I remember playing beta and 18 months later still playing beta.
Back in my days:
-Getting 500skill per raptor was incredible.
-When you would go try fight 20levels more high than you.
-Everyenemy and his mother could range attack you from the other part of map.
-When there was a Gobbue, Boar and a Peiste almost in the exit of each city only to say hello and beat you down.
-When arriving to Mor Dhona was actually challenging.
-When craft was not only smashing 1 button.
-Mages had more than 2 spells.
-All ARC would use level 1 arrows.
-When you crafted arrows and the result was 3 arrows.
-When staring at a bar fill up (stamina) was all you could do.
-Mages could hit from far and had weapon skills capables to make a Great Buffalo falls on his kneels.
-When THM was a tank.
-Leves could make you gain 50k skill and 100k gil.
-When you were level 1 fisher and you could never, not even in leve, hook up a fish unless you were da.. lucky.
-When running to gridania from uldah due no animas was a pain in the ass.
-Mages could wear heavy plated gear because of defense.
-Finding someone with one craft at 50 was actually amazing.
-Every DD was using a tricorne and feel cool.
-When retainers reset every mainte or crash of the zone-server.
-When more than 50 people could wait on a zone for the weather change for claim a NM.
-You had yoru inventory filled by NQ +1 +2 +3 of everything.
-You didn't care about server lag.
-You needed thousand materials for only repair your gear.
BUff... i better stop...
Back in my day THM was everything... tank, healer, doter, nuker, etc
And 15-man eft parties..... @_@
back in my day there was one resolution setting and it was only windowed mode. and we liked it.
Back in my day, you zoned the server. lol@empty zones outside Limsa in alpha 'cause the zone server crashed repeatedly.
More (as i craft):
-Tanaka ruled this game.
-ARC was god and MRD the oldloldrk of FFXI.
-You found a cave and go in to explore.
-The first time you take the ship to Limsa was an enjoying experience.
-Clases meant nothing and you only wanted to fill up the party and go get skill.
-The first time you saw that yellow bar which meaning you didn't know, become red.
-Crabs had a second attack (water gunnnnnnnnnnnnnn).
-Skeleton were the worst thing you could face on a leve.
-Gridania and Limsa was full of people.
-Sometimes Aetheryte crystal and enemys won't load after maintenances.
-Seasonal events were only touch a bell.
In my day, it was close to impossible for CNJ to gain any SP when in a party. Soooo frustrating.
In my day doing a day's leves took anywhere from six to eight hours.
I remember when we couldn't remove AWALL linkshell members when they were offline or too far away.
I remember deliberately failing certain leves to ensure better exps every other day...
Back in my day.... Oh wait we still get discount...http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...ictoryMeme.png
Back in my day, I had to bring 3-4 versions of the same weapon to a sp party.
Back in my day we could switch between AoE and single target with all spells.
Back in my day heal was always mass heal ^^
LOL! I was waiting for an "uphill bother ways" & "get off my lawn" one (^_^)b
This thread is fun!
Back in my day...
-There were food items but we didn't know what to do with them.
-People still liked exploring just for the fun of it.
-There were no floating ! to mark who you needed to talk to next for a quest.
-After opening cut scene, you had to wait for the NPC to load because there were masses of people all standing around, confused & unsure how to put their weapon away. ;p
Oh and... back in my day it was still FREE! =p
Bells, bells bells! Ring those bells and get yourself a gift! Dream tunic materials, chocolate, candy!
Good ol' seasonal events. >:)
Back in my day, when everyone used to cry in forums about how bad the game was, i was probably one of the few people who enjoyed the game and loved to see how Yoshi improved it with every patch.
BACK in my day. there was only LL, the mobs acted like they were curious would look at you let you pass go away then come back and spit at you, then you died lol. BR could decimate an enemy very quickly.
Back in my day...we were all hyped about FFXIV that many of us jumped ship on XI...and people left just as fast as they joined...it's better now though :D
Back in my day, I spent 2 hours every trip to the Wards to not find anything I want.
Back in my day Marmots were very small.
Back in my day I remember when players en masse were asking who Yoshi-P is, saying that he was inexperienced, and there were signs of growing picket lines and discontent.
Now he is commonly referred to as our Saviour ;p
Back in my day the servers were only turned on for two or three sessions of a few hours each week.
Back in my day EU(and separately EN/FR/DE)/NA/JP had different forums and 90% of your FFXIV time was spent on said forums contributing to ridiculous threads about biscuits.
Back in my day, I was able to accurately map out the locations of the entire EU playerbase with Google. :D
Back in my day, experimenting with different quantities and types of ingredients was the only way to craft new items.
Back in my day, your forum avatar was whatever you linked to.
Back in my day, if you actually made it through the gateway from Limsa onto La Noscea without crashing, timing out or sending the whole server offline, it was cause for celebration.
Battle Regimen Eft Parties
Back in my day, i got an Ebony Log.
Back in my day, it was 120k for one NPC repair to 75%.
Back in my day, Nawana Mines 15-man Behest and Leve-Linking was the shiz.
Back in my day we used to make tons of money just by doing leves
Back in my day they were called "horsebirds".
Back in my day I fished in Grade 10 the same way I fished in Grade 1!
I remember when killing a mob stronger than you didn't guarantee you any XP at all. We had physical levels, leves was the only real way to level up. And anywhere you wanted to go, you went on FOOT!
Back in my day, killing Aldgoats & Dodos outside of Limsa was considered the rite of passage.
Edit: also back in my day, you had to deal with dying to a peiste outside of Ul'dah.
Back in my day, I really wanted to play this game, only to find out that I haven't subscribed to any IPs. :p
And now that I can, I enjoyed it! :D
Back when I started out, people could wear whatever they wanted without their pants flying off when they touched a radical, and weren't inexplicably repelled by shinier things.
We hitched on people and creatures a little before we passed through them, and they actually felt a tiny bit more real, and less like ghosts.
The creatures were such a size you could believe they were animals might really be able to exist, and it felt like for all that was so horribly wrong, you could console yourself in how they at least tried so hard to remember the little things helped you believe in the world they were giving you.
Still, we have so, so much fun now, don't we? But back then.. I didn't have to work quite so hard to forget this was all just some silly little game.
Back in my day lvl 20 cactars did 1k needles when you didn't have 1k hp.
