for once I wish SE post the time in GMT as well and now only PST duh -.-"
I've got a close friend who can't play right now because of real life issues. She came back before the game went pay to play and had to disappear after. It's not that she doesn't want to pay, but it's hard when you're moving between places and trying to get back on your feet. She told me before that I was one of the reasons she kept playing this game. And now thanks to a stupid decision like this if she can't get back before the end of next month she's going to be shipped off to a random world. A one in ten chance she'll land on the same server as I'm on. This happens, she probably won't be playing anymore.
A decision like this hurts a lot of business. Who's really going to return to a server where they don't even know anyone because all their friends are off on another server? It's not that everyone out there does feel the game isn't worth the money, some do, some don't. Some can't afford it or have IRL priorities that come first. Still, this news is pretty much forcing people to pay for the game right now even if they don't want to, or risk being thrown into a random server and pray it's the same one as your friends. If people were going to wait to come back to I can almost guarantee that this will make sure they don't return ever.
Please help me understand. If your friends are not worth 10 dollars are they really your friends?
Don't know what to tell you.
People who aren't playing(Thus not paying) don't get to decide what they do with their inactive data.
I saw nowhere in the announcement that there would be a limit to any particular server so I don't think the "full server" issue applies here like it did when the game launched.
I also find it hard to fathom that there would be NO options down the road for people who do come back for 2.0.
That would be terribly short sighted on SE's part; I also think it's terribly short sighted on the community's part to think that there wouldn't be options down the line considering the fact that new worlds will be created for 2.0 in the event of a large influx of subs. Server transfer's for a fee would not be out of the realm of possibility and is considered a standard now a days.
Freaking out now does nothing.
I don't know why people think that they're going to be split from their friends forever. There's a ton of options to get you guys together in the future when your friend decides to play again.
Everyone who knows me, follow me. I'm too lazy to follow everyone I know.
Well...won't we be transferred again to New Servers come v 2.0 and I presume the population restrictions will be lifted then so missing friends and LS members still may have a chance to find you.
Remember that this merger is just to increase populations for current subscribers in order to make partying easier, improve the Markets/Economies and presumably create a fuller gaming experience for paying customers.
not even server names lolhttp://www.theunnecesarean.com/stora...=1254260600960
Distributing people who have not decided is the worst possible decision. More than half of our Linkshell is currently inactive, most of them are just waiting for 2.0 and most of them have high level jobs. You are just gonna make them redo all that ? That's gonna make the decision for them not to play again much easier to make. Or there should be a way after to merge to still switch servers.
I think the best way is for each server to have a default 'new' server, this way if no new world has been decided, everyone just transfers to the default one, keeping groups together instead of randomly scattering them across worlds destroying their (leveling-)work so easily. I really hope you reconsider this, not just for the LS, but also for the social contacts you're going to break.

This is just the initial merge. SE has only revealed how they are going about handling the current population.
Their is still "the future" where SE can allow server transfers for existing or returning players. For those of you with friends who are on hiatus, or waiting for ver 2.0 there may still be hope for them down the road.
yes it would have been nice if SE had a more robust description of how they plan to handle returning players. But I'm sure they haven't discounted them entirely, those accounts don't pertain to the current matter at hand: "Present Player Population"
It's really difficult to get low level parties together because everyone's with their friends at L50. I'm not setting myself up for disappointment (since it might not exactly fix that issue) but I'm excited for the possibility of seeing a more lively, lower level community.
Great news. Thanks SE!
Why couldn't they just take servers with the lowest amount of people and just merge them like in 11? This seems overly convoluted and unnecessary.
I don't get what the fuss is about. Just talk to your friends and go to the same server. ...
If they aren't playing now... well.. i wouldn't count on it anyway :p
Yes, it's all well and good for my current active ls members. We can talk and figure out where our new home is.
But I have a couple close friends I've made over the months, one is off at boot camp and the other is having some medical issues. Both of them won't be around for the merge, and even though they'll be back soon, they'll get tossed to some random server!
Seriously, wtf SE? Either merge a server into another one, or allow returning players to choose. Don't auto kick them to randomness.
Hmmm...you got me thinking (dangerous I know). Maybe we the community could categorize the Worlds before we transfer, ie.
#1-3 Worlds are for peeps with maxed out 50's on everything.
#4-6 Worlds are for peeps with multiple 1's/Low Levels.
#7 World is for Role Players.
#8 is for Solo Players and RMT. ;>P
#9 World is Limbo for all the peeps who didn't choose in time.
#10 is the Unofficial Non-English Speaking Server.
I would choose #5 myself (I still have plenty of Low Levels) if anyone cares to join me or wants to avoid me.
I don't know how they could possibly have done this in a worse way.
You suck Square Enix. Way to show that you know absolutely nothing about what the majority of MMO players play for (friends/linkshells/community).
i picked my server selbina cause i had attachments to the name. wtf SE. The jp are saying the exact same thing >.>
I don't understand? Why not tell all of your /friendlist to go to the same World? Seems like people are overreacting? If a world fills up, remember what SE said, you can STILL CHANGE your choice before switches occur. If a world fills up, merely tell your /friendlist that you can't get on, and have everyone apply to another, less populated server. EASY! :D
Kira, it's bad for those players not present at time of merge. They'll get put in some random server, thus losing friends.
Because:
They don't all play right now, but are taking a break.
Maybe you have 2 friends, and so this is easy for you but some of us find the idea of coordinating everyone we like to play with onto one server especially when they are randomized to be absurd.
This is beyond even just offering server transfers, this is dumping everyone off of their server and saying "pick a number, and if you don't we are going to pick one for you".
They are destroying communities, and maybe yours sucks. But I like my linkshells and Selbina. They should have just merged the crappy servers into the better ones and then let the anti-socials/trolls/outcasts opt for a server transfer.
No, no, no no no. The community is not overreacting. You really think you can get ALL your friends to get onto same server? That maybe true. What about your friend's friends? Your friends' friends' friends? Your friend's or your JP friends? And what about THEIR friends? Your friends that are not currently playing? I dont think so.... certainly not all of mine.
If you think all is good and great that you cannot be anymore naive. No matter who you are this will effect you severely as ties will be broken by SE regardless of who you are.
I want to be on Selbina again, I hope its not completely random about oh pick server 1 IT TURNED INTO PALMECIA TROLOLOLOLOLOLOL. I'd cry from being on such a lame named server imho. Plus this kinda sucks for those people who are like "oh i'll come back later" if they do decide to come back they'll just be on some random server.
Why not just merge 2 servers in to 1 or something like that? like in FFXI you lost no one just meet new people, I have 8 linkshells there is now way I meet all my friends after merge... You SE just force me to choice with who I go and I don't like it MMORPG is all about play with friends... now I lost people who I know long time. Bad idea.
You know what? You are right. I am going to go call my real friends right now and tell them that they'd better get over the recent death in their family right now and pay up to play because friendship via playing a game is far more important that grieving. Screw their expectations upon cancelling that they would be able to come back to their playing friends after they had everything sorted.
Make space in Cornelia for me and my buds :)
We comming to break the horns off your mobs over there.
Hope the A-holes from my server dont choose Cornelia aswell and apply in every single
linkshell over there too........ have like 247 linkshells lol.
It seems needlessly over complicated and really screws over people on break. Not sure why they couldn't just stick to servers together and call it done.
