Housing: Raise the Item Limit

Sorry, but it's not happening. Things will break, especially if the outside housing limit changes.

I played Everquest 2 before this. They've had housing from the start and it always had a decent capacity. It only went up when they flagged certain items as building blocks, because they essentially use the same textures. There isn't much like that, so ya'll are out of luck.

I got my medium about 5 weeks ago. Somehow I made all 3 levels looked filled in and look good with 300 items. Now at the "pull something out to put something in stage". I can live with it. However, I really have no desire to move up to large, if I even get the opportunity, simply because of the 400 item limit. I feel for large designers. Thats a LOT of space for so few items.

The game is getting a graphical update in 7.X. New servers, and technical upgrades are also happening at a slow but steady pace. I'm pretty sure that more items is naturally a thing they will do, especially because people who already have designed houses are less likely to use new housing items if they can't make room for whatever design they have set up.

IMO apartments really could use the increase, they are about 3/5 the size of a small plot, but only get half the item limit. Proportionally they should have at least a limit of 120.

As time goes on this will get easier. They have increased server upgrades to make servers stronger already, so I think it could be possible.

I don't even care with Large plot now because mostly their plot is on worst area, somehow pretty far from MB, too few outdoor item limit, and too few indoor item limit. Mostly satisfied with it as FC house than private house.

The Medium plot on the other hard is probably the BiS for private house. Like the one I have, near Goblet pools, Roegadyn flexing view, MB is not that far, 30 outdoor item limit, and 300 indoor item limit. The only wish I want is make the pillar and ceiling changed into other residential area's style, because Goblet ceiling is not loft friendly :(

Have to admit, now I have my goblet overlooking the pools, I've grown quite fond of the area. It's a lovely place.

Yeah, I did notice in Empy that all the large plots are along the edges. While the mediums are more center oriented. My medium is almost in the center and I love it.

You can EASILY outfit a full medium house with 300 slots but only if you are doing a standardised non-glitch/non-combine style of house, ie just get stuff and put it down. Once you move into the glitching/combining level of building then yeah I can see my medium house running out of slots pretty quickly.

My larger beef is the outdoor limit but I don't see that changing due to server/shared space issues in the outside world.

For the outside item limit it's not a server issue. It's a rendering issue. The client has to render every single item in the entire housing zone. So if you were to increase the outdoor item limit even by a small amount it would dramatically increase the total number of items the client has to render. That is the problem, or so they say.

I think 2 things they could do to at least help out with the limit: 1) Remove the aetheryte node requirement to teleport to your house. Requiring it for houses is completely arbitrary, because it's not required to teleport to apartments. It unlocks as soon as you buy one. 2) Make the mailbox part of the Placard/Outdoor design system instead of a placed item. Those 2 QoL changes alone would free up 2 outdoor slots for people to place.

You have to budget the capacity, and not only do you need to do that, it is also a good idea to stay under budget for each floor you assign. It is also a really good idea to limit the amount of furnishings you create that utilize multiple slots. This is a big reason why we run out of space so quickly. It would be awesome if housing décor was limited by imagination instead of slots, but that is not the case right now.

Every painter only has so much canvas. It doesn't matter how many slots they give us, we will always need more than what is available because the process of decorating expands the imagination and creativity. There are thousands of furnishings available, and the combinations on how they can be used are endless. We can always use more slots, but no amount will ever be enough.

So now you need to figure out what's coming down. You will need to do this in order to complete your decorations because we will not be getting more slots anytime soon. Plus, hopefully I've also shed some light why it is important to budget your slots when decorating. Especially a large.
