If anybody's in the same boat, I put a request up on the tech support forum, you might want to chime in.
I was digging around in the application bundle of the new client and found some interesting things. While it is true that this is a 64-bit Wine wrapper, it appears to contain code and libraries by Codeweavers, who produce the Crossover product for Mac and Linux.
I also found libMoltenVK.dylib in the bundle. If the new client actually uses it, that could be good news. Certainly, my brief test of the new client before I left for work this morning shows that it is at least as fast as the old client, and possibly faster. I'm looking forward to testing this out more tonight, but I'd be interested in hearing other impressions of the new client's performance.
I'm running on a quad core i7 2017 iMac with the high end Radeon graphics adapter.
