so you're saying Uldah is full of active retainers? Blegh. Maybe make the time limit more in proportion with the number of retainers in said ward?

Like say (bad example): 100 retainers - 7 days till reset, 500 - 3 days, and maxed out wards - 1 day.

In any case, meh. I can't wait till 2.0....

o_O wonder if emergency maintenance causes said timer to reset.

Don't bother. I have tried buying retainer spots and no one with a spot worth anything is willing to give them up.

Luckily I finally sneaked a hole in the wall in the Mason's ward so some of my fuggin electrum can sell without we renewing the note every 24/hrs

How about lengthening stand leases to the same duration then? Since they've lost their luster. Stands are often unoccupied because they only last a day.

IMO the real problem with Ul'dah are all the PCs standing around posing with bazaars with copper or for 1m and other totally crass items for sale.

The bazaar system is why Jeuno even now is slowed to a crawl, and Ul'dah is the same. Get rid of it!

Um...no. My retainers still hang around without me having to do a thing.

I know you can leave them in the wards and talk to them now and then and they'll stay, but a few days back I found the retainers of an alternate character still in the wards, and I couldn't even remember how long it had been since I had spoken to them. One of them had nothing up but a stack priced at the maximum limit.

I brought up the issue in linkshell chat and was told something about a retainer being left alone for some duration between two to three weeks and still remaining in the wards.

Searches also seem to attest to this timer not functioning.

Yea... I think the devs should look into whether or not the 7 day limit is working as expected... pretty sure that my retainer is next to the retainer of a buddy who hasn't been on in weeks.

Just make an auction house for all items and allow players to sell items in bazaar if they want just like FFXI has the system works then ppl who cant get into the wards can sell the lil stuff they want and bazaar the higher lvled stuff without tax if they choose. time limits are lame. i have better things to do than worry bout reloading my retainer each week.

He meant that it used to have a time limit, but people keep bitch about that also and they removed it later.

C'mon guys, 3% more tax doesn't hurt.
I find myself can call my retainer in fieldcraft row without problem.

Are you sure you tried to call retainer in every ward before complain?

While that is true...the problem with that is that there are not alot of people looking to buy anything that will search in gridania or Limsa's mercantile house unless it's something that isint in ul'dahs.

i had thought the same thing myself until my crystals and wood and Materia didint sell in a week...got a retainer spot in Ul'dah again...Materia sold in less then 10 minutes.

i figure that eventually this will be the solution when people actually start using them. similar to the party search feature.

They should lower taxes in the other 2 cities (or raise in Ul'dah) to encourage movement or at least searching elsewhere.

Still waiting for retainers to set up a booth outside my mog house...decorate a flashy stand to attract people to visit etc.

I posted elsewhere, but this thread has gotten community rep attention.

Would it be possible to implement a way for the taxes and search fees to benefit the Grand Company? You would think that if the city-state itself were making a profit they would have something to show for it. Maybe offer a discount on seal items during a good week? This would encourage commerce in more places than Ul'dah. I don't know how much burden that would place on the server, but I think it would help.

In any case, I can't expect everyone to have the patience for this, but I try to check Gridania and Limsa Lominsa before I set foot in Ul'dah's Mercantile House. I want to encourage commerce in all 3 cities, partly because I miss having more than one AH in FFXI. When you see cutscenes and story quests related to the trade routes, they don't make sense if all of the items can be found in the same place and delivered at an instant.

PS2 limitations

Apologize if this has been mentioned already, but often when I dispatch my retainer through the merc house it goes happily away, but if I check my retainer list it's not in a ward.

Can we please either:

1. Only have wards with available space listed for dispatch
2. At least get an error that the ward selected is full without backing out of all the menus.

What would be handy is if retainers where places randomly throughout the three city states, for example a player could send their retainer to the Masons ward but not choose an actual city, the server would determine the best place based on retainer population and it would solve the issue of everyone congregating in one spot and clogging up one cities wards in particular.

This retainer ward thing is so bad ; ; I don't know whats the worst part...the server lag or the fact I can't look up an item while selling it. :/

One word.... Broken. I'm sorry dev team, but your commerce system is a complete failure. Starting day one, buying/selling has been an unrelenting chore. I hope you all realize how many people quit the game in the beginning simply based on the poor commerce system. A couple of things that really stand out...

1. The fact that a large number of players are unable to sell their stuff because the Uldah wards are full. I personally have not been able to get a retainer in Uldah over the past three weeks. Furthermore, 90+% of players don't even check the Limsa Lominsa or Gridania Mercantile Houses. Those of us not fortunate enough to have a Uldah retainer are screwed. I personally have a few million left before I'm out of gil. If I'm unable to get a retainer in Uldah before that runs out then I will be forced to quit because the tens of millions worth of materia, gear, materials sitting on my retainer are worthless without buyers.

2. Search results only show the 10 lowest priced of a given item. The most popular materia will have between 30-100 selling at any given time, so the 10 lowest priced will be the lowest quality. This means that we have to resort back to running through the wards checking each retainer if we want to buy a high quality version (ie INT IV +20). Oh and for those of us without retainers in Uldah means we are probably in LL or Grid. Sucks for us!! Because we would have to teleport to Uldah just to see what those higher quality materia cost.

Final question.... What was wrong with FFXI's Auction House?

Doesn't it have blind bidding? Never played XI but if it does, then that's what's wrong with it.

9.99 x 50 = 500 bucks from 50 of us. Now times that by 30 servers thats 15 grand a month they probabley lose. Not much money considering low poor ideas. Maybe it would be worth while to speed this up some before they lose alot of good players that pay each month. >< bout tired of npc my stuff just so i can go out and kill mobs for more loot. Id say your heading in the wrong direction if its going to take 2.0 to fix this issue. Id say alot of players are on D3 now hows there auction house going? I haven't tried it due to be a dedicated player to a game. And can i say wow. How many players are gone now? We are having problems with player population already on raids and stuff and having to shout for 2-3 peoples just to raid now ;/ I'd say the content is heading downhill. Going to try another game i guess til 2.0
