Thinking about Elidibus

I had the same theory as you i even shared my theory with a friend on discord. And i think the WoL Elidibus went after was Azem in that image,the only difference with my theory is that i feel that,that scene with Elidibus reaching out to the Armored WoL takes place thousands upon thousands of years ago,plus i also noticed that the armored figure actually turned around and i think when the armored figure turned around they might have confronted Elidibus and fought him only for the figure to loose and be taken over by Elidibus becoming one with the armored WoL that is possibly Azem from thousands of years ago or something,and later he does the same thing with Ardbert's dead body who was also a shard of Azem so like you said the person he probably cared much about was Azem that he went so far as to become one with his body or something like that,which brings me to another theory that might piss off some people,but i will not say anything about this theory of mine cus i fear i might get clobbered or something cus it might change the lore some players already have about their WoL. I think that flashback from 5.3 is going to get clarified in Pandaemonium, actually.

When we first fight against Eric in P1S, Elidibus uses creation magic to 'summon some illusory allies' to our side, and the spell itself is very different from our usual summoning routine. I expect that at some point, Azem is bound to show up in that same Warrior of Light armor set from the flashback and show off that signature spell for the first time. Elidibus learns spells after observing them, after all.

The bigger question is why G'raha also has knowledge about that signature spell.

Maybe he accquired it sometime in the future from maybe ancient Ascian tomes or something cus the Ascians did have a bunch of books when we traveled to Elpis they seem to have valued books a lot or maybe he gained it from ancient Allagan records.

The spell that Graha uses is different from the spell that Azem used if you remember in 5.3 when we first use it Elidibus specifically calls it a spell of eld one not of hydaelyns make.

I'm still 100% certain that the Elidibus Echo flashback is actually two entirely different scenes from different sides of the sundering.

1. Elidibus studying shortly after being appointed to the seat. This is before the End of Days and before Zodiark; he is a normal person at this stage.

2. Elidibus, post-Sundering, as a primal; he's no longer getting the hero worship that it turns out he was being sustained on, so he lands on possessing a hero of the Sundered, who happens to look exactly like the FFI WoL. Remember that we see an illustration of that figure in a book in exactly that patch; that figure is the singular entity being put forward as 'The Classical Warrior of Light'.

I don't think that figure was Azem at all--and frankly I don't think Azem is ever going to appear in the flesh anyway.

The classical 'Warrior of Light' in that Echo flashback is not a theoretical entity. Elidibus actually reaches out towards the mystery person in the scene with his own arm clad in the oversized white Convocation robes, so it's definitely someone he's recalling from his own past.

Elidibus had originally asked Azem to investigate Pandaemonium with him, but Azem told him to instead wait for the coming of a falling star, because it would draw too much attention for two Convocation members to both be present. There are two possible explanations that I can think of:

• Azem expected our arrival to the past
• Azem had some sort of clever trick planned to go adventuring with their friend, and we've now disrupted it

Either way, it's difficult to explain this plot point without Azem, unless someone like Venat shows up to explain things in the epilogue.

Which signature spell are we talking about? The Exarch's spell for pulling us across the rift? Elidibus learns that from the Exarch's memories in the dropped spirit vessel.

Azem's spell as used at the Seat of Sacrifice is an entirely different sigil – a big array versus seven individual circles.

That scene doesn't need to be literal. It's fragments of memories – he can think about a memory of the original WoL and metaphorically reach for that memory.

I'm still more inclined (in the absence of further clarification) to interpret the original WoL as an early incarnation of the sundered Azem-of-the-First.

Oh, I'm not saying that figure was theoretical. I'm saying that figure was the first person Elidibus possessed to do his whole 'use heroes and heroism to lead people to their demise' thing. It's hard to say if that figure was literally the same guy that was written about in the First's history, but I think it was closer to being that guy than it was to being Azem.

Tbh I really hope Azem doesn't show up, I kinda prefer Azem to be more mysterious.

@Lyth Yeah i think that someone,like you and i said is Azem the person he cared very much about specially when he says "(Sundered)though you may be (you) fought for the world's future,for peace." He says as he reaches to the mysterious armored entity that again i think is Azem and said armored entity thus turned around,and i think when that armored guy turned around both Elidibus and the armored entity fought,with Elidibus being the Victor and thus Elidibus took over the body of the armored entity which again i think is Azem,though not the full complete Azem but a sundered Azem that reeincarnated into the 1st WoL of this FF14 Game "the WoL of Novrandt's oldest epic" that lived thousands upon thousands of years ago who like i said i think is Azem specially because of what Elidibus said "Sundered though you may be." Which again implies that Elidibus knew who armored guy was,he knew it was Azem, cus Ascians/Amourites can tell who's soul belongs to who in this game,anyways this is all just conjecture though.
