that exists to insist upon itself. I feel the class could have both the ST and AoE versions of those abilities and literally nothing of value would be lost beyond the whole: "More soul gauge from killing enemies under this effect" part. Which could honestly just be a trait for any threated enemy dying. Soul Sow/Harvest Moon 100% needs to be reworked as well. It has the exact same problem as Monk in HW (Chakra) and SAM at Launch ShB (Shoha). A button you only press once, maybe twice during the course of a 10+ minute fight is not, and never has been, fun, or interesting. It just contributes to needless button bloat.
Animations are about as great as I expected and love the lore seen so far from the job quest BUT.. it all feels a bit underwhelming to me at 70, feels like they went with a more simplistic approach for people who prefer less abilities to press and stuff to micro manage. I'll stick with it as my DPS class (Tank main) but don't see it replacing DRG as my dps change of pace.
Agreed it feels like a class at lvl 30 before it gets its skills literally 1-2-3 guage? 4 5 repeat
Well other new jobs were like that at lvl 60 for rdm/sam in stormblood, Reaper really gets harder at lvl 80 (if you really try to not waste any ressources). Starting to judge bellow lvl 8O is a bit mutch imo.
So far i find it challenging (lvl 77 but did some bozja as well), but it's also because i'm getting used to everything.
I think it's fine. It's Heavy Thrust DRG without the jumps. I enjoy the builder spender playstyle. I wish the Soul skills were oGCD.
I barely got to touch it this morning... So maybe I'll be able to figure things out later lol. I could have sworn I felt some monk elements in there? Dragoon just feels smoother with rotations. Reaper felt more like it was resetting the bar too often.
I might have to swap out the aoe slots for the avatar buttons. But I don't want to make solo play too awkward either, cause that's mostly what I do...I solo this game.
I was able to play about an hour of RPR before work and while I wasn't blown away by the feel of the rotation, it is only level 70. I know things get spicy at 80 so I plan to push for that and then see if I stick with it. That said, the animations are so sick and I love the mobility/teleports.
Anxious to get back to it!
I saw one DPS today that wasn't a Reaper lol, one.
Edit: I did get it to 80 with some FC mates, it's fun but imo it feels a bit '' floaty '' for a lack of a better term.
It doesn't have a lot of impact imo.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it probably does moreso at 90 with the big finishers in Shroud.>
The floaty feel could be argued as fitting with the whole ghost theme etc.
But it does feel like the attacks are kinda just spinning around with not much impact ( again imo ).
But actually I kinda wanted to play MNK towards the end I just wanted to ding 80 and go back.
Again tho Reaper was fun, but it didn't completely blow me away.
The visuals are really great but ofc you'll get used to them and then I think the gameplay isn't that interesting at least not at lvl 80.
I do like however that it has some freedom it's not as on rails in the sense that you don't have to use everything on cd ( multiple stacks is a great idea imo, adds flexibility ).
But it did feel kinda repetitive imho.
Not sure what you mean with MNK, but yeah it did feel a bit looped.
It could be argued that all DPS are looped to some extent, but it just felt more obvioust to me on Reaper.
I'll lvl it to 90 and maybe I'll like it more, but I kinda feel like the visuals carry it a lot and that when the visuals get old It'll be less fun?
Will have to wait and see.
Unlocked it and played around with it a bit and lemme just say, it has been a while since I played a job that has felt "incomplete" right out the gate. Now, obviously, I wasn't playing with RPR's full kit since I'd just picked it up at 70, but yeah that definitely felt... interesting.
I took it to a dummy and a few minutes later when I had understood the "flow" of the job, I thought "...aaaand that's the end of it for now."
Maybe it's my hotbar set up but it feels kinda all over the place. Also now I have to apply the damage buff to enemies unless I missed the AOE version, I need to redo my hotbar when servers are back to normal. It feels powerful, but it's a bit of a button bloater right now.
I kinda love it, very fun but it doesn't really feel like a full job until 80, 76 at the earliest with gluttony since you need to work around the CD. By 78 you'll be using the 1-2-3 combo significantly less
Most jobs are designed around level cap for raids. It's why it feels empty. Especially at lvl 50. It slowly adds things as you level to not overwhelm you. I find the "Death" attacks to be annoying but SoD even at low level is STRONG.
