I’m ruling out Paladin, Bard, White Mage, and Black Mage- technically they have already gotten representation via Ardbert’s gang. While that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen, it just seems less likely to me. Also, I read someone say on the lore forum that will most likely NOT be going to Garlemald as confirmed by the developers- that we should be thinking more along the lines of Heavensward. So I’ll rule out Gunbreaker, Paladin, and maybe Machinist if that were the case. The big ones staring at me in the face are Scholar/Summoner as well as the high possibility of the unconfirmed Beastmaster.
Assuming this is the last time primals come into play, it's going to be SMN. This is its last real chance to shine here, and having a trailer with another primal having to fight a Bahamut/Phoenix/Alexander Egi would make for a really cool trailer.
SMN for sure !
You are all forgetting that there's a possibility for him to be one of the new added Jobs as well...
But if it's Garlemald centered, I'd bet my coins on Machinist.
Derplander has already been 2 times Tanks and 4 times DPS, all being physical fighter jobs.
The next time, healer should be represented (as someone mentioned as a link for tempered people cured).
Yoshida knows healers are waiting for a new 4th healer job.
If it's Medic, then it could very be kinda a mix between physical and magical (like DRK).
I think, it would be a great move from SE to give us the 1st annoucement cinematic with Derplander in Medic job.
From the way this thread is going, it seems like it’s either PLD or SCH/SMN from a lore perspective coupled with the heavy references to FFIV. I’d be happy with either one but I will say that imagining Derplander as PLD in a cinematic makes me excited. Shadowbringers’ cinematic compared to Stormblood did not really focus on Derplander’s job representation aside from being the Warrior of Darkness. I get more excited for the announcement in February as each day goes by.
I imagine it may be RDM since it is about balancing light and dark, a great place to go after ShB, also it has some physical attacks so they can still have their melee flare in the cinematic cutscene. Alternatively it could be Gunbreaker since it seams all but confirmed we are going to Islabard, but that would be another Tank. SMN could also be a potential candidate since it has a lot of connections to the MQS as well as other important events, they can also briefly use parts of Bahamut's and Phoenix's power. Finally this last one is wishful thinking from a healer main but I imagine the main Hub city will be Sharlyan, even if all the exploration zones will most likely be Islabard so maybe we can get AST as the main expansion class, there is also some connection of the constellations and the revelations made in ShB.
Assuming that the 6.0 expansion will be Final Fantasy IV themed similar to the way Shadowbringers was Final Fantasy III themed then I can imagine the cinematic playing the main theme of Final Fantasy IV while showing the Warrior of Darkness transform from a Dark Knight into a Paladin as he reprises his role as Eorzea's Warrior of Light.
But also assuming that the expansion takes place in Sharlayan then it makes sense for him to be a Scholar and/or Summoner. It's also interesting to note that, aside from Dark Knight which is from Ishgard, the featured job is often a job that originates from the featured region: Dragoon is from Ishgard, Monk is from Ala Mhigo, Samurai is from Hingashi. Summoner originates from The Allagan Empire and Scholar originates from Nym whereas Astrologian originates from Sharlayan itself. However, the Meteor Survivor have always taken the form of a Disciple of War and hasn't taken the form of a Disciple of Magic yet. Maybe it will change this time.
In short, here are my candidates:
PLD: If the expansion is Final Fantasy IV themed. We might even see a transformation from DRK to PLD.
SMN: If the story is primal themed. Can also seamlessly share the spotlight with Scholar.
SCH: If the setting takes place in Sharlayan which is a nation of Scholars. Can also seamlessly share the spotlight with Summoner.
AST: If the setting takes place in Sharlayan where Astrologian is the only job that originates from there.
It will be PLD. Anything else is just wishful thinking. They will not pass up the hard on the nose reference to FFIV in having the WoL switch from DRK to PLD as a show of washing away the dark past for a bright future.
I have yet to play Patch 5.4 since I'm saving the MSQ for a later time, but I'm actually pretty curious about how much of the story points to 6.0 being Final Fantasy IV themed. I've had a hunch that 6.0 could be Final Fantasy IV themed if we are ever going to the moon and since Shadowbringers had Final Fantasy III main theme all over it then I was thinking that they might do the same for 6.0 with but with Final Fantasy IV main theme. Also seems cinematically perfect for the Warrior of Darkness to transform from a Dark Knight to a Paladin in his return to becoming the Warrior of Light again.
But man, it would be pretty damn cool if we get the Tower of Babil and/or the Lunar Subterrane as the Alliance Raid and integrated to the lore similar to how the Crystal Tower was. As far as I know though, 6.0 being Final Fantasy IV themed the way 5.0 was Final Fantasy III themed is just a dream of mine.
I guessed DRK last time, but the story didn't pan out as I predicted but hey, got it right.
With 5.4 done, there are some side quests involving the thirteenth and I get the impression that we MIGHT be dealing with overarching darkness on a calamitic scale, and the world crying out for a "hero".
So... all points are looking at Paladin right now.
My reason is that we're supposedly near the climax of the whole Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc and since it's mostly high fantasy stuff Paladin makes the most sense. Also considering the reputation the WOL has built for themselves, we're seen as the hero of heroes. Something akin to Paladins. Also, there is a good chance we might end up on the moon. Lots of IV throwbacks for sure.
Though they could throw us for a loop and do a "what was old is new again" and just have them be a Warrior again, just in new artifact armor.
It could be one of three
Pld for reasons said already
Warrior, for bookends of season 1 of ARR
or one of the new job(s) if there is any
I'm gonna come out of left field and say since he hasn't been a caster yet, SMN.
As I've said before, this is the likely answer to me. Assuming we'll be dealing with less "end of the world" threats, that makes this probably the best time for SMN to become the face of the WoL. Besides, we all know we want a trailer of multiple Egis beating down monsters before Bahamut/Phoenix/Alexander (I wish) Egis are summoned to cause more destruction.
One aspect to consider in light of a theoretical Summoner/Scholar is that the Nymians will be cured of the Rancor as of this next story arc as goes with the cure to tempering. I’ve been thinking that what if this next story arc actually does revolve around Mages? More specifically delving into the War of the Magi. I have very low expectations for going to Garlemald quite yet. There’s gotta be something else on the horizon.
I mean we could be wrong in speculating Garlemald. It seemed like we were ramping up to war with the in 5.0 but then got the curveball that was Norvrandt.
But there is a lot going on imperial related. The MSQ is setting off civil war in the empire, the Trial storyline and Bozja storylines are dealing with the empire and different provinces, it would be really weird to have all this going on but then not go there again IMO. Especially since there's only one more patch of msq (two if you want to count them splitting the msq between .5 and .55) to bridge us to another expansion and it may be frustrating and forced if they have all this build up with the empire only to shove us into yet another curveball expansion at the last minute again.
Idk, I'd take just about any incarnation over what we have now. If the summons actually looked like summons I'd be cool with it. Limited time Bahamut and Phoenix are nice, but the egi system needs to go, at least in my opinion. They need to own these more powerful summons instead of making them temporary. Egis at lower levels...I guess that'd be fine. Start small and all that. But SMN needs more progression when it comes to what they summon permanently.
