Will We Ever Be Able To Fly Without A Mount

Kupo, I fly every evening but how? Well there are ways kupo..to fly away while going through Eorzea kupo :)

I would like to take this opportunity to shamelessly plug WoW's Druid class (that can shapeshift into a flight form) and how cool it would be to have such a class in FFXIV. Thank you.

I would love wings as a mount, seeing how they already have it animated in the new treasure dungeon, I don't see why we can't have them as a mount.

Ran some treasure dungeons with friends last night and that was the only topic of conversation. “Well now they have to give us wing mounts.”

I could get behind this they have so many wing glams why not?

The same thing that let's us breath under water, and breath on the moon why not let it allow us to sprout wings and fly.

If they do release the wings I hope it’s a drop in the new deep dungeon. Massive Gil earning potential for me.

Use the swim animations as the flying animations.

I would love being able to use the accessory wings as sort of mounts. The area transition in the new treasure dungeon looks pretty cool.

Well it's not IMpossible, we've been shown automatically flying with magic wings and just straight up magic. I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to count those as mounts.

We already fly in the story without mounts or wings. So it's possible

So it isn't actually that wild for the PC to just learn to fly in the same way we sorta just got the ability to breath under water.

The bigger issue is genre, which in a lot of ways trumps lore and theme. It doesn't really matter if something is hypothetically possible if it doesn't fit the genre, and in fantasy its sorta weird for your characters to fly around like superheroes unaided, compared to riding a mount or a broom or whatever.

Its the same reason that Star Wars didn't devolve into different sides using Von Neuman Probes to murder each other and convert entire star systems into mega-structure factories: sure the fact automated droid production combined with the fact that droids themselves could be technicians and producers and spaceships makes this a logical inevitability, but then you are less talking Lucas and more talking speculative hard scifi and moved into a different genre entirely.

It's fantasy, which means it can literally be whatever you want. The flying mount thing is from everyone cloning WoW. There is literally no reason the game can't do it if they want to. Asthetics are whatever the choices the devs make after all.

WoW didn’t invent flying mounts and vehicles in Fantasy video games. Final Fantasy was doing it from the start with the airship in Final Fantasy on the NES.

In the context of mmos, I think the first player-flight mechanic was City of Heroes. At least that's what is often cited as the "day the mmo world died". Still waiting on that death certificate, though.

Oh god, I miss that game so much. I hear it's being run here and there on private servers still. I just don't know why that game got canned. From my understanding it was quite popular and filled a niche that had few other competitors. A newer version would probably be quite a hit.

The only way i see them ever trying this is in a special zone type like eureka / bozja instanciated "side" story or content that does not impact the rest of eorzea.

Let's say a new special side content farming zone ala eureka/Bozja in the shattered remains of the mothercrystal forming floating cities being a special "zone" as an aether-heavenly type place, in it's own regard, and one another zone like this could be moon shattered partly by ultima thule / dynamis' will's impact / Darkness themed Zodiark zone with more of a darkness / demonic feel to it.

I like that idea of having accessories that act like mounts, like wings, particles effect that would imply that the character is using magic to fly around, stuff like that

Landing poses? Hero pose? xD

I want to see my Lalafell flap flap to the sky.

I can picture myself flying like Pixies, please Mr. Yoshida and Dev Team, turn the Pixie Wings accessory into a mount and let us fly just like the fairies in Il Mheg, literally.



Being able to use normal emotes and special mount-exclusive ones would take it to another level of greatness, by normal emotes I mean everything we can do while standing like /pose and by special emotes I mean something like the Silencing Cant that comes with the Witch's Broom, one of my favorite mounts ever.
