Even the sale prices in the store are prohibitively expensive.

I hated the chocobo mount you get at the start, that got me to try the store out. I saw most of the cool kids doing it and I wanted to be a cool kid.

A few months on, I live in a cardboard box but at least I have some great glams, mounts, and emotes.

I've purchased roughly $5k in Lego sets over the last 2 years. Much more expensive hobby than playing video games.

Probably more than I've spent on XIV in 10 years, including all of the statues, fanfests (inc hotel and airfare), etc. Or at least pretty close to it.

I think the OP is just upset that the responses here pretty much mirror their previous post on the subject.

namely, they are optional items, and they are under zero obligation to buy them to play the game. the fact that they exist, and arent free, seems offensive. the fact that a company, wants to make money is problematic. and anyone... ANYONE who disagrees with them is some kind of moron who is rubbing Jamie's face in their money surplus instead of someone who just has a different opinion.

Because value is subjective.

If it WAS "prohibitively expensive and overcharging", the market wouldn't support it and no one would buy them. Yet, every update, we have hundreds of them in mor dhona and other zones showing them off and having fun within minutes.

SE owns the shop, they set the prices. Maybe you feel it’s too expensive, but the number of lunar whales I see regularly says a lotta people don’t.

I mean, imagine going to Disneyland and whining to the crowd around you about the price of their bottled water because you already paid the entry ticket price. You don’t have to like it, and indeed most people probably don’t, but you also don’t have to buy the bottled water for 5 bucks.

I pay for my shelter/food/transportation/utilities every month. I pay my taxes on time and I have no debt.

I am sorry if you cannot, but your personal situation is not everyones and your take is an extreme "sour grapes" situation. Just because others CAN afford something you claim they're excessively rich or spending unwisely.

The fact I have enough money to buy luxuries means I'm the opposite of careless. I don't even make a lot of money and I made even less when the game started to have cash shop items which I still budgeted for.

Maybe you spend a little of this "poor little me against the bigbad companies selling luxury items" energy on changing your financial situation and you would find that 3-30 dollars on an entertainment purchase that for the most part is relatively permanent , is not really all that expensive.

Yeah, I balk at some of the prices even though I can certainly afford it.

It just means I don't buy it unless it's something I know is going to bring hours of enjoyment. Only account wide mount I ever bought was Fatter Cat, and that's because I love maneki nekos and calicos and adore Fat Cat in general. It sparks joy.

To be fair the amount of stuff builds up over the years. And SE has always been really fair with their prices in my eyes since they don't shift and they don't tie them to a 6month sub etc.

Also it's a asian company, people from asia don't have problems with cashshops at all. Crying all over the place and being greedy with money seems to be a NA/EU thing, so no matter how much you fellas cry bout it they won't change it. And as long as they don't turn the shop into a cashcow like BDO i am fine with paying like 20 dollars extra every 3months or so. That is what it comes down to at the end. If twenty bucks every couple months is too much for you fellas, i don't want to be in the shoes of the waitress that has to get a 1dollar tip from you.

Or it could mean that they know how to manage their money so that they have disposable income to purchase things like this from mogstation or other online stores in a game and choose to do so because they want to. You're in no position to dictate to others what their values should be. If we decide to support a game we enjoy by purchasing things from the mogstation then that is our choice to make, not yours. If you choose not to buy something over the price set on it, then that is your choice. If you're blaming us for an inability to afford the items you want from mogstation because we're paying the prices that are currently set, then that would be a you problem and maybe you should take a look at yourself to figure out how you can fix it.

You know I used to play Star Trek Online and even they had better deals in their shop, and that IS a f2p game!

Uh I'll gladly be happy to just have any sale on any cosmetics. This is the only sale I've seen (Since I've been playing for a few months) that has almost the whole Mog shop being on sale. I was waiting for a sale on the cosmetics for the Lightning look. Looks like I may actually bite and get it

Even with the costume being at full price. I've seen costumes on games were it's $50+ just for one costume.

They were included with the sub price at the time they were released. This is a small community, if we were to go relative to scale we would be next door neighbors in an apartment complex. Neighbors get reputations very easily.

