Never mind I found it and it does include the previous expansions...thanks all! :D
This varies heavily from company to company, the way we do it is by first testing the new feature in a closed environment in-house to fix potential problems that show up quickly and overall optimize and fix it as much as we can. Which is the easy part.
When deploying the update to the live servers - this is also easy, realistically speaking this is pressing a button on the main system which in turns deploys it to all the hubs, the problem then is upgrading the software of the server itself to match the new game code, if you don't do this, have fun crashing around the clock and potentially causing a very large and expensive fire. Plus you have no guarantee that when you flip the on switch, everything will work fine.
You'll need to change the scripts, restart them so they work properly, actually enable the new update itself, restart the scrips some more and modify them further so they fit their purpose on the new update.
For comparison, a relatively casual update at my workplace takes roughly 5-6 hours of downtime. We had some problems with the servers last week on Monday that lasted throughout the week and was finally fixed on Friday morning. Turned out it was a couple SSDs and some power supplies that were on their way to death that needed replacing, actually finding them was a huge pain in the backside.
I wish I knew how SE does this stuff, everyone does it differently, it's always fun to learn how others do it and use their strategy if it's better. Except if they don't use wires for cable management and color coding to make it easy. That stuff triggers me.
One of the screenshots in that link literally says you need PSPlus to check for updates while in rest mode. Now if you don’t have PSPlus you can start the update then go into rest mode and continue but you can’t have it check for updates in rest mode unless you have Plus

One thing- in my time zone, the automatic download from PSN rest mode starts around 5am...the game goes live tomorrow at 4am here. I’ll need to probably start download manually around midnight so it will be ready to go by 4.
Idk, every other MMO I've played lets you pre-download the client. Look at WoW, blizzard lets you pre-download their expansion and patch data a week in advance...
I disagree crystal, we paid for a game / extension the least thing a company has to communicate. At least tell us if the download will be available before the end of the maintenance or not. Beside that they prefer us out of images on tweeter. Especially since they know very well what is expected of them.
As the technical and other problems say, these are their problems, we have paid and we simply ask for communication.
Well, every other MMO I have played (excluding WoW which I have only dabbled in) will not provide patches before they are to go live. WoW is the only place I have encountered this pre-downloading thing.
Different companies obviously have different practices, but I do think that Blizzard and WoW are the ones being unusual in this regard.
Before we download don't we need them to send us that pre-order download code in the email? If you read the instructions then you're supposed to put the first preorder code in that gives you the gremlin minion then sometime today/tonight aren't they supposed to send a early access code that we need to put in on their website? The whole thing is confusing to me because it said it wasn't the same code as the preorder code you use to get your minion....anyone recieved a second code yet? Plus Lodestone is down too so no way to enter it until tomorrow anyway.
One day, when machines are the only things responsible for coding, modeling, rigging, script writing, QA testing, etc... On that day, I will gladly join my voice in anger and frustration. Aaaaah, how dare these supposedly infallible machines not measure up to our standards! Unacceptable!
But these are humans, hopefully with a life of their own, just like us, whom I'm sure also struggle and fail to predict every scenario in which things might go wrong.
And so I like to always give the benefit of the doubt, and opt for cautious optimism rather than negative cynicism.
It's a good thing the devs have community representatives, I'd hate to have to be the one filtering through some of the mean, downright demeaning comments some other players make.
Enfim! C'est la vie!
They could. And then you could end up having to download it again, and again, and again, because who knows whether or not they might spot some mistakes before it's out.
And then you'd have people with limited bandwidth, or horrid internet, complaining. Which ironically, it seems they'd do anyways...
I hope they have the download up soon, I really want to go to bed, and i'd like to have it downloading before I do that.
After midnight and still no patch data available for pre-load :/
Yeah Vahlnir, to be honest, the only thing I ask is an approximate time to download the game, nothing more. I regret the lack of communication community managers who prefer to put artwork rather than answer us on twitter.
we pay a subscription, an extension is the minimum.
Almost 2 am cmooon
It's only 3 pm pst, a little over half way through the maintenance period. Chances are it'll still be a few hours before it drops. Maybe not even until 11pm/12am pst.
That's not how it works though, if they needed to make a mistake we have things like hotfixes. They can just send out a much smaller amount of data to fix the mistake. Another question is... can I leave my client opened and logged into while I sleep or will I have to close it and relog in to start the download?
If Square didn't feel like they had to hold the download to avoid data miners from spoiling they would probably release it earlier.
Exactly and now we are like 9 Hours, 33 Minutes, 10 Seconds before release!!
My only concern is just that there is usually some difficulty downloading thanks to the mad rush of people all trying to get at it at once. This is going to be even worse if they hold until just before the release.
Precisely this. I’m also concerned about my connection, as my downloads from SE’s servers always seem to be incredibly slow. And I don’t want that to cut into my zero hour plans.
RE: the data-mining post. I doubt they’re delaying it for that. Dataminers will mine regardless of when it’s released. The time the patch drops has never stopped them before.
It's illegal for games in japan to release DLC before you can have access to it
So far they very really lax with that rule and just put it up while the game was not available but would be
It is currently past 8 in the morning for them, yet there is no pre-download
So you guys either wait 2 more hours and pray, or just sleep and get up 2 hours pre early access to hope and try then without being sleep deprived
If you have work around that time, well sucks
But as you are bound to work they sadly are bound to law and becoming this big they really don't want to get into a lawsuit drama about something like a DLC download
Come on SE! Where is the download?! PS4 and Mac have their preloads up already!
I think Stormblood's pre-patchability started just an hour or 2 before the maintenance was scheduled to end. Though it was awhile ago so my memory is fuzzy on it.
Yeah PS4 has NOT triggered the download yet and I just hit check for updates on the application and nada.
