I've also kept quite a stance away from the typical weeby-looking games including FF, until I got a beta-invite to FFXIV.
After all, I was quite unfamiliar with those games. When put in comparison to something like Warcraft, JRPGs often appeared heavily sexualized, way too warm while they'd be in more realistic environment annihalated to oblivion, and to some point appear too childish as if the pixies' finished dream world (forgot the name again) was the norm. It also doesn't help if your friends or in Asmon's case his chat keeps promoting it to the point it becomes very annoying.
The constant promotion of "FFXIV free trial with award-winning expansion Heavensward" - or whatever the meme's wording is - can distance one further from the game.

Asmongold watched Endwalker trailer and said "the music sucks". This guy deserves nothing but indifference from me.

The music was too "anime" or something along those lines (whatever the heck that means lol), but that was pretty much him trash talking what he could about the game while clearly showing some interest. A man in denial, more or less. Considering I was in denial for a long time regarding WoW, I know exactly what it looks like. For me, that trailer has bits and pieces of all of my musical tastes. FF XIV's content might not always be amazing, but the music quality has never suffered.

Basically too pop/rock instead of orchestral arrangement, like pretty much every AMV. Watch any WoW expansion cinematic and you'd find the difference in presentation between western and eastern media is quite different.

He hasn't even streamed yet, why would they count?

He's still a WoW streamer, and tbh now is a bad time for him to try FFXIV with TBC just out and the first ShL patch finally coming. Definitely think it's good that the campaign is aimed at long time streamers who, let's be honest, are giving a lot of free advertising for FFXIV.

If Asmon wants to give the game a shot, fine, but going from a place where you're treated like a king is going to be pretty hard for him. I don't think players who are wary of him should be though- chances are he'll be gone before he even reaches Shadowbringers.

Besides, he's going to flip out when he loses every FFXIV mount off.

I kind of feel like people are good at adapting to their current situation.

The stuff that's generally acceptable/encouraged in WoW is very different from what's in FFXIV, and most people prefer to fit in.

That said- if they come over with their community, they probably will just retain what they already built, but I do think that a lot of the worst members of his community think FFXIV is a weeb game so they'll at best last a few levels before just giving up on it.

Another thing is- the worst of his community, the snipers, won't be able to stream snipe and wpvp harass him in FFXIV, so I kinda feel like the worst of them won't bother following him here.

I saw this and laughed. Blizzard wished they were sitting at 22 mil subs. Maybe back in classic wow, BC, and wrath. And that is maybe. But Blizzard is lucky to even be at half of that now. They are just too shitty at what they do now and how they treat their player base is down right pitiful. I understand your loyalty to WoW. It is admirable. But 22 mil subs is over stretching it a lot at this moment.

So far in every thread including this one the only thing I've seen is unilateral toxicity FROM the FFXIV players and not the other way around. I've seen a couple streams from Asmongold and both him and his followers gave me a "dudes having a night out googling random things for shits and giggles" vibe that is entirely satirical and seems to fly over most of the people here that lack any sense of humor.

Seriously, if you don't like him, ignore him. No need to go on a twitter crusade to get him to stop playing.

Weird, I must have missed the part where I was defending WoW or saying that it had 22 million subs. Might be because I didn't do either of these things. I also have no reason to do so since I quit the game out of disgust. I was simply pointing out that THIS game didn't have that many, and I made no mention of WoW's numbers. Not like I could anyway. Blizzard doesn't release that information anymore. The 22 million being touted by the poster I was responding to is created accounts (spanning the entire life span of the game so far), not active players, which are 2 completely different things. That is what I was pointing out.

I feel kinda sorry for when this "Asmon" does stream ff14 as I can see it being difficult for him to do literally anything ingame due to a herd of players following him to the point where passby'ers will think it's a community event or something (which I admittedly did) and get swept up in. I mean if you saw this amount of people at one location wouldn't you think it's a event as well?

Personally I don't have much to any opinion on streamers since all I want to do is play the game but even I know that it's going to be hard for someone as popular as 'asmon' to play the game at all, especially after seeing the 'test' of what it'll be like with 'rich' that I kinda feel sorry for after witnessing it first hand on what it'll be like ingame.

either way, I think people should just start sending out the word to leave them alone like they did with Jesse Cox as it seemed to have toned down the issues I addressed here with them. then again though their communities are different so it might not work. that's enough outta me though, i'm going back to gaming

Mpk is definitely stirring the pot, but that keeps things from getting stagnant. I especially like some of his moonlogic leaps — no, I like the responses to his moonlogic more than anything else.

Personally, frequent f bombs aren't an issue for me. But I understand how it could be off putting. There is also a time and place for this. And yeah, I don't think he's the most likeable guy either. Never really has been. Even so, he has matured a lot since his earlier days. Sadly, his following has not caught up with the times. They are a bigger issue than the man himself.

Depends a little on how they're counted. It could be that some players only get put on one of the pools so some combining could probably be done, but definitely not just simply slapping them together. It's a 3rd party site doing some arcane magic and pulling numbers out of that after all:

Yeah, I saw that stream and was shocked with the level of obnoxious stalking... they were even spaming spells around him. The thing that sucks is you can disable the effects, but you'll still hear the sounds. It must be awful to play the game like that. I think that more than anything this might be what makes Asmon dislike his time in FFXIV.

Now I can't get the image of MPK on a stepladder, stirring a giant pot out of my head.

I honestly couldn't care less who he is. I do not despise him whatsoever though.

I've always disliked the hive mind mentality surrounding these popular personalities. People need to work on their own personality and stop worshipping him like a cult, it's probably embarassing to him.
