It's a pretty unusual problem. I'm inclined to say it's due to the free login campaign and extra server load.
Couple of reasons for that.
1: Firstly is the event viewer, which appears to be pointing to a network issue, however, after diagnostic and trying things out with several game with no issues. Moreover, using an emulator using the dx11 backend and doing some retro stuff. Hardware issues plainly just haven't emerged. and that's even using upscaled graphics etc. I use those to sort of check for if hardware is on the blink. Since usually you'll get error codes straight off the bat. That didn't happen using dx9 or dx11. So that pretty much rules out a hardware problem on my end. Web connection is very stable and there hasn't been any indication of faults.
Gamepad input is fine, graphic drivers are upto date with the current version too.
2: It's that when zoning or logging in only in certain areas, there was errors. More commonly on the dx11 backend I might add. However less common using dx9. Oddly, everything else is fine when in instance. Which doesn't make much sense, but anyway. But that's how the problem manifests itself in my own case. My hotbars messed up a couple of times and didn't load properly. The HUD was acting irregularly too, for instance a queue popped. and although i could move the cursor, because the sound was playing as it should, which means that device communication was working fine. The GUI elements were loaded incorrectly and were not visible. That was using dx9 and only happened once. However. it was becoming problematic in Gangos.
That points to a server side issue and probably needs to be looked into on SE's side. Seems to be that the server is having trouble with increased traffic.
I'm gonna wait until after the free campaign has expired. If it ceases to be a problem past this time. Then it probably means it's the nail on the head. It's the only thing that makes sense. Shame, but that's how it goes.
I have tried almost all the solutions and no go. I can verify that the problem happens during, or shortly after, teleporting. Rarely does a DX11 problem happen once I am safely in a zone for five minutes.
No other program has crashed. Therefore, this appears to be a strictly FFXIV issue. When the game runs, I can run high graphics at 60 FPS with no problem. But, a teleport can suddenly kill the game.
It is time for Square Enix to step up and redo its programming.
ASUS ROG Crossfire VI motherboard
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU
64gb Corsair Vengeance RAM
Dual ASUS Radeon RX580 OC cards in Crossfire configuration
LG 32 inch gaming monitor with secondary BenQ monitor
400MB cable connection
Everyone.. I know this dx11 can probably be caused by couple things but my friend recently had this and this is how it was fixed.
He had an Asus motherboard, I told him to check bios to disable xmp. In Asus motherboards this was under ai overclock, and it's labelled as "DOCP"
Change that to auto, which will disable it.
We also had him reinstall DirectX runtime.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/down...ion.aspx?id=35
I am not sure exactly which one fixed it for him. Before that we tried underclocking GPU, reinstall game, reinstall GPU drivers after using DDU and it didn't work.
So definitely if you have a motherboard that automatically tries to overclock memory or CPU, disable those features and then give it a try. To most motherboards it's XMP to Asus motherboard is DOCP
Still same here
Today when I have been trying to complete the "Below the Sea" quest my game has continued crashing. I can log into and talk to people on any other map but when I try to talk to Alisae to continue my MSQ I keep getting the same crash message.
ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 13A548D
ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 6213C
ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 607C3

ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 12F7045
ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 46441C
ffxiv_dx11.exe+ 194E82
Going ahead and adding a "me too" to this thread.
Sometimes I get a DX11 crash, sometimes the game just up and vanishes, no crash message at all.
Nothing like waiting 25 min in a 30 min queue to have the game crash on you.
Just chiming in as I am having the same issues. Whenever I go into the Doman Enclave, i get the ffxiv_dx11.exe errors. If I go through a treasure portal, I get a crash to desktop without any error.
Shifting to DirectX 9 mode seems to work for now, and lets me get the characters out of the broken areas, but I havent done any extensive testing with the possibility that crashes too, yet.
I am having an issue doing the same thing. Have you found a fix for it?
I am having an issue doing the same thing. Have you found a fix for it?
Unfortunately not. The best I could do was reduce my graphic quality to standard and that would reduce the likelihood of a dx11 crash, but they will still happen. As many others have said, the likelihood of a dx11 crash happening increases when teleporting and zoning in.
