'America', singular, often refers to the USA... United States of AMERICA.
'Americas', plural, often refers to the two connected continents... North AMERICA and South AMERICA.

I often say NA to include everyone in North America, but that's mostly in part due to my own experience. I have yet to meet a player from South America, but I have had tons of friends from Canada. So... NA works for me.

As far as "Oh, we're the test dummies!" You guys will find any way to make us the people who lose out. Yeah, the servers are going to be a little unstable for the next few hours... but a few hours ago, people were complaining that they couldn't have more time to experience the new stuff before they go to bed. Well at least the hotfixes will all come out soon, and we can forget about this.

Just FYI, it irritates the hell out of us (Latin America, but I'd hope generally anyone in America that is not in the US) when people refer to the US as America, regardless how widespread the usage of it is.
