Empty maps in 2.0(and new maps in general)

Umm...the maps will be different in 2.0, you know that right? It seems quite a few ppl don't really understand what 2.0 is. Maps/cities are being redesigned. Current Eorzea will cease to exist. It might still be called Eorzea though, but I'm not even sure if the cities will maintain their current names. I don't see why not though.

Well I spent almost 2 hours trying to get one gate today and ended up given up because there was no way past the monsters at Lasthold in the black shroud.

What you find fun I find damn right stupid. :D

Of course you aren't keen on platforming :P, are you one of those who didn't want jump added by any chance ?

Sounds like fun. Always enjoy map exploration. just hope its not tuned like GW1 map exploration was. I liked GW1. but running down a side of a rockface to get .001 percnt of the map exposed wasn't fun exploration really.

Also gives mea good reason to run around grabbing the current aetherytes now. so i can have that done before i get to do it again! wee! :D

I"m gotten a majority of the nodes and while I can understand your frustration what challenge would there be if they made all the "Exploration" areas easy as pie to get. Would you really feel like an achieved explorer if you found all the nodes with little trouble lol. The point of achievement is to be challenging it's not something everything can get, sure some people can get more of one achievement then the other but overall things like explorer achievement is for those who are willing to take the extra mile to get past the strong enemies that block them from achieving their goal.

lol so I've started to "explore" again, when you realize the tricks behind certain mobs it can be pretty fun. The red clippers won't aggro if you walk behind them, as long as they don't see you moving you can get past them just gotta be patient and experiment XD.

I'm very glad about this. I hope there is MUCH to explore in the new areas, hidden and secret places to find and many achievements about them. Also some quests about exploration and when you explores new parts or find something, you should get exp points too.

I would like also a npc that incentives you to explore (similar to the selbina clay quest), maybe about searching for ruins and writings to find around the world. And everything you find, you can archive the lore about them in a book (with art too if possibile). So as the 'famous' monsters-book Jynx suggested in an old topic (i would make also a 'nature' book about flora and plants/flowers to find through harvesting too).

For the old aetherythes, yes, they should reset them or leave only some of them (in any case you have to explore the zone around the aetherythe could you have). And you shouldn't teleport someone who still not reached that aetheryte..

About jumping, it would be sweet to have some places to reach with it. Some platforming elements would not ruin the game imo.

If I only knew who I had to kill to get a massive lore book into the game...

I am genuinely looking forward to uncovering the maps. :) Excited, even! Exploration is possibly my favourite part of gaming.

Love this feature. I really wouldn't have understood the concept of being handed a map after the destruction that Meteor will bring. Hopefully this will be tied to a quest or something (doesn't have to be significant) to train our character with basic cartography skills.

so i wonder if you will be able to buy maps as well, to unlock them straight up?

Yea because it would still require a vast amount of time, what we have right now is not difficult it is insane.

There is a small window of opportunity to get through to some gates and its all based on luck... luck as usual, luck should not be the deciding factor on how difficult a challenge is. (at least not in my opinion)

Actually crabs are sound aggro, you can walk in front of them behind them or anywhere around then as long as you are walking they won't aggro.

The ridiculousness is when you get:-
Drake - Sound based
Raptor - Sight based
Boar - Odour based

All in the same tiny corridor, there is no way of getting past them, drakes still have ranged attacks so can one shot you without any problem.

This is my problem, now if the monsters were level 60 I would have no problem, but you don't stand a chance against something 70-90.

For me challenge would be fighting your way through to a gate with a few like minded people.

Climbing a cliff like Attowa chasm in FF11, finding your way through a maze like in eldomine necropolis, jumping up platforms etc, there are many better ways to incorporate challenge without relying on cheap tactics.

Luck has nothing to do with it patience is a key factor. Aside like 2 gates they are incredibally easy to sneak past enemies and even the last two don't require that much aside from some patience.

I agree the mob placement can get a bit rediculous at times mainly due to boars being true sound (or scent whatever).

sounds great. Love the idea of challenges to exploration. I'd love to go exploring with my LS or friends and taking down local monsters as we dive into the world

I hope the environments are so dynamic and original that I never have to actually check my map, allowing me to use visual monuments to navigate the world... Opposed to checking the world map every 15 seconds to ensure I'm not moving in a circle because of the labyrinth of copy pasta landscapes we have now.

We will, because the title is "Shadow of the Wanderer", because we visited all the areas the last cartographer of Eorzea visited... so getting a full map of the new Eorzea will probably get us a new title, something like "the Wanderer"...

That's also why I think you will either be unable to buy maps, or only get the title if you didn't buy one.

Thankyou Square for making us feel like we can actually do our jobs as explorers now.

Wouldn't mind seeing a swamp theme that transitions into a creepy graveyard with ghosts and zombies. Talking shambling zombies attacking with their hands or whatever is left of their appendages and ghosts with shredded cloaks not ghosts that look like little balloons.

i mainly wanted to make sure people know im not "stealing" egophiliacs design and sell it as my own, just a fun idea i had because of the fameous cartographers hat woona has in moonstuck

I absolutely love this! The "Fog of War" mechanic is one of the best things an MMO ever came up with. For me, it was by far the most fun part about playing WoW. LOTRO on the other hand became significantly less fun for me when it was removed.

I hope guys get them all areas explored fast so you can post Jpegs of the maps for me to replace my DATS with :)

Considering that the areas are (Probably) all going to be significantly changed...yes.