My dx11 errors are still as prevalent as before, and it's still getting worse. Still I cannot be in Bozja Southern Front for more than a few minutes without errors, still I cannot go into the North Shroud without switching to Windowed mode, but now I even sometimes crash right in Gridania, or in front of my FCs house in Shirogane, and also in Eureka Pyros. Oddly enough, I never had a crash during a dungeon or a raid, it's always the "open world". The game is still playable, but not being able to do everything, especially Bozja, is increasingly grinding my gears. I have almost run out of Lost Actions do do Delubrum Reginae with and I don't want to be forced to buy more because the game won't let me farm them myself :(
I am receiving this exact same message every time I try to load into the Firmament, I play this game primarily for the crafting aspect - yet I can't even access current content without the game booting me. This is a recent issue - I have played since ARR on PS4 and recently switched to PC. This past week is the first time this error has happened to me and it happens with regular frequency. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game, updated graphics drivers, etc. but these have not fixed the game in any way. My PC is specifically specced for gaming. I can run Cyberpunk 2077 with no DC or error messages but teleport to Limsa and this game boots me.........(i'd prefer to be on FFXIV over the other games, but i'd also prefer it works)
KK, so this absolutely and utterly isn't just me. Nor is it just some random thing that's came out of nowhere.
Please Devs.
Can you please get something done about this? It's not just a coincidence or is it something that players are doing.
This is something which is to do with
A:) the last update.
B:) A problem with support of machines with AMD/Nvidia hardware. And it's seemingly widespread with this game at this point in time.
The error codes are identical. This isn't my own personal example. But I am getting exactly the same errors completely verbatim. So are many others.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ing_like_this/
Please see that as another example. Something is wrong and it isn't us.
Every other game works perfectly. There are no random lags, no DX errors, we are fully updated. We ran Ccleaner. We rand sfc/ scannow. We reinstalled.
We've tried literally everything at this point. This is just getting irritating!
I'm using a fresh SSD. Fresh windows 10. There's nothing running in background when this happens, the web connection is fine, you name it. I've unplugged hardware, even down to everything else apart from a gamepad and swapping SATA slots for my HDD.
Event viewer has no signs of power loss or device communication errors. Drivers are fine, software is fine. So this is under no circumstance a problem in my computer.
For that reason, i deduce personally that it is localized to changed made with the Hotfix for 5.45. Something isn't working right. This is something you guys need to sort out, please. If you would. respond in kind and look into this bug.
It's not right that so many are speaking about the same bug happening and nothing is being done about it. We pay for this game. That means we have grounds to prompt customer service to make a move.
I understand if times are busy, I acknowledge that, but frankly, I'm not impressed with how this is being palmed off on players for their hardware and that's why I will make some noise about it. It's really not a favorite past time and I find this inconvenient to speak up on other's behalf.
At this point it's 3 words :
SORT IT OUT!!!
hi OP, if i can just throw a suggestion your way, have you looked at where your monitor cable is plugged into? is it possible that you have plugged the monitor into the motherboard graphics port instead of your AMD radeon graphics port? i only ask because you said you have bought a new computer. goodluck.
Gonna have to dispel that one.
I have exactly the same problem and have run diagnostics on my hardware. There are no problems.
Old-ish machine, but really well maintained. I use a dual display set up. I had thought it was a problem with the graphic unit becoming unseated. But nope, that isn't so. Nor does the game have problems when on the odd occasion a single display becomes unpluged. So that couldn't be right. Because I/O faults result in a BSOD.
Since that isn't happening, even if you unplug a display. It probably means that the game is detecting subtle changes without any failures on that front, and that it's checks are working as intended. Same when unplugging a control pad and reconnecting it.
So that iron's out USB faults.
There's most certainly either a server issue or a fault following the last update. Wasn't happening before the hotfix at all.
Can confirm this is not a one off incident. I have just got my new computer (RTX 3070) and installed the game, ran fine for a couple of hours and then got a fatal DirectX error and crashed the whole computer.
