no you are directing blame at the wrong thing. i'd be able to give you many more reasons why power leveling is closer to the issue of capped classes and boredom the game has atm.

Dark, let me tell you, how many people do you think will go OUT of their way to Power Level someone if it took em 30mins to get to the area they need to be in? A lot less.
How many of those 50s would you have if you couldn't teleport everywhere?
Don't try to answer, because it's an impossible to answer question.
considering i only port once every few days and play many hours everyday i'd have every single of my 50's whether i had porting as an option or not. i'm sitting at 100 anima now and have been for over a week now. just because the option to port is there doesn't mean we have to use it all the time.
let me turn the question around on you. how many that started just a few months ago would have every single battle class capped within 90 days if they weren't power leveled and had the massive sp boost that yoshi put in place?
edit: i've seen people that started in november that had all battle classes capped by mid january. why not go check to see how long it took people to cap their first class originally. i'm even comparing people capping 1 class to people capping them all and it still took longer to cap that 1 class.
considering i stayed in coerthas most of the time and farming in treespeak it's nowhere near as far as you like to think. besides is you look i had all besides 2 classes capped before natalan even came into the game and they were both in their mid 30's. nice try, but it was still a fail. even counting being ported by parties to sp it's still only once every few days.
yes, i do port for events, but you asked directly about exp parties. as far as exp parties are concerned there are things called coordinating with your ls and know when and where to meet up. if you know where you are going and when to be there it's not as bad as you'd imagine.
Nowhere in the game is a massively long travel people use hyperbole to make unlimited ports seems like something they actually need.
I don't use Airships all the time, and I would certainly wait for the slower airship for 5k. I am definitely not poor either, just very very cheap.
I use it regularly due to me having no anima.. I've pretty much decided that I'll just use anima when I'm dead tired / sleepy and would rather just teleport to Grid and go into the Inn.. airship for regional travel and choco for distances of 2 zones max.
airship all the time. 5k vs 3 anima. no contest.
Disciples of the Hand need to be able to party up and build their own, customizable airships that can fly anywhere. Or at least have one for each linkshell or something.
Make it happen, Yoshi. =P
I never use it I think its too much. I have tried it once just to say I did lol. I don't play much so I usually just teleport or choco anywhere I want to go. If it was cheaper I would use it.
I think this is what the anima/tele system is for, rather than how most use it. I remember something once upon a time about anima/leves being so that people w/ limited time, and causal players could keep up w/ those that have 50+ hrs a week to play.
Sadly somehow this is not the system that we ended up with, it would have been nice.
I would prefer switching to the old school airships from XI (real time travel) while adding in a second instant teleport option. It doesn't bother me that the airship travel is instant, but why do I have to wait for it? Different pricing options would help balance it out and make both options appealing. Perhaps airships free (like the limsa <-> ul'dah boat is right now) and the teleport option 10-20k?
Cry more.
Anyways, the airship prices suck. Why am I being forced to pay more because I'm higher levelled? Implement something that allows me to spend 100k on an airship pass a month so I can just buy that instead of dropping 5k every single time I use the airship, which is at least 4 times every play session.
Just thought that was a bit funny. Anyways I think 5k or 20k a sesion to float around the towns is a pretty fair deal I wouldn't be opposed to a monthly pass of some sorts though good gil sink for the people who buy it and don't end up using it enough.
*edit*
I'm not sure why everyone on both sides has to get so defensive on the subject.
It sucks when you're generally poor to begin with. That, along with repairs. Shit gets expensive, man. Gil I could be spending on crafting mats/gear/etc. They could leave the 5k a ride there, but I want to be able to buy an airship pass to save me money, since I frequently use airships.
Back in my day, we didn't just get our airship passes handed to us. We had to EARN them. That's right. Rank Mission 4-1. Magicite baby!
But in all seriousness, a multi-ride pass or seasonal pass would be pretty nice.
As a means of transport I'm happy with them the way they are. The addition of being able to take the scenic rout with activities would be nice as an option.
I think the system is fine as it is, though I hope they implement the other various airship landings with 2.0 or sooner. I would gladly pay 2000g for a quick flight to some of the more remote areas in order to conserve anima.
I have a novel solution to the OP's issues with usage and speed. For those that played FFXI and remember the Treant event, I suggest something similar. For those unfamiliar, the event had players across the server killing massive Treants (similar to the Guardians of the Grove) in each zone. Once all were killed, the server was rewarded with Outpost teleportation services (we did not have anima so travel was either walk, Choco, WHM teleport, or death warp).
So my suggestion is this: the airship companies are looking for a new fuel source to power their ships and are asking adventurers to help. Players can either mine it in certain grade 5 areas or kill certain mobs (new?) as a way to obtain the fuel source. Set a quota for each city-state (say 1,000,000 pieces of fuel) and players have 1 week to complete the challenge (real life). This would be another example of a "live event" that Yoshi-P wants to incorporate into the world.
I have plenty more ideas similar to this. What do you all think?
@ Aryden, I welcome ideas that involve more then being handed a free pass to the airships, or any other mode of travel for that matter. IMO earning everything is much better then being handed everything.
I would agree, as long as it does not use frequent destination of overall travelers into the equation.
I'm sure alot of us remember the fiasco that was associated with Tele-Mea.
Nuts to paying 45k cause alot of people go to Uldah. But all things considered, I also hate the... 2-5 minute wait... sorta?
Never was too bad in my opinion.
I use it regularly and think the cost and wait time is fine. It's like less than 5 mins, a lot better than XI was. Get up and go take a leak or something, jeez.
Make them shorter!? I'm still waiting for them to have airships I can walk around on and mobs pop on deck to fight and I can see the world below the clouds, or perhaps a minigame where I can use a turret to shoot down Garlean scoutships for bonus xp, or Air Fishing to catch rare birds or sky creatures. If you want instant, thats why we have teleports, if anything Airships need more substance and time spent with them, not stripped down to an intant tele. But I admit at this current time they might as well be instant since there's nothing interesting going on :P
I want Chupon to come and sneeze at us and disembark us wherever we may land!!!
I use it often, but by the time I've spent bout 50k on it, I've made probably 10 times that within the same period. so its not costing me anyfings.
How much faster do people want these airships to go? Takes less than 5 minutes to get to one city to the next...if anything its worth taking the airship to be able to port for less anima. If you struggling to pay the 5k then I really don't know what to say. I would like to see the option of not skipping the cutscene and actually get to see the aerial view and maybe get attacked by pirates or dragons.
