Don't try to fix what is not broken. Derp SE.
Lol not even true. Blinking lights/flashing colors are far more noticeable than solid lights.
Why do you think turn signals blink?
Why do you think ambulances/cop cars have blinking headlights/flashing lights?
Why do you think school buses have blinking lights when they stop to pick up kids?
Why do you think big semis with heavy loads have blinking lights?
I could go on...I mean the list of blinking lights over solid lights is enormous. You are much more likely to notice something blinking than you are to notice something thats not blinking. If this weren't the case, then derp none of the things above would blink. Why else do you think the blink is so annoying? Cuz its more noticeable..it distracts you.
Course it doesn't bother me so I'll conclude by saying:
Blink or solid it accomplishes the same goal. Get used to it.
Agreed. I was happy when i saw the reaction abilities lighting up, but then /sadface when i saw it applied to everything.
they r already different in color so why do we have to provoke a Stroke from all the blinking lights
I don't like the blinks, I do like the solid. Its hard for me to see when it is blinking if my cursor is already on it, never had that issue with the solid light. It lets me pay less attention to my blocks/parries/evasions which is good, but also bad. Easier isn't always better, but it is generally more convenient.
I don't have a problem with how it works now.
perhaps reaction skills should blink faster, and normal combo actions should just glow solid purple like normal.
Simple, make it glow for combos, and blink if its a reactive ability that has a prereq like a dodge/block/parry. It would also save from any possible confussion of when your attension is drawn to the ability bar. It would draw the eye right to the reactive ability over drawing it to the next abilitiy in a chain.
I play with the sound off most of the time as i listen to my own music, tv shows and ls on vent. I rely on the visual cues to complete a combo
Or, OR! Have a blinking light for abilities that meet certain requirements and keep the solid light for combos!
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Sold > Blinking, I agree.
solid lights for combos, blinking for reactive abilities
{yes, please}
They got blinking lights, to make them distinguishable between the SOLID lights all over the street.
Your statement is "Lol not even true"...blinking lights are only more noticable when used AMONG solid lights.
It's about the context, in your example this does not apply to what is going on in FFXIV...
Why you think traffic lights are solid lights? Cause if they would blink it could cause confusion as to which colour is active right now and which is not? Which is what has happened here, blinking lights cause confusion as to wether your combo is active or not, if you happen to watch at them right when the blinking is "down"...
Think before posting...
I'll have to join the crown in the fast blinking also bothers me. I have severe motion sickness and anything in the UI that suddenly wants to pulsate at rapid speed (like the old treasure loot icon) tends to trigger it.
It would be nice if combos abilities lit up solid in one color (bright white/yellow I believe it is now?) and reactionary abilities lit up solid in a different color, such as hot pink or green. That way I could know that it is available to use but isn't part of the current combo succession I am carrying out.
Really glad they added the blinking for reactive skills, but I do agree with the others, the combo ones should stay solid =) I actually thought that was what they were going to go for initially...
I never wanted reactive abilities to blink at all. I wanted them greyed out if I can't use them, and colored in when I can. Keep the light up circles for combos. Anything that blinks, flashes, pops up, etc is annoying.
yeah solid ring was better. Keep the azure ring for abilities like heymaker, but keep all of them solid.
Would be nice to have color-coded highlights... something like solid, non-blinking blue for combos, and a green > yellow > red countdown for reaction skills so that you know how much time left to use it.
Solid for combo's, blink for reactive abilities. This was what I thought they were doing all along.
I constantly think my combo missed because of the blinking, then I worry about waisting TP/MP and just stare ate the combo ability for a few seconds to make sure its really blinking, terrible design.
Agree!

I don't mind the blinking. I can still tell when i can combo a skill chain or not just fine. If anything, having something flash on and off the way it does should have made it more noticeable to everyone.
You still have the skill chain icon in your status, so that should also be fairly obvious if you missed or landed a combo.
I like what they have done with this as well personally I perfer the solid light as well. But a problem I noticed was on the action ones as well still need some work. Go on GLA/PLD and set ageis boon, wardrum, and phalanx next to each other and then do boon wait for them to light up then click one notice how they stay flashing the whole time your doing say phanlanx wardrum is still blinking as soon as you click phalanx, wardrum should stop blinking and that goes for all action ones.
P.s. I get its a new system and they have some things to work out.
+1 to making the Combo skills solid colours and the reactionary skills blink. There was no need for the combo skills to blink also.
Like many people said: Purple for Combo, another color for Reaction. Without any blinking >.<
Yea I can't stand the blinking either, it would be nice to have the option to go back to the solid ring in the UI config.
It's not a deal breaker for me but I do prefer the solid color for combo skill lighting. I find it very slightly distracting. Perhaps make the skill combo light blink only when its about to run out like the status icon does. Or have it cycle btween a red and purple color rather than fade in and out.
Low priority, would be nice if...
I agree, having to stare at the bar for that extra second to make sure the combo will actually take place (we don't want to waste MP now do we?) is a little bothersome and can cost someone their virtual life in a critical (plumey) situation.
The solid glow = faster reaction times, please do bring it back :D <3
Give us the choice between which/if at all (combo or reaction) to blink or stay solid, or maybe the speed or how many blinks before it stays solid...and also give us a choice of colors.
Now everyone's happy!
I find the blinking more distracting because the highlight disappears so i think i ran out of time, thus i stare at my bar longer.
I feel the blinking should only be used on the moves that are triggered from a parry/dodge/miss, and i feel the blinking should be faster (not so much delay in blinking).
On a side note thanks to /countdown and /random i am 4mil richer =)
I don't even need to look @ the bar to tell if i can use my next combo if my char does not get the pink flash on its body then combo failed simple as that.
Thank you all for your feedback!
The dev. team will be looking into adjustments to the blinking of the action icons in order to make it easier to see and easier to play.
One thought is -
Combos were nice the way they used to be with just the solid highlight.
Skills that require a miss, dodge, etc to activate should just never be lit at all unless the condition occurs. We already have a method for showing which skills we can use....the skill lights up on the bar (conditions sufficient mp, tp, etc...). Just make the miss, dodge, etc be one of these conditions that causes the skill to light up. Feint should never be lit unless I have both TP and a Miss.
Don't mix together the visualization of combos and the visualization of eligible skills to use. These are two different concepts.
I still don't see whats wrong with blinking. I think all of you are off your rocker, never been a problem for me at all during combos o.o
I love the blinking combo light. I think the best would just to add an option to have it blink or not. So that everyone is happy.