I have just been through all the recommendations by the mods on this thread, also gone through some trouble shooting via the official DirectX pages regarding repairing etc and now the issue is even worse, I now crash on pressing play. Currently the game is unplayable.
I have been having the same issue over the last few weeks. I have been dealing with it up until tonight when I reached the first trial of Shadowbringers. I can not make it through an entire attempt without the direct x crash and it takes me well over a minute or more to log back in because of a queue. This means that making the DPS check is that much harder and we end up wiping and having to start over. This forces me to leave the group because I don't want to force others to try over and over until I get lucky and don't crash. I tried three times and I crashed three times. So at this point I am now stuck with 72 days of game time and I can not progress the story.
I have tried all "solutions" that I could find and none of them work. I was excited for Endwalker and wanted to get caught up on the story while I had some downtime. However, if this is the kind of service that we can expect then there is 0% chance I will come back. I shouldn't be forced to play on a console just because the PC version is broken.
Having experienced my 3rd crash already in a 2 hour period, ?I have to wonder, is anyone even looking at this? There hasn't been a response of any kind since the 10th of February. This is ruining the game experience for a lot of players and at least a "We're aware and working on it" response would be welcome. The silence is infuriating.
I 2nd the desire to hear a "We know what's going on and are addressing it" from Devs.
Today is first time loading game back up since I posted on the 9th - and since I still need to enter the firmament, attempted to do so. Today is 4 days from last fatal error crash and my pc has had a software update since last login to FFXIV, I was booted with the exact same error code cited above literally moments after logging in... Until this is addressed I can't play this game, and I don't think we as users should have to pay for a game that you only have partial access to.
Obviously it's not us the users, it looks painstakingly server side.
Just wondering.. If you guys that have tried everything, tried to disable windows game mode:
https://www.techradar.com/news/windo...ng-performance
I'll try this when i re-sub next week. Probably worth a shot. I'll letcha know on that front, cheers man.
Much agree, In all the time I've actually played this game, there's never been any problems of this sort. I'm thinking neither did many others. As another player mentioned just before it's unlikely to be hardware related. There's no way that using a powerful card like an RTX 3070 is going to cause problems with this game. I can could run it on a lesser build than i currently have and there was no problem.
I'm also in agreement that it's a bit shady for the devs to be dismissing the player base that are experiencing problems. A live service model should have a lot more support. I wouldn't have so much of a problem with this happening if i didn't actually pay to play a game in which that i have paid for.
It's not something I find to be pleasant. And that so many others are landing on the same thread and reporting exactly the same problem with little to no support is verging on being really quite irritating.
The customer support needs to be brought inline with the consumers.
It's absolutely not some random issue and it's not that somebody is playing football with their PC (or using it as a football).
All indications appear to be pointing to a communication issue within the FFXIV client app. If there's a problem, that's definitely where it is. I'm probably correct to assume that in high population areas in the game, this is where most who are experiencing this issue are seeing it happen.
When actually in an instance, the game is typically more stable and even though there are the occasional lags (which also wasn't a problem before), such as what happened in my case when doing roulettes the day. It was fine until mid-instance and then all sorts of lag started happening, rendering it unplayable. It's like the server is getting clogged up or something, other games are running perfectly, online or otherwise. I had to restart the app and it was fine for the rest of that time. However, that it's became more frequent suggests that something is wrong with the server or some kinda code got wrecked.
There's no telling at this point in time because we aren't even getting any sort of confirmation that it is a known issue and is being worked on. There should be attention to that, because it's very much a disincentive to subscribe. After all, who wants to pay the plumber for a busted pipe?
I'll take a gamble on a sub next week and see if that other guy's suggestion of disabling game mode does anything. But it really should not be a gamble for a live service. Simply put, when you pay for access to something, it should be working and it's as simple as that.
I'm really just not going to mince my words in that regard, This is really a bad example for any game company to be setting.
Have you ever received an acknowledgement or resolution from SqE?!?!?
