It's definitely more relaxed, and for players who stick to the baseline difficulty, there's generally no issues in doing content. Going into more advanced content may be the only difference, and for the most part it seems simply be far fewer players participating in it. In any case, I end up seeing Ultimate weapons and titles every so often; there's nothing stopping people from completing the hardest content, it just may take longer to find enough high-skilled players to do it.
If anything, the data center's "reputation" is a benefit -- it drives away the vast majority the try-hard players.
While exceptions always exist, but you'll rarely run into players who take the game too seriously and just make everyone miserable in the process.
So yeah, players on Crystal are generally happier and more relaxed.
... though you do need to stomach a bit more weirdness fairly frequently.
I think you need to fine the right server on Crystal. Diabolos here and from my experience Diabolos is relaxed. There is RP but from what I have seen it's minimal. If you want RP you go to one of the other servers like Balmung. Ul'dah on Diabolos verse Ul'dah on Balmung is greatly different. On Diabolos it is pretty calm with mostly ppl just chilling or going about their business while in Balmung it is crowded especially the Adventures Guild which is full of ppl RPing. Granted it has been months since I've visited so maybe it has died down or gotten worse.
I always felt when they broke NA into 3 data centers, they did it intentionally based on some of these metrics.
Brynhildr and Diablos were Primal, and I always knew raiders there but in totality, Crystal just doesn't cut the mustard when it comes to clearing savage or ultimate with <10% E12S clears on average per server, which makes recruiting harder too. So it's a chicken and the egg problem. Why start on Crystal when you can start on the better DCs.
The data center split set Crystal up for failure as soon as they put all of the servers with the lowest clear rate together. Duh.
That being said, raiding on Crystal is fine. The scene is much smaller, but you can do everything that Aether does. I've cleared Ultimates via PUGs on Crystal. It ain't that bad. Hell, I would say the raiding scene is better than in Aether and Primal, because there isn't as many snakes sneaking into parties for carries since the community is much smaller and you'll form notoriety for being a jerk much faster.
Only thing that kinda bothers me on Crystal is PF seems pretty dead when I check it.
The amount of shit posting and creative personalities on Balmung are worth the visit.
God I hope not. I live there.
Goblin gang! Woo~
