You can like male locked Hrothgar, and female locked Viera, but a lock is naturally a lock, and a lock is naturally a limit. We might as well call them limited races.

Just got home from work and caught up on the fanfest details.
I'm actually excited and nothing has disappointed me since we all knew this was coming for months now due to that unmentionable event.
Very dissapointing anouncement.
Started 20 minutes late.
Half the time was spent rehashing old anouncements.
Dwarf beast tribe are just Lalafells with less rights. No announced primal.
Dancer, ranged physical. No clarification on damage type. Slashing would be useful for a ranged physical type.
We're going to an alternate Eorzea, which is basically the same land, just slightly different development.
Male Viera do not exist for the same lore reason that moon Mi'qote shouldn't exist.
Got Furry Roegadyn, aka Hrothgar, which was already sniped from the french leak.
The concept of "fighting for darkness" is literally just fixing the daylight and weather cycle of the planet. Fantastic. Not even that we are missunderstood, we're just literally doing the opposite of FFXV and fixing the planet's rotation to get a nighttime, instead of a daytime.
Half-baked Eden announcement after the Paris FanFest. "It wasn't ready" What, that artwork wasn't ready? A seedling with a small patch of grass in the middle of a wasteland wasn't ready?
Making a point about Gaia's hammer. Did we forget about Nero and Grynewaht? That "teasing" was pointless the moment they ended the English Commentary stream without a surprise reveal of a hammer job (which healers would demand at least this if not Dancer).
One of these is Marketboard City. The other is Tomestone City.
Crystal Tower and Limsa Lominsa.
Lakebed is Mor Dohna.
And then ended on time, despite 20m late start. Fantastic.
Welcome to reskinned assets, the expansion.
No excuse for gender locked races. Just lame, plain and simple.
*Best fanfest ever!
I'm pretty good at fixing text. :)
People are complaing about gender locked when things could be worse, it could be like tera where not only are races gender locked so is the classes. i'm okay with gender locked races.
Basically summed up how I felt about it. Normally the last fanfest in a cycle like this would be where they reveal all their big stuff and last minute surprises. I was kind of shocked by all of it really, this is one of the worst they've done in a while. Even the audience was really quiet! I remember the last fanfest where the audience blew up when Yoshida came out in the samurai AF, everyone went crazy. Whereas at this one? The entire JP audience was practically silent with only some small applause here and there. The lukewarm reception basically summed up the reception as a whole I think! I'm also genuinely surprised they actually added a gender locked race, I was under the impression that they weren't going to do that again and that they learned their lesson with roes/miqo. On the other hand, at least for the races it is possible the other gender could be added later. Let's not forget in 1.0 that the miqote and roes were gender locked as well and that eventually got fixed after a while, that could very well be the case here.
The late start of the stream really set the tone for the entire presentation for me and it really made it all feel rushed and not very exciting. The new zones and music were cool to see and I actually really appreciated the lore and story presentation we got. Dancer looks like it could be fun and making it a ranged dps was actually a very interesting creative decision and I am really curious to see how it plays. But then I saw some of the things I didn't like which you mentioned above. I'm genuinely surprised by their decisions for this one.
Guys i can understand no new healer announced this time. But when they showed Gaia Yoshi talked alot about how they can make the hammer work so possibly a new healer they might spring at the last few months before release.
Personally i was hoping for dnc healer to go with the new Gunbreaker but either way dont just give up hope yet because Yoshi hides too much in what he says.
Anyway heres to hoping for a hammer healer for all you healer mains who keep tanks like me alive.
Posted in another thread but i also think he might say something in one of his live letters later.
He did at one point say he's having a long one before the expansion drops.
