I was going to mention that same story. Because it also references the fact that Azem is Emet-Selch’s and Hythlodaeus’ friend. Hythlodaeus, while congratulating Hades on his appointment to the seat of Emet-Selch asks if he should contact “their friend.” Hades says no, they’ve probably already heard about it through gossip.

Emet-Selch and Azem are friends. Not lovers. Very good friends. But friends. And I don’t want to use the word “just” in front of friends because that often takes away from the meaning of friendship.

A true friendship is one of the purest forms of love there is. Girlfriends and boyfriends, husbands and wives, they can come and go. But a true friend is forever.
