I've played enough MMORPG's over the decade and i can tell you that there are enough games that have way more items than ff with less inventory and "bank" space. The point is most people are hoarding stuff that they never use just because they can and that goes for every game.
Let's assume for a second that they do double all kinds of inventory. Guess what will happen? It still won't be enough. The same people will come forward again and cry that they've run out of space because they're compulsive hoarders who can't break a habit. They'll once again demand more space, and again and again. It is never enough with these people.
For what it's worth, I have almost everything at 70 with level appropriate gear, 6 retainers, a half full glamour dresser with 7 plates, and a half full saddlebag. The retainers could be easily condensed down to 2 if I could be bothered. You know how? Throwing things away, shocking concept I know. Those 6 Nidhogg totems you're still holding on to despite not running it since 3.4? Chuck them. Currency bloat isn't a thing if you're smart and don't hold on to them when they're no longer relevant. The only currency taking up space should be the Alphascape stuff, the 24 man coins, and savage books. Maybe a primal totem or two of choice.
If you're an endgame crafter/gatherer, throw away anything from 3.0 and earlier that isn't from a timed node, you don't need most of them for anything relevant. "But what if?"- then go gather/buy them as necessary, then chuck away the excess.
People like to make out it's Square's fault that they don't have free space, and while I partly agree, I firmly believe the playerbase is more at fault for not having more self control and little to no management skills.
Yes I'm a hoarder but I do it because I don't wanna have to go back and get the items that I already have a fine point to make something and I already have the items available that saves time and money if necessary I have to get the items then I will and maybe the time save isn't going to be huge but it's still something. For most part most of the non crafting items I have are a lot of them goes I'm still leveling jobs and for glamor purposes even though I don't do a whole lot of glamor
I personally feel it's about time we got a 3rd retainer with the basic sub. Especially with another expansion coming in, more crafting materials and items to hoard, a 3rd retainer would be a huge difference to the basic package.
What?
You can't compare a 20 slot backpack, four 32 slot bags, a 224 slot bank, a 98 slot reagent tab, a 160 slot void storage tab, a 784 slot company chest, unlimited glamour storage and up to 10 more alts you can use as storage that you can mail freely, all for free with the basic sub... to ff14's storage.
What game are you comparing it to? all games i know of give more space then FFXIV does.
You have to consider ffxiv puts currencies in your inventory, other games do not do this, FFXIV lacks a glam log, where other games like wow totals around 1000 items you can glam from it. Alts in wow have more meaning, esp with a solo guild chest alt there. In ffxiv, the chest is TINY af, esp when you are doing 4 airships and 4 subs.
Just because other games may have a smaller count in raw number of slots, does not mean they have less inventory. With the excessive item bloat this game has, FFXIV is on the smaller end of inventory space available i am sure, and wow completely dwarfs FFXIV in that regard.
With other games having 1 class per character, and having an easier time to level alt characters, it is a lot easier for other games to claim more inventory space.
NO! do not settle, it SHOULD be 1 free retainer per expansion AT LEAST! so going into 5.0, we should have 5 total free ones, that or start actively trimming down item count.
SE should just get rid of item management from retainers outright and do what other games do, have a real item bank, and allow players buy extra tabs in it, make retainers ventures only, and start handing the MB like every other game. Because this system simply does not work and whats going to happen with 6.0, 7.0? where the endgame crafts there still use items from all other expansions?
Item management in this game is very outdated, even when we are comparing it to the original runescape.
