They were way overcautious with the BRD buffs. The songs ended up not giving enough DPS in practice to justify the nerfs to DoT tick damage, so I hope that this is reversed soon, preferably sooner than 5.2.

The physical ranged DPS role in general is struggling. There's really no good reason for ranged to do so much less than casters and melee. I feel that many people, and SE as well it seems, greatly overvalue the 100% uptime/free movement of the ranged DPS.
100% uptime is not an advantage when you're still pulling lower numbers than melee/casters with 90% uptime, and good strategies can reduce melee/caster uptime even further, widening the gap. If a melee or caster can completely disengage from the boss to handle mechanics a physical ranged normally would, and still maintain a lead in raid DPS, what is the advantage of bringing a physical ranged?
The physical ranged classes brought a lot more to the table in the previous expansions - they were a practically necessary source of MP for healers. It made sense then that they pulled numbers lower than casters and melee, but that's not the case anymore. If freedom of movement is going to be their only real "advantage", ranged DPS jobs need to be buffed so they aren't so far behind melee and casters.
I tried out bard yesterday and I was a bit surprised at just how much my DPS dropped since 5.0x.
Ouch.
