This.
They keep saying we're nearing the climax of this story.
But what about the next?
I would, given we'd have enough combat content to keep it going... at least until something new comes out, but the current state of the MMO market doesn't fill me with hope.
I'd be sad to see such a well thought out game end- but, on the assumption it'll be to bring out a new, potentially even better Final Fantasy MMO? I'd be ok with that. I feel like it has to be a substantial enough reason to bring it out though, the gap between FFXI and FFXIV is absolutely staggering- I'd expect the same for what comes next.
The moment the last challenge is done, I am out. The story isnt as well-done as most singleplayer RPGs since its entirely linear, but its nicely written in that sense. So since presumably it would end on some patch, I would finish the story, kill the last Savage/Ultimate stuff that I am still interested in, and leave immediately after to better games.
Depends on how they handle things leading up towards the end of active development.
For FFXI, that team just... :/ I couldnt stay for that.
I would if they could manage to have a good eternal endgame system which rotates older content from all previous expansions (not just the latest one). Some kind of season system wherein each season requires different content/instances from the game for progression. I think this could be great fun for a long time, cause there will be a shit ton of instances and content by the time this game reaches maintenance mode.
Indefinitely, to complete various personal goals. I don't tend to rush through things so that might take me awhile. It's sad when your favorite game becomes a ghost town, though, so although I wouldn't be among the first to leave I also wouldn't stick around to the bitter end.
Depends... maybe to reach a few goals remaining. But if there is a new game that really worth it, probably not. This said... considering the current state of MMO's, I don't expect anything before 2023/2025. A lot of things can change.
If the game has a sandboxy element mode in it by then that allows for players to create content, like say......a new world that players create and run the world themselves and fight for power, yes I'd stay (Despite how lofty a goal that is)
But theme park mmos live and die on content updates.
I would.
This game is a really endearing love-letter to the FF franchise. How Yoshi and his team has weaved so many FF related classics and callbacks in XIV is a real treat, one I don't think we'll probably ever see again. The attention to detail and fun ways they have incorporated the franchise is something I think will last for a while, God willing!
The extent that I would play in maintenance mode would depend on if I could solo / duo all content though. For example, if they implemented something where I could maybe have npcs in the three wings of the 24mans , that would be ideal.
I'll leave once the story ends. Right now, I only play because I'm invested in the Shadowbringers MSQ and my SO pays my sub so I can tank on demand. I've struggled to care about Savage, weekly caps, crafting, housing, etc, for years now and my friends have mostly moved on, with a handful still raid-logging.
It's been a couple of years, and most of the folks in this thread still post and play.
Have opinions changed?
I don't think I would keep playing XIV if it were in maintenance mode. It's not like XI where you carry a lot of stories from just playing the game with you. I.E. There aren't as many memorable moments just caught up in its game world.
Heck, after the way EW went, I've already started thinking about moving on from it. But its story is still going, and I am still intrigued. I guess for me it's that matter of intrigue. I'll keep going until I lose interest.
nah, once the Dev is done with it, so will I. As entertaining as it is, FF14 (or any MMO for that matter) is not really a sandbox game, especially when it also cost money to play.
I like to play 1 Game and feel there Home and not Game Hopping to find something new. I need always a long time to find something that I'm interested in. I was in a few Game and stayed till the bitter end but if it happens to this Game, I would not stay till the end.
If there's another FF MMO then I think I'll prolly move to that one. But I'll probably years later come back and make a new character and go through the msq and some content for old times sake.
I'll be honest, I'm definitely one of those "glamour is the true end game" player. The art style of FF14 just hit all the right notes for me. As long as the next FF MMO has similar art direction, I would be willing to give a try and even try really hard to like it. Heck, doesn't even have to be a FF tittle.
WoW is just way to date at this point, and the cartoonic graphic is honestly one of the main barrier for me to go back to it. While there are many more modern MMO with better graphic than FF14, the majority of them are over-sexualized that focus on smoking hot art, which I dislike. I also don't like the hyper-realistic yet with everyone look like super model like FF15 and FF7 remade either.
FF14's graphic have that classic anime charm, innocent cuteness while still somewhat realistic. Again, hit all right notes.
I'd probably keep playing because there is still a lot for me to do, but the truth is that for me personally, FFXIV does as much wrong as it does right. However, that is still a lot more right than every other MMO on the market right now. But this also means that if a better MMO were to drop, I'd probably just leave but I'd still remember it as a great journey that I enjoyed very much.
hope the graphical update brings in some much needed boost in color for the default game but yeah I do like its style. Although Im more of a fan of the heavily cartoony stylized look that WoW has. I sorta wish the next FF game would lean more into something more stylized that the usual realistic look but my biggest appeal in this game is the glam game. Ive worked hard to give each job its unique yet visually appropriate look that fits into its class identity.
If you mean having a more vibrant color (because the default is a bit washed out) you can already do it. And no, I don't meaning using a mod for it. If you have an Nvidia card you can use the Gforce Experience to apply several additional filters. Nvidia doesn't give you all the filter available because they remove several one that SE said could be constituted as cheating, so what you get are pretty much approved by SE as fair use.
Oh and you get pretty much no performance hit either, which is always nice.
knowing that it won't end so soon.., and how I tend to want to burn through personal goals and challenges..,
I'll likely be done like the rest when it fully ends..,[though it would bring many questions when the game ends, and whatever changes have taken place before then.., like housing lol..,]
I'll probably only jump/split attention when something FFXIV like, or FFMMO comes out.