The builder spender is simple and it's generally build gauge and spend gauge while keeping DD up. And SoD/WoD doesn't break your combos either. I find it very flexible. And Harpe is just as strong as Slice/SoD. So you have an answer to any situation I feel.
Arcane Crest is ridiculous for a DPS on such a low CD. And Bloodbath on this job is pretty amazing IMO.
Does reaper get any OGCds? At 70 it feels basic as hell sense you cant weave anything.
My biggest gripe with Reaper so far is that doing literally anything else other than using Gibbet and Gallows after you get Soul Reaver stacks will eat the stacks. This feels like an oversight more than intentional design but it still feels awful to deal with. Theres no reason using Bloodbath should eat the stacks.
I think Soul Reavers, instead of being a buff, need to be changed to an actual resource which you can stack and Gibbet and Gallows should be changed to OGCD's as resource spenders. This change would make the job feel much more fluid throughout its rotation instead of making its basic combo feel like its just really bad filler when you have nothing else to do because the basic combo feels so insignificant. Im only level 81 so far but based on the description of abilities acquired down the line it doesnt look like that will change but i could also have missed something.
I personally enjoy the use of oGCD to activate and combo Gibbet, Gallows and Gillotine, its like a reverse continuation and i particulary enjoy it, it's not hard to get use to it either and i hope it doesn't change, it's a unique feacture that reinforce Reaper identity and the gameplay itself is extremly adaptable with the soul stacks and the gauge cost allowing yo being able to hold stuff to fit it easily as the combat demand.
For now im having a really good experience with RPR, the job feels so tactical and complex but at the same time giving enough room to adapt any time it's really good, i still think soulsow is a bit strange but considering the rest stuff i have to handle i give it a pass.
Job is very easy. In fact I feel like it doesn't have much to do in its kit. Im actually disappointed in it. I could have sworn some streamers were saying "its complex" or "lots of combos"
Have you seen how some of these people play?
It's painful and hurts my soul.
With that said I think if you only spend a short while with it at lvl 90 I could see why you'd be super hype and think it's fun.
After you spend a lot more time on it tho I think it begins to sink in.
Reaper isn't awful or anything it's just not as hype as I thought, it feels like it's spectacle and kinda meh beyond that.
I am actually more hype about leveling DRG after MNK and SAM.
Edit: And yeah I dunno what people are talking about with '' complex ''.
What complexity exactly?
It's very very simple.
I do like that you don't have to use your spender on CD but that's not really complexity that's flexibility.
Same here it's a bit anoying tbh and the soul gauge fills very fast so i'll have to use my stacks as fast as possible.
The streamer didn't have a lot of time to get used to jobs, one i saw said that he had to rush un order to get everything he need to make all the videos. So yeah a new job (and one that can be confusing at the begining) will often be hard to understand.
Reaper is not complex it's new and easy to understand when you get past all the edgy names for the mecanics. At best the job can be confusing with all the edgy names.
For complexity i only see as a hard problem to resolve. The more steps you need to resolve a problem in a limited amount of time, the more complexity you get. It all depends on who you ask, some can resolve a problem that seem very complex to other very easly.
So just someone saying "the job us complex" is very vague if you don't know to who you talk, his level and in what conditions he played.
I do like Reaper but I am not sure if I will main it though. Only time will tell. My biggest complaint is really Shadow/Whorl of Death. Its not hard to keep up but it just feels annoying to apply. I think that is because I was a Ninja Main(shb) so Im used to Armor Crush refreshing huton.
Whorl of Death is amazing in Raids. You can tag all the mobs and swim in gauge as everyone kills everything for you.
After setting this up on the PS5 and having to redo my hotbar because I forgot to upload settings from PS4 to server like an idjit, I'm starting to like the flow of this job. It's very much like old DRG with some RDM mechanics.
It doesn't feel as bloated as I thought, once I set things in my controller hotbar I see where I errored and now things are starting to flow.
Wish our DPS buff was a "set it/forget it" because I've found a few times after maining SAM/MNK/newDRG that I forget to reapply Shadow/Whorl of Death. Or at least a longer cooldown, I try to apply it twice to get close to the full minute so I can focus on combos.