Starting a thread is the equivalent of having a open door public party.
Now when I come into your party to have fun only to see a whole bunch of cocaine being done off hookers and people smoking weed like middle schoolers drink monster.
You're going to get a reputation of having druggy parties. Now lets take it a step further, your reputation would precede you if people outside of our apartment complex started coming to your parties.
After that for someone to be a stalker they would have to be waiting outside the apartment building/door for you to come outside, be leaving notes consistently asking when the next party(thread) is, calling you, and generally just being creepy and unpleasant. If you weren't interacting in a public space shared by many it's possible you could have a stalker but you aren't, and you don't.

But when one of your neighbors comes home to see the door open again because you're having another party(thread), they're not stalkers because they decided to gossip amongst themselves they just have eyes and ears and they know what you do and what you're known for.

If you don't want to have a bad reputation with your neighbors, be a better neighbor. Being in denial isn't going to make it go away. It is funny though.
Hopefully you don't have roommates because I would hate to be accused of being a "stalker", or a "creep" for knowing what shows you watch on the tv in the living room.

Empathy, sympathy, and understanding vacate the premises when someone is telling others that they

1. Careless how to spend THEIR money.
2. Have too much of it.

At that point, it's not about discussion, especially when you're known for making a thread like this everytime. Why should people feel bad about buying something they want and they enjoy AND that THEY don't feel is too expensive?

And while focusing on Financials, I would point out that this game or any other is NOT a necessity...so obviously, they can afford it themselves...or can they?

I have no problem with empathy, to a point. endless complaining does not require empathy. in their first thread on this very same topic, much was said along the lines of "you have a point, sorry its expensive in your thinking, here's what you can try to do to offset that" to which they got upset because the company shills were after them and being stalkers. its a common theme.

the simple facts are. any business is in the business of making money. its capitalism plain and simple. most companies with an IP, and SE is no exception, will pump out merchandise for money. no one disagrees with that.

cashgrab dick move or not, none of the items are a requirement to "win" the game.

the OP's issue is the fact they charge at all. unless their opinion has changed in the last year, and I see no sign it has, the fact that SE makes any money off of anything appears to be the problem. and anyone that disagrees with that is, a stalker, shill, loser or whatever other nifty new names they have discovered in the last year.

Compared to what other MMOs/games in general do, FFXIV is extremely fair/tame in their cash shop. It’s unfair to call it predatory.

Moreover OP has a history of being incredibly rude, so rude is what she gets back. You’re not wrong that we should default to being polite, but no one is under any obligation to remain polite when OP is/has always been consistently rude.

When this sale ends in late september, theyll announce what items are part of their next sale. To cherry pick one example, the motorcycle has been on sale at least 3 times so far this year. A single PPV boxing or MMA event can cost around $75. That would be, obviously, on top of your cable or satellite TV subscription. Humanity has been OK with this concept for, I dunno, 40 years or so? I remember my folks getting PPV events in the early '80s when I was a little kid.

Further, cable or satellite TV aren't the only examples of subscriptions to things that offer optional perks. Other examples of this would be phone/tablet voice or data plans, item delivery services, video streaming services, and yes, gaming subscriptions. Every single one of these offers optional paid perks beyond what the basic subscription provides.

Some perks will be cheap ($5 for a video-game aesthetic item) and some will be expensive ($100 for a boxing match)... that's just the way we do things on the third rock.

very good point Frizze.. but thats the reality we all live in, I suspect theirs to be different because likely they are not interested in whatever is up for teh other sale events. Its something particular to this time of year that is on sale that they want but not by enough.

I am with you on the bike, well.. any mount rarely. I have plenty I dont use already, so rarely bite on those

Don't buy cigarette pack or two and you can already afford the bike mount. It's that simple.
I don't like it but it is what it is, be glad that we still get so many different mounts and glamour options in the game. In other games you can only wish for that

I have no interest in purchasing fantasias, level skips, story skips or last year's event items that I already have.

This is the only time when things I want to buy go on sale, but they are still outrageously expensive despite the sale.
