Yea, the parallels between Solas and Solus are more than a few. They both played savior to their people but at the cost of irreparable damage to their worlds; they tried to fix it anyway but slept way too long on actually doing that, to the point where succeeding would mean destroying more than they would restore, regardless of how much grander the past was through their rose-tinted glasses.
Even so I found them both very sympathetic, especially with their connection to the player (though that's because I made the mistake of romancing the egg), but what they're asking is too much. They needed to cut their losses and work on the future instead of desperately trying to restore the past... though I imagine that's difficult for someone who's been tempered for so long.
