I'd be perfectly happy with that option too, as long as we had a variety of monsters to choose from.

How would Beastmaster as a Job determine what pet it summons? Would we just have an expansion of the Egi-Glamour system, because honestly I hate that system, it's clunky and not remotely interesting...
I'd much rather see a system where "pet" Jobs have a purely cosmetic item to equip in their offhand slot which determines what pet they summon. So Arcanist gets a Carbuncle Ruby to equip when it learns Summon, and it summons Carbuncle with that equipped (cannot use Summon without something equipped there, the same way Paladin cannot use shield related skills without a shield equipped). Summoner gets access to the Egi through this method (equip the Ifrit item, summon Ifrit-Egi), the same system can be expanded onto Scholar (I'd love Carbuncle on Scholar tbh). Same deal with Machinist, could have various different turrets (Garlean/Allagan/etc.) glamours to equip, even Ninja could get something, a series of scrolls that let you change your Medium from Hellfrog to various other animals (Snake being the one that jumps to mind, but you could have plenty of others). Would be the ideal system for Beastmaster as well IMO, just copy the Familiar/Broths from XI, that game had literally dozens of pets you could summon that way (as well as gaining pets through Charm, but I don't think that would work in XIV). Just think of how much extra content that would add to the game via these Jobs, even if I'm only ever going to use one I'd probably farm all the items just to have them all, it's like an additional glamour endgame for pet Jobs. It's actual content added to the game, rather than this lame macro command to glamour Egi that we currently have... They could be crafted, drops from trials or dungeons, quest rewards, who cares, it would be a great additional reason to do various bits of content IMO, so much more interesting than typing /egiglamour, or /petglamour if they have to expand it for Beastmaster.
we have way to many cosmetic system Ie glamour have actualty beastmaster job where one tame pets and raise them and fight with them would far better. plus we already have so form of beastmaster IE hard mode version hauler breaker
the glamour it a step to far
I think we need acaulty pet system for beastmaster not you glamour pet. you realize that one thing summoner are anger about SE hasn't take time improve summoner or they pets
currently summoner job doesn't really feel like summoner for ff series it need a lot work to improvement
beastmaster job should be pet jobs and should be base on tame working with pets to defeat mobs.
first off summoner is damage deal job not healer job scholar is healer job it focus on healers.
we not tried make game more sand box on summoner and scholar.
summoner is dps scholar is healer these roll aren't exchangeable. have it so you raise and tamed level a pet as beastmaster fight along side you is also fun.
the cool thing about ffxiv is that everyone can be a beastmaster. one could have system where beastmaster tame pet it will level up improve and gain new ability. the way the devs team could solve complex jobs is start it at lvl 1 give a player large lvl time to learn they jobs. this also work with such like puppetmaster too
It would be kind of Cool is Beastmaster could use mounts that they have collected as "companions". Seeing as most of the mounts are based on monsters that are in the game and already have move sets attached to them it doesn't seem to far fetched to make this a reality. Make the Pet the focus of the job with the Beastmaster being there to offer support to the pet and the team... something that Summoner should have done... >.>
my view beastmaster is combine ideal for vanilla wow with concept for ffxi and concept for guild wars 2 stir you have ffxiv beastmaster
beastmaster would
mid-short range melee dps.
beastmaster would have pet system base on size small pets range dps medium pets tiger and coeural melee dps large pets tanks
the way i think beast master could work to give players a wider usage of creatures is if they were the weapon itself, animated to stay by the players side at all times,
sort of keeping with the basic ideas of a hawk / dog to even a monster-ish version for primals having them attack as a physical caster (more akin to how bards were before they regained there run and gun style)
but that's just my idea
remember what Yoshi said in 5.0 we will get a job class that's never been in any FF game someing only we get this was said sometime ago
Until they can improve the net code and mechanics for pet control, a BST is sadly unlikely.
I've a whole write-up on how I'd love to see them implemented, down to the very class quests, but those ideas need responsive play; it can't be mired in the same problems as SMN pets or it'd be DoA.
They'd never make it, the least difficult road to making a job is picking something simple and close to pre-existing ones. So the only way bst would work, and this is what they would do if they did make a non-pet pet class... is to make their attacks work in various wild animals that show up out of the void.
Much like SMN should have been, with you summoning for example ifrit's arm or garuda's wings or something to do an attack out of a void an animal can just show up with certain attacks and attack it in a predefined animation with the animal that does not actually create a npc.
Basically, something like stampede/stomp in wow for their BM spec.
In all honesty, if the devs can't even think up an interesting work around like that it's not surprising they're afraid to make a true pet class or have trouble with their current mistakes with one.
Meanwhile wow has a demon summoning spec that summons like 8 pets, lol.