I've noticed that it appears the errors get worse / more frequent during peak times. I can go an entire afternoon infrequent or sometimes no crashes, but as soon as evening hits I can get them back to back within minutes.
Has anyone else made the same observation?
Up to now, I had only experienced this on DirectX11 mode while zoning specifically into The Doman Enclave. But now, I get the same error even on DX9 (which appeared to resolve the Doman Enclave issue) when trying to zone into Rabanastre. Since ive not done that before, it effectively locks me out of the content entirely... and now because neither mode can let me load in, I appear to be locked out of my character, too.

Nope that's not it.
As stated before, this issue keeps happening even after every suggestion made both in this thread and other options I've found online. The only thing that seems to partially postpone the issue (ie. crashes still happen but not as frequent) is playing in Standard (Desktop) instead of Maximum for which my PC is specced for. Since I have a few weeks off next week I'mma start from Standard (Desktop) and gradually turn each option up and see if I can find whichever is the one that causes the increase in frequency of crashes....
but it really shouldn't be something that I should be devoting that much time and effort in when we have Tech Support for a pay to play game. Really dissapointed and dissatisfied on that front.
I recommend you reverse the changes recommended by the mods here. If you check page 1-2 when I tried their recommendations the issue got a lot worse for me and went back to normal (ie. crashes every 2 hours which is a hell of a stretch for the word "normal") when I reversed them.
It's completely worth mentioning that I play on PC AND PS4, i bought my PC specifically for games like this to enjoy them with a smoother system and higher resolution. This error dx11 has only affected my PC, I am able to play uninterrupted if I play on PS4 but do experience a slight lag behind PC users, so it's not the perfect solution. I will likely have to just cope with the lag until a fix happens on PC as I main a healer, and nothing says "boot me from the party" quite like DCing mid boss as the only healer in a dungeon...
I just hope this is addressed and fixed soon as switching to a different platform is an outrageous expectation for those of you who don't have the ability to do so.
You misunderstood.. Game mode is a Windows feature. Search it in the Windows task bar and disable it. It's known to cause a lot of crashes for people
I hate to disappoint you, but I have done the very same thing as you are pondering over attempting a while ago and I can say that at least for me, this did not change anything regarding crashes.
I happened to find the solution for a strange graphics error I had however that turned out to be unrelated, I had a terribly blurry screen in the North Shroud and parts of other Shroud areas, which was due to the grass quality acting up or something, the grass blades just glitched out and turned the whole area into a camouflage greenscreen pattern, it was horrible! I had to turn that off completely.
Anyway, every option I tried to increase or decrease yielded only changes towards the graphic quality itself, the frequency of crashes was not affected in any way I could notice, which, I too will admit, I find to be very much odd since as you yourself have stated and I can confirm, switching from High or Maximum to Standard (Desktop) definitely increases the time before the next crash.
If you come to a different outcome however, please let us know! Maybe I forgot something.
Posting here because I also have the same issue, and everything I've tried on multiple forums don't seem to work.
Things I've tried:
- Clean update of graphics card drivers (Uninstall with DDU before re-installing)
- Updating chipset drivers to latest
- Unlocking my frame rates
- Setting graphical settings to highest/lowest
- Turning off various overlays (GeForce Experience, Discord)
- Disabling Microsoft Game Mode
- Disabling DOCP/XMP via BIOS
The only thing that seems to work for me (once) was reinstalling the game. FFXIV won't crash during that first launch after reinstalling. It's really disheartening to find that your subscription has gone to waste because you can't play.
We really should contact Yoshi-P about the problem. Maybe he'll listen.
I keep crashing too :(
I tried to teleport to Bloodshore, and the game crashed. Knowing we all are having this issue is bad, but it locked my character into the bloodshore area with the crash and I can no longer even LOG IN.....
I seem to be having this issue as well. I thought it started due to having Outriders directx12 and their 11. but this thread is older than that. It crashes for me just after i spawn in from character selection. Well if it's not sorted soon I'll go with plan B- you can't be Bothered to fix it i can't be Bothered to give you money. :p
