The outposts ARE inns. They're the size of a shed, to be sure, but "The Coffer and Coffin" and "The Red Rooster Stead" are both literally described as inns.

In real life, inns and motels are all over the place, not just in cities. I find it amazing that anyone finds this to be a big deal.

From what I remember you can gain rested XP anywhere in WoW when you log out it just regenerates fasters in a city/Inn.

I see no problem with this, of course you will always get that group of people who think this is easy mode.

We still have 49 levels to be added yet so I wouldn't get too bent out of shape.

Inns can be used free of charge, and provide the following functions.

This is the SE community we're talking about. "Time" equates "Challenge" for some oddball reason. Wasting an extra two minutes doing literally nothing but running to an inn is "challenge", and if you don't want to do that, you're an easymode casual.

It's not that SE can't seem to differentiate between a good time sink and a bad, or isn't doing a good job of hiding timesinks (the job of any MMO company), or is simply failing to meet/understand the standards set by other top tier MMOs do, it's that *you're bad* because you'd rather play the game than do pointless running prior to every logout.

As a side note, what's the point of empty, uncustomizable rooms anyway? I really think they just needed an excuse to keep them from being almost entirely worthless. You know, they can now claim "player residences" due to cut-scene viewing and rested EXP, even though there's almost no point to them.

People go home to rest, or hotels, or inns etc.

IMO it seems like they are trying to implement as many player amenities/quality of life type stuff as they possibly can in the current engine (which is muuuch appreciated). Methinks that they need an area for the engine to recognize "you are in an area that gives you rested XP" because it might not be able to recognize those types of "boundaries" in the open world... if that makes sense. I'd rather not wait till 2.0 for the rested XP to be implemented and this was probably the most immediate solution.

The inns in the cities are meant to be used by players before they obtain a full on residence, which will take time and work to obtain, unlike the inns, which require minimal effort to gain access to. While it is mostly a pre-2.0 accomodation, it has a purpose even in the grand scheme of things.

Actually, no, even though my usage of caps could lead one to believe that. I honestly feel that if you want rested EXP, you should run to an Inn. If you don't care, log out wherever.

I will always be in an Inn when I go to bed.

That can't be true, as the previous team had fatigue, one would cancel the other out.

Yea it's also taken this long for rested XP to be implemented, unless you are simply talking about the rooms themselves being leftovers from the old devs.

I like the idea of making settlements more useful (right now aside from achievements/escorts/etc they seem pointless), so making them into inns is a good idea. However they should not offer as much EXP as say, a City-State does. Perhaps if a city-state is 2x exp, a settlement can be 1.4x exp or something.

But yeah, I'm all for settlements getting more usage. Minigames and such would be nice as well.

We are planning on adding the rested bonus in camping areas that are located close to aetherytes. And for those who may be curious, the rested bonus will not be accumulated while crafting.

Hi Rukkirii,

Nice! :) What would be a nice touch (but super low priority) would be if we log out near a Camp in the valid Resting Bonus area, that our characters throw out a futon or sleeping bag and go to sleep. :) (or the FF XIV equivalent ;) )

Sleeping Bags and Tents are classic FF tools that would be perfect for this (maybe created by DoH?)

It's a perfect opportunity to infuse a bit more FF nostalgia into the game. :)

Heh, The thought had occurred to me as well... But tents could be made by Parchment (Tanner) using Wooden Poles and Stakes (Carpenter)

Just as a follow up, we're not thinking about making these expanded rest areas limited to Aetheryte camps as the concept behind the camps may change slightly in version 2.0. We'll let you know when we have more information to share!

Aren't these camps becoming a bit more elaborate than just a little tent that couldn't possibly be home to a full mercinary force?

They should make it so that your Free Company can rent certain camps, and receive certain perks for having current ownership.

This is the way I see it.

Adding the ability for people to get rested xp at that many more locations outside the city would have the effect of de-centralizing the community as people would be spread out all over the place. It would reinforce the concept that "cities are nothing but big quest hubs", which is a big part of why community has suffered so much in other MMOs.

Also, does that mean they'd have to implement instanced inn-rooms at every single one of those locations? I mean, the concept of rested xp in FFXIV comes in the context of going to a private Inn Room, with a bed and the ability to store and retrieve items, etc. Standing or sitting out in the open for hours, with other people milling around, talking, etc.. wouldn't be particularly restful.

Ultimately, what I see in this thread - especially since references to WoW (the reigning king of "convenience > all else" design) were brought into it - is basically a request for more convenience to be added to the game, with a rationale that's dubious at best; that being the use of "Inn". An Inn can also simply be a Tavern. I've been to places that had "Inn" in their name and did not have rooms or beds to rest in. A road-side rest-stop could be called "The Roadside Inn", and not have a single room or bed for rent.

I don't think the idea would be "horrible" or "game breaking". I just find it to be rather unnecessary. I'd be more interested in seeing SE expand on the use/functionality of the Inns we already have.

I find it amazing that you don't consider it at all illogical that what you yourself describe as "the size of a shed" would be sufficient for any number of people to sleep/rest in feasibly.

You note standing near it... but then that goes back to what I said in my last post. It makes no sense to say you're getting rest when you're standing or at best, sitting, amongst a bunch of other people milling about, chocobos and goobues stomping around, people engaged in battle nearby, inclement weather, and all that goes with being out in the open.

It's always funny how people will selectively apply logic to their arguments where it suits them, but then dismiss it where it doesn't. You argue quite sternly that "Inn" must mean "a place to rest"; seriously relying on semantics to carry your argument. But then, in the next breath, you ignore or dismiss the extremely unlikely nature of the scenario you put forth of people resting by "standing near a small shed", amongst all the ruckus I describe above.

Again, this suggestion seems to me to be made entirely in the name of convenience; for someone to have what they want where and when they want it. It's not addressing any "problem" that needs solving. It's purely a case of "SE should do more so I can do less".

Why is it a big deal to spend a few moments to Return to a city Inn and log out, then teleport back out to an aetheryte camp? If it's a camp you intend to spend a lot of time at, register it as a favored location and voila.. only 2 or 3 points to get there. Problem solved.

I think the suggestion in the OP is a fair one. It would make the world feel a bit more real. I don't think there would be any danger of this being detrimental to the way the major cities function as a player hub, especially if it wasn't possible to set your home point at them.

Some people say turning these places into inns where you can get rested is easymode, but I don't think that makes a lot of sense. What's the most convenient/easymode, mainmenu->return->CityInn or jumping on your chocobo and actually ride to the nearest inn? If you ask me, small inns scattered around the world is *less* convenient in exchange for saving some anima (return is free, of course, but if you want to continue what you were doing the next day, you'd need to spend anima to get back out there).

I'd love to be able to have an inn room at the Red Rooster stead. Don't think it's easymode, either. Easymode already happened - now I have two return points - one to an aetheryte camp and one at uldah. Before that I would have had to waste anima on going to where the players are. Why not change the second return point to a smaller town or a farm community? It fits the lore too and small-town inns are present in Final Fantasy games. If I traveled seventy miles from Uldah to a town in the middle of nowhere I'm not going to travel seventy miles back just to sleep anima or not.
