I have no issues dodging aoes. A lot of that is still people not understanding how aoes work. Also, ping has nothing to do with the servers themselves currently, and everything to do with how crappy the internet is in the US

...how often do you do that? Because I can tell you that thats not something I usually do...
While I wouldnt say No to better textures, I'd like to question how desperatly we need them (and if it would be worth sacrificing content for them) if you have to zoom into your hands to notice that they could be better. Sounds a bit like saying that you need to renovate your apartment because you found dust on the top of a shelf...
Again, dont get me wrong - better textures would be nice, but even without them the game looks gorgeous (to me at least) and having better looking hands or feet (a part of my character I rarely see or notice, a part thats often actually covered in some gear...) is not even "QoL" its "eh, would be nice to have, I guess" at best.
So at least I can say that yes, even after looking at Vidus hands and feet, we dont need higher rez models or better textures.
MSQ cut scenes are the bigger culprit of that. But, you are right. It isn't the top of the list.
Look I am not saying I hate the game, I love the game. I spend a shit ton of money supporting the game, I love the community, but the back end needs to be fixed. Yoshi-P has even said this, but he always says it would cost content.
Honestly I'm not sure it'd be worth it.
Even if they spent an expansions worth of resources trying to get something decent out of their spaghetti code, it's still the same game engine and would still suffer countless restrictions and require far more resources to continue pushing out improvements.
Choosing to keep the old 1.0 engine was an unfortunate mistake. They'd be better off remaking the game from scratch on a much better engine than sacrificing an expansion trying to fix this one. It's like giving an old outdated 10 year old desktop a bunch more RAM, a fancy new monitor and a new graphics card. It'll do a bit better, but it's still nothing like a brand new up to date computer.
The fact that everytime the fans request more character customizations including body sliders and facial options feels that some focus should be placed on this. They say body sliders are locked behind the gear imaging for example, and they would have to go back and fix all this gear.
But..this is a demand that always comes up from the public. If they wait longer, isnt the process to fix this gonna be more taxing as more gear is created?
At some point, they really should focus on some of the more nuanced problems that barricade things, even if only slowly at a time. Are people really ok with them always saying no to the same request that comes up?
I'm not saying they don't work hard, but I equally wouldn't mind a delay in a patch to get these kind of things done.
maybe SE should funnel a little less money out of XIV and give them more than a shoestring budget
Umm no, I have no issues dodging aoe even when I was starting in ARR on PS3. I will RARELY get issues where my connectivity to servers starts to act up and I experience this issue but a quick tracert and it ends up being a bad node dropping my packets EVERYTIME.
Everytime I see someone on here complain about their connection, eventually someone asks them to check their nodes and poof, they suddenly disappear from thread. The internet isn't a direct connection to any server you want, there are backbones connected by nodes that act as highways for those connections, if at any point you come across a bad node your connection will suffer. It why you can connect to one game's server just fine, but DC every 5 min on the another's, it depends on the route your connection takes.
If their netcode was as bad as you said, then literally EVERYONE would be having connection issues, not X% of community, not people from this city or that city or country, everyone.
In regards to Yoshi saying he'd like to go back and fix the code, he was referring to the code that's the foundation the game is built on. It's a mish mash of spaghetti code is the reason why things like getting chocobos to act as pets instead of party members took forever. You change one thing in this part of the code and the whole game could become nonfunctional, it's a very careful game of jenga fixing those issues.
I would like EQ-Style expansions. Daybreak (SoE/Verant/989) has been putting out expansions for 20 years that the general community cannot generally keep up with. To translate that to FFXIV terms. Imagine 5.0 is about to hit. Most people would be on 3.4, 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 content. Your hardcore raiders would be on 4.4 and some would be just now finishing gearing some of their peeps in 4.5 content as 5.0 hits.
Of course, they focus heavily more on endgame content than story/leveling content. They also make some of the top end gear from previous expansions still relevant into the current expansion. And they've been doing this with a skeleton crew for nearly 2 decades.
So ideally, about 10% of the content being around the MSQ with 10% with some side things to do, with the rest (80%) focusing on max level dungeons for the expansion. I wouldn't mind a few expansions that focus entirely on non-leveling content as well. They only raise their level caps in EQ every 2-3 expansions or more in some cases. And not always by 10 levels.
I am overseas from the servers and have no issues dodging AoEs. If I get hit by them then it was my fault; I was late, pre-positioned incorrectly (not close enough to the boss), juggling a crucial part of my rotation with dozens of AoEs or there is evidence of connection/machine lag.
Read so interviews and Yoshi-P was mentioning how they were worried about the server load and that is why they can't give us more inventory space via the armory chest.
Not a good idea at all, but what they could do is expand their development team. Like it feels like SE is using a team size for an indie game which this is obviously not the case. I don't think SE has grasped the concept of how much of a cash cow this game really is for them.
So no SE needs to get their act together with expanding their development team.
I don't think it's a good idea at all. Not necessarily because I don't want it, but because the game itself doesn't really have much to offer in terms of end game content, and just content in general.
- Remove raids? Well, there goes your hardcore and midcore players since there really isn't anything in this game that is challenging.
- Remove/lower amount of dungeons? There goes the bulk of our leveling and tome grinds. It's also the piece of content most players run so it can make the game feeling empty, similar to how 4.1 felt with the delay of Eureka and only having 1 new dungeon introduced.
- Relics? All types of players do this type of content and it's also the only piece of content that has long term progression, that I can recall anyways.
I think you get the point. If you remove one piece of content, you basically remove a big part of why people play the game. Regardless, we as a community shouldn't have to sacrifice things if the game is beyond profitable, which XIV is. All the revenue the game makes just simply isn't going back into it, which is why we have both a small dev team and technical issues.
I actually understand OP's concerns and I would love for them to be able to just get in there and give it a clean out because most of the time when the community is requesting something it has been looked into but can't be done due to limitations of the engine, I was happy when they dropped ps3 support as I thought that would mean they would have more leverage to play with with that machine that was holding the game back gone, Textures on armours are AWful due to the limitations, yes from a distance they look amazing but if you zoom in too much it goes all blurry and ugly looking the limitations factor for this game has me worried and it has done for years.
