i'm sorry but i asked for a server mergre not a server F**k about they didnt give us what we wanted lmao... Hence y i'm and yapping they said they will give us a mergre and they didnt there giving us crap of a stick
Now I can switch servers to where my other gamer friends are on now. I really wish the servers had FF games.
The point is that simply merging servers isn't as effective as forced merges w/ optional selection and data wipes.
SE wants to stimulate the social aspect of ffxiv. As it stands now the majority of servers have cliques which isolate themselves in the pretense of larger LSes for greater gain. Looking at this from a different perspective instead of just being angry, you realize that SE is attempting to refresh the social geography pre 2.0. That way the new incoming playerbase has less chance of struggling within an entire server preconditioned with isolated elitists.
It is a form of leveling the playing field so to speak.
Common sense right here. I love it! Just one problem. It seems like common sense is forbidden around these parts.
Realistically, though, do you think it won't just go back to the way it is now, just with more people running around?
Yeah, this is a horrible way to do it I love the people in Besaid how hard would it have been to merge current servers 2,3,6 into new server 1 and current server 1,4,7 into server 2, based on server population of course. Now I have one linkshell that wants to setup on server 7 and another that is going else where... Nooooooooooo! That is horrible.
If SE can't do it right we should someone make a post on here that shows everyone a road map to goto. i.e. all of besaid join server 1 or something like that.
SE, "Take one step forward, then take two steps back."
How's this for sense.
We are all going to have to rechoose servers for 2.0, that is a fact (see letter from the producer XXIV, 5th-4th to last paragraphs).
It would be disasterous (even more so because it is 2.0) if a system to rechoose servers is not implemented properly.
They now have the perfect opportunity test a system and iron out all the flaw before the big 2.0 crunch.
Realistically when you look at FFXI 2002-2006 everyone mingled with each other while keeping their own little cliques because not always could you really party or play with them for various reasons so you chatted a bit and found more people to play with.
In XIV, people don''t even try to mingle or socialize, a problem more apparent with a lack of people, more people = more socialization so no it won't happen unless SE goes the wrong route and continue making things soloable through and through which is what created the problem to begin with.
Agreed, it doesn't help players prepare for the merge if World 7 becomes "Besaid" two weeks later. In fact it probably complicates things further by releasing names at a later date, when shells have already made plans on said world but it no longer exists.
And scattering inactive friends waiting it out till 2.0 upsets me to no end as well. I'll be content if they allow them the option to transfer to a world of their choosing without being active (at least that way we can still see our friends when they come back), but we would really need all of the information on the merge NOW so we can get into contact with them off-game and get them prepared for the merge as well.
In the end I am a bit disappointed that SE didn't take the same route as in FFXI and just merge the lowest/higher populated servers, they could still rename servers to whatever they wanted and give players the option to voluntarily move to another server to even out the populace more, but in the end a majority of inactive players would still be together on the same server and could get back into contact with each other when they came back, unless the shell up and moved altogether.
If we have to do this server merge please just do a normal merge, don't disrupt the community.
The way it was presented to us forces us to choose between friends, no doubt about it people are going to be separated by this poor system many of them not interested in returning to a game without their friends.
Just give me one reason why this merge system is in any way better then a normal merge.
SE you have the numbers of active accounts per server i'm sure it's not hard to add those up.
It doesn't force you to choose between friends.
-picks up the phone and calls up friends- "Hey, due to the nature of server transfer style merges, lets select new world 2."
-Loads up MSN/AIM/Yahoo/Meebo/Otherchatprogramhere- "For the linkshell, lets contact all members/make a post detailing we'll be moving to new world 2"
Why would you have to choose between friends? You can easily coordinate where to go unless of course said friends are only FFXIV friends and you never bothered to make outside communication a means of contact.
I have more then 1 friend in this game, so yes it forces ppl to choose, I will type it out for you in a scenario with just 2 friends:
I am in LS-A one of my friends is in LS-B and a other in LS-C
LS-A is going to Server-1
LS-B is going to Server-2
LS-C is going to Server-3
But wait I want to be with my friends so I will go to Server 2 also
LS-A is going to Server-2
LS-B is going to Server-2
LS-C is going to Server-3
Oh but now my other friend is on server 3 explain me how that is NOT choosing between your friends?