<never liked the limited class options, and character limits in some MMO from the east.., but I love Accountwide options that benefit those that want it. whilst improving the single character game.., since you can have both if the game is steered in that way..,>
Nope.
The content currently offered is about the bare minimum to keep me subbed to the game, if the game went into maintenance mode i would just move on.
If anything they need to start releasing more content, or releasing content at a faster pace.
The only way I would play XIV if it was in maintenance-mode is if there were private servers for it, otherwise I'm not paying 20 dollars (thank you AUD) a month for a game not getting new content.
I think the nature of our character and the world means that we can continue to have adventures and new stories for a good while longer. The WoL being a mute player insert means that even though we have larger connects to the main mythos of the world, we can still be placed in new situations with relative ease. What may need to come to an end is things like the larger story arcs. I would also say characters, though I think ‘retire' is a more fitting word for them, as who knows when a future story may be improved by the impute of an old friend? How well SE will do that we will have to see. I think Endwalker was a worthy way to end that overall Hydaelyn arc, but 7.0 will be the true test of that, and I do feel they may need to fit in a way new players can start in the more up-to-date story from the get go, as that amount of 1-90 content is already daunting to some. ESO does a good job of letting you jump into the latest content, at the expense of an unclear timeline (It boggles my midn that they do not at least handwave some 'wibbly wobbly timey whimey' explination at this point.)
Sorry, got distracted there. It would depend on what FFXIV’s maintenance mode is like. Would there still be events? Would all story content cease? There is ALOT to do in this game, and so long as SE changed a few of the restrictions for old endgame content I can see it still having a life for a long time.
No. The story is 75% of what keeps me going in this game. Without the story it's just grind.
Maybe. I'd probably wander off to the next FF MMO (Ivalice please, that world has so much to offer us), but like with FFXI, I'd come crawling back after a while.
I feel this way as well. It is not a bad game, but it is a game that seems pretty much pointless without the msq to give context to everything. It is really hard to create memories around the game gameplay, unlike other old mmos that I keep coming back, where I get excited by trying new builds, trying exploration, grinding towards something with friends, etc.
If Square released a new MMO I would most likely try it because I enjoy the aesthetics, but hopefully it would be a different formula than this one.
All the content since 6.0 really has not caught me like the previous expansions did. For me, the game really felt like it ended in 6.0 and this content feels more like maintenance or very small bits.
No more large arcs or something to keep us glued to our seats. None of the new characters have drawn me in, they feel like there just there.
I’m logging in once a week to finish P8S farming and after next week, I’m expecting to be done until 7.0. I don’t plan on doing the rest of the Savages or Extremes.
To think, we have 14 months till 7.0 is released… that’s such a long time. Till then, I’m trying to find a new game, and if 7.0 is no good, time to /bow.
I Still play this game because my friends play It aswell. I never been interested in savages, so i spend my time relaxing in sastasha helping new players. Yes, besides ALL complayning of community, theres a lot of new players enjoyining the game, so FF14 is far from being a dead game. But if a new final fantasy mmo launch, ill jump into it, and probrably stop playing 14.
If there is another MMO that interests me as much as this, then yes I would move on.
If there isn't, then no. But I would play less frequently.
there will be a league of legends (runeterra) mmorpg, soulframe which is the mmo successor of warframe will be out, ZoS is working on another mmorpg, so we'll have a lot of options.
Nah! I just unsubbed yesterday.
I still pop in and visit Vana'diel still even with them being in maintenance mode, which still includes small but regular story updates. So I imagine that I would also continue to play or visit Eorzea in the future when it's not getting big updates anymore, but then again I've never been the kind of person to just drop a game unless it shuts down completely.
I stuck with FFXI for a long time after its development cycle officially ended. Still visit it on occasion to this day. They still toss out little tidbits here or there even tho--oh, it looks like a prior poster already explained this part. No need to.
I'm afraid I have no such attachment to FFXIV. There was a time when I did, but Endwalker absolutely murdered any affinity I had for the game. It would take a significant change indeed between now and the end for me to consider it worth revisiting after its development cycle ends.
No. In fact as soon as the next FF MMO gets released I would move to it. I did the same with XI.
Imagine paying 15 usd for no new content, eventually this game will turn in to f2p with massive premium cash shop. That's all they care since years
There is no horizontal progression like the entirety of endgame is in FFXI, so no, I would not play this game if it were put into "maintenance mode". Also, FFXI is in a weird spot where it may feel like maintenance mode and then the devs add a whole new system with new gear into it like with the addition of Sortie and the +2 and +3 of the empyrean gear last fall and the start of a new relic weapon...
I don't understand this question. In my opinion, 14 is already in maintenance mode, if you are running the MSQ. All of the triggers, all of the beats, they're all settled. It might be weird post Shadowbringers, but man it is all taken care of.
The only difficulty that would come about of Maintenance mode is people trying to do their extremes not getting swept up in Trial roulette, or anything similar. But by the time 14 goes into what you might consider 'maintenance mode,' all that stuff will be taken care of too.
By the way, at some point, this game will be almost meaningless. All of your achievements, all your progs, all your blood sweat and tears will be ultimately crushed by the gears of time. You should know better; you should live in the moment, and if you can't you need to try and move on before it's too late. It's for your own good.
I would move on. If the game isn’t offering content but has a sub then there is no point in staying. By that time someone will make a mmorpg that might be worth playing or if not there is millions of other games to play.
If there is no sub. Which I doubt will happen, I would login occasionally for nostalgia.
