The 500 dps difference most people bring up comes from Titan Savage. A 20 potency increase to Malefic will give you a vaguely approximated pdps increase of 300 (at 50%) up to 400 (at 95%). Which technically does fix the problem of AST being too far behind WHM, but it creates another problem.

The issue with looking at this in a vacuum is that it doesn't account for the other benefits of running AST. Because AST has so much freedom and flexibility with OGCDs, it functions as an enabler, allowing their co-healer to put out more DPS than they otherwise would (e.g.: if they had a WHM partner).

If you look at combined healer DPS parses in Titan at various percentiles, you'll see that AST+SCH is not that far below WHM+SCH. This Malefic buff will, in most cases, put AST+SCH over WHM+SCH.

This would be nowhere near as big of a disparity as it was in SB, but if you're not careful with AST buffs, you might end up excluding WHM again.

....well the only reason I thought of that potency number for malefic because you not only having some downtime using oGCDs, but also using your card system, redrawing cards, upgrading to the lord cards, etc. I get the reason that raising the potency won't make a difference, but that also made think that that's a lame excuse to keep another job from being neglected, yet so far the only neglected job right now is AST even if it had interesting tools with benefits. So I don't think that WHM will be neglected again if AST gets buffed to be on par, but a bit more with SCH for example. WHM is now that job where their cure potency and DPS potency isn't to be ignored.

And so AST, the most difficult healer to play optimally, becomes marginally more effective at the highest end than Glare-spamming WHM.
It’s not as big an issue as you say.

Are we really back on that tired old "WHM is the baby paste-eating healer and deserves to be weaker than our galaxybrain complex master class healer(s)" train again? Because that was a common excuse for why WHM blew chunks last expansion too.

WHM is so brain dead in healing and DPS is that people will give you the stare if you tell them that job will be excluded again.

Excuse me for thinking that ASTs should only be stronger than WHM when they:
Keep perfect uptime
Cast near-zero healing GCDs
Draw mostly melee arcanum, or have a BLM in the party
Overcome the odds of RNG and get 3 seals for every divination
Align divination perfectly with other raid buffs
Align card-usage with party members’ burst phases and buffs

And most importantly-

Have a party that is good enough to make the most of your buffs.

Versus WHM’s:
Stay still unless you have to move
Make the most of every Afflatus skill (movement, weaving, etc)
Cast Misery in buff windows.
