Well Balmung has been in several Final Fantasy games so I honestly think most people will be fine with it. I like most of the server names and am fine with the rest. Im on Gungnir now which in my opinion is a pretty cool name although kinda hard to pronounce haha.

Yeah i too like the name of Gungnir the most of all ,
but yet you have to understand that "Haters gonna hate" and that's all.

Look on the lodestone post...the first Old Server name references a town in a FF title, and the new server name represents a weapon from said game.

Selbina = FFXI = Ridill
Rabanastre = FFXII = Durandal
Lindblum = FFIX = Sargatanas
Wutai = FFVII = Masamune
Trabia = FFVIII = Hyperion

I got the fact that the server names use one "important" weapon from one of the games that merged into it, but Sargatanas? Even Zidane's Mage Masher would've been a better choice.

nope mostly the weapon name that they use is the name that's from some legend and mythology

just like Hyperion that's Seifer's Gunblade and also from mythology
in FF IX which weapon that's named after mythology? (only counted sword name)
1.Sargatanas
2.Excalibur(already in used)
3.Masamune(already in used)
4.Ragnarok (already in used)

and that's why they use Sargatanas ,
Sargatanas is the name of demon in mythology which he's the underling of Astaroth

Aegis is a shield in many mythology and appear in many FF series
Gungnir is a spear of odin and appear in my FF sereis
Hyperion is one of 12 titan in greeks mythology and appear to be Seifer's Gunbalde
Ridill is weapon that appears in Norse Mythology, possessed by the dwarf Regin.
Balmung is the name of the sword that Sigurd (Siegfried) used to kill the dragon Fafnir
Durandal is the sword of Charlemagne's paladin Roland in the literary cycle known as the Matter of France. ( appear in FF X , XI , XII )

and yes Sargatanas first appear in FF IX

The additional context people providing to the new sever names is enlightening (all one word sword names of course). I am guessing server 10 with the name Ragnarok might actually draw EU players and players from other timezones to the server. It might not be a problem filling that server at all and it really is the residual of the merge option #4.

IDK.. last time when I made a new character the Saronia server had only 1 chocobo.
Though that was some time ago so I don't know how it's now...
In game I'm too busy with doing leves so I don't really pay attention to what's going on with the others.

Why is everyone hating on Sargatanas? I think it's a badass name. Cool looking weapon from FF9, and it's the name of a Demon lord from Hell...

these new servers will have the same infrastructure of the old ones or they could be considered the famous "new servers" we are waiting for (with the known problems resolved inside)?

Same as the old infrastructure, sadly. The 'server infrastructure' issue is the whole reason of 2.0 to begin with. They need to entirely redo both client and server software to change the way the servers interact with eachother. A server merge is essentially just tossing data from one server to another.

You all don't like Sargatanas? I think it sounds pretty badass but that's just me I guess. I've also got no qualms with Balmung but that's probably mostly due to Balmung of the Azure Sky from .hack//

I had picked Figaro because it was from FFVI, the best Final Fantasy. Even with the server name change, I am still happy. I think Aegis sounds cool and I remember using the shields in FFVI too. Yay!

Hmm... now I need to decide between moving with the rest of my server to Balmung or moving to Ragnarock to match my timezone (GMT).

Question is, previously they labeled the final server as 'recommended for french and german speakers' but now it's EU time zones, I don't want to be stuck on a server on which 90% of the conversation is unreadable to me.

EU peak is over 200, I've never really bothered getting the actual number. I have counted JP prime in the 400-500 range though.

NA peak (east coast) reached an all time low for my observations last week at 136 online at 8pm, down from an average of around 180 for the past month or two. I stopped logging in regularly after that so I can't say if it's gotten worse.

Sargatanas remins me of the Diremite boss in Totorak

It was a mistake, they never wanted this server to be FR/DE only.
Anyway, Fr/De/Sp/Uk and whatever players will always have to use english to play together.

Ragnarok is supposed to be an international server with a good amount of EU players.