And I kept this scenario for your simple with only 2 friends, not even mentioning friends of friends.
I look forward to meeting you my new future friends, to exploring with new people, and all the rest. I like fresh. I like that I don't have to stay on a populated server while a unpopulated one is forced in our server while we hiss like cats looking for a dominance over each other in a new home. Consider yourself on a Beta that allows you to keep your work. that's nice, isn't it? I like it very much. I hope 2.0 does the same tbh.
Here's the problem: Even if the majority of the server agrees to pick a specific number, the more people you tell about it the less likely you and your friends will have a chance to get in.
I could tell everyone on my server to join #2, and maybe I will see most of them there. But my best friend might not be let in because he didn't sign up right away due to work/school/vacation whatever.
I also have friends that want to come back to the game when 2.0 hits, but only if they have an LS come back home to. If the server merges scatter those accounts around randomly, then those players are likely to never come back at all.
The server merge should be a two-step process:
1) There should be a default server merge that allows existing communities and returning players to stay together. This can easily be done by merging an existing high population server with a low population server.
2) Players should be given a one-time only option to change servers after this initial merger via some kind of reservation system. This is to ensure that if one LS wants to change servers together, everyone could "make a reservation" and be certain that the new server has enough room to accept every member before making the jump.
SE says they are doing these server merges to satisfy the existing playerbase. They shouldn't splinter the community in the process. Forcing people to mingle with strangers will not work with the game the way it is. It only works when the game is new, or when a massive influx of people join (2.0).
I sincerely hope they give us some LS administration tools before this server merge takes place, whatever they decide to do. If I have to track down every single person on foot to re-pearl people then I give up.
Throwing 2 servers into 1 server does not solve the issue of EU players being scattered across servers.
It only make the problem smaller.
Not a solution that is fair to EU players; They are people too.
It's not about the individual, it's about the entire population.
It might not be fun, or "easy", but it is fair even though people can't realize that currently because they are hurt by the merge and trying everything they possibly can to stop the current method....which will not solve the problem with the EU community...
>_>
Hope it makes sense.
If EU guys wanna play together then fair play to them if they mergre the servers and let us decide after they mergre the server to pick one fo the 10 servers if we decide we still want to get out of the server. This will shout everyone up and solve so many problems all the EU players can beat of into 1 server if they wanted.
Plus choosing now donest mean let's say world 6 is going to be full with just EU guys, most people play this game to play with people from all around the world just not from around them, if they wanted to play with people around them they would go outside and play with them in RL.
I guess that could work.
However; it's still about being 100% fair.
Even if EU players choose to scatter themselves again, they had the choice to group up. Just like we have the same choice.
It's a crude way to look at it, but I believe this is what SE was thinking.
yea i no what there trying to do and it is a gd idea but there just doing it the wrong way >< trying to get everyone to play with new people and more EU people together more JP's together and so on.
They wanted to try something new i guess as well just to see how we would react, i will admit most of us inculding my self has over reacted about the whole thing, but at the end of the day it's like moving house you going to leave all you're friends or/and family (linkshell).
Throwing in my voice for this one. I find the current planned method to be completely ridiculous and all it will serve to do will be to break up linkshells and friendships.
Hold on a sec. If the servers are large enough to support a forced 2 world merge, I think they are large enough for this guy to tell everyone on his server to move to a specific one, and have room enough for everyone to get it. I think most of you are SERIOUSLY overestimating how many people are actually playing this game right now. Are there enough people to fill up a server, probably, but I wouldnt think there is enough right now to completely fill 2 or 3. This notion that certain servers (that have no names right now mind you!) are going to fill up right away is absurd. The player base (myself included) actually has ZERO idea what max capacity is for a single server , just like most of us dont have any idea how many people are left playing now that they have started charging.
This has to be the first time in the history of my life I have ever heard of a bunch of people crying about being given the freedom to choose something for themselves instead of being forced to do something without being asked in advance. Absolutely amazing.
Also, your default server merge does absolutly ZERO to help the minority of European players that aren't enjoying the game as much because they arent playing with enough people that speak their language. If they force moved everyone, and then let people do a one time move, you would still have unbalanced issues as well as people trying to move to a server with friends where not everyone gets in. Also, as sad as it is to say, we have been asking for LS admin tools since the second month of the games release. Its not gonna happen anytime soon. (and i HATE it!)