You summed up perfectly for me as well, very disappointed with DNC as a DPS and not a healer, I wanted something new, something freshz and I got so excited I started playing FFXI just to get a crack at DNC and I was thinking of a melee healer, something that the other healers don't have and that is unique. Heart dropped when they said it was a DPS and I was hoping for male Vieras because, it makes sense to not have gender locked races. I thought SE learned their lesson with 1.0 and now again because of LORE!?!? male Miqote ( keepers of the moon) is the same way as male Vieras so I am disappointed in those who wanted male Vieras playable. I'm sorry guys
After that announcement, I stopped watching the stream.
For the male Miquote... kind of. People took the lore from Mithra (FF11) and applied it to Miquote, which is why there were no cat boys. But as I recall, there wasn't a strong piece of lore in FF14 suggesting that male Miquote weren't possible.
Same thing with Roe... players applied Galka lore to Roe. But in both cases, Miquote and Roegadyn are not Mithra/Galka respectively. The primary reason they didn't have male Miquote and female Roegadyn was because 1.0 didn't have them (and they were working with assets from 1.0).
Viera has a very clear lore that males don't leave the forest.
We don't know the lore about Hrothgar, but they are not Ronzo from FF13, just an homage.
At 1st I was like "damn I missed the live" because it was 2am-4am for me. Now I'm glad I missed it. I would have been upset to lose my sleep time for this.
I have a feeling that the people who are actually attending fanfest have a very different opinion.
I look forward to the OP leading the boycott of the expansion just like he did with the Shirogane housing fiasco.
Truth of the matter is people talk a good game but won't actually do anything meaningful outside of moan about it and throw out the homophobic/sexist devs card.
It's okay to be mad that you didn't get what you wanted and I hope the devs do have a change of heart but the amount of people throwing out vitriol, losing all sense of reason and making it political is blowing my mind right now.
I honestly couldn't care less how male viera looked, they could be beefy, slender or cute and boylike. Hell, they could throw at us that actually Viera all look VERY much like females and that we actually saw both male and female when they initially announced them. But giving us cute bunny girls and some bulky roe with lion head(not even that refined ones, might I add) irks me. a lot.
They literally saved the worst for last.
I hoped there would be a reveal of something in the live letter, even just some new gear or something, but there wasn't really anything exciting.
If you're in for a penny, you might as well be in for a pound and follow up the worst preview cycle with a producer letter that touched on about as much 14 information as a fortune cookie.
My fortune says... "Buy more fortune cookies!"
it was as exciting as it can be. exciting as the Blizzard presentation for the new Diablo game to bad it was for mobile only.
As for Gunblader being tank, its ok.
Dancer being mid dps its ok too,
hoped to see a healer like in FFX-2 Singer/Performer but well dreams never come true.
Viera Female being gender locked well in my case dont care much about it playing most the Time Female Chars anyway but Hrothgar being male gender locked, its stupid.
but hoping they change it some day.
Migote started out being Gender locked too.
I am glad there was no male version bunny.
they answered the people who didn't want it, that must of been a bigger audience than the people who wanted it.
People got bunny girl I didn't care much about it but because it was in high demand they got it.
you can't always get it your way.
I liked the part where they asked Oda about why you can go back into dungeons and fight bosses you already defeated. "It's just because it's a game. There's no lore reason."
I really liked that reasoning. Sometimes you add features to a game, because its a game. Not everything has to adhere to lore.
Great. The "healer" fails and the party all dies because the boss just entered a "zero damage" phase. Or RNG raises it's ugly head and the damage dealt wasn't enough to save the tank.
Or worse, melee healer is so overpowered that the other three jobs are abandoned as part of the new Meta, and WHM is once again relegated to the ash heap, along with astonished SCH and AST.
Why not get the current healer jobs straightened out first?
Oh, and by the way, if Dancer had been healer #4, it would be SIX YEARS before Ranged physical DPS could even hope to make it to three jobs ... (well, two and three quarters, since MCH still isn't where it needs to be)
I have no idea where this strike idea-thing came from. I for one will surely enjoy my lightning fast queues.Quote:
I really hope all healers strike and you have to wait hours in a que...
