Yeah, um....nah, too easy.
Worst for me was a forum sig referencing the director of FFXV describing a particular term he coined to describe a major obstacle he felt that his team faced. Definitely worth reading about.
VanilleFang was banned for a joke thread. They posted an incredibly small portion of their own fflogs page in a screenshot - literally just their 100% run as a WHM on the last boss in Rabanastre. The caption was something like "look what Holy did!" and that was it. It was a cute lol and a nice thing to congratulate.
I was there in that run - everyone was really positive, there was nothing bad in the run or in the post Vanille made but they were literally banned for just the screenshot. It didn't show anyome's name, it didn't prove anything other than at least 1 of the 24 people in that run was parsing and it didn't shame anyone.
Yes, the moderation here is trigger happy.
Im afraid to talk about it but ... well..
The real problem is the moderators seem to ban who they choose and aren't consistent at all with the reason they ban people. I was banned on my mains forum account and when I tried to appeal I got 0 answer to it. It's pretty pathetic that THIS forums moderators don't get how gamers are when it comes to the forums. Even WoW is more laid back in their forums.
Something needs to be done about these moderators, they are so trigger happy that anyone that has the smallest of disputes and argues gets banned. Post negatively about SE (more aggressive that most) banned, one cuss word banned, these forums should be renamed to carebear land because that's how these mods want them. They don't even read the posts half the time, just banhammer without reading or understanding the context of the post!
Hell, i'm probably gonna get banned for this post, and if I do I'm prolly gonna cancel all three of my accounts and just move on and I've been paying them and playing since 1.0.....
Yea, my main account was banned from the forums for saying "a**" (rhymes with sass) literally why. So dont sit and pretend you know this isnt a daycare center, when it is.
This is exactly what happened to me
These moderators seem to try to carebear too much.
There is no way to block anyone on these forums....unless they get perma banned... lol
This is a gaming forum, and unfortunately the options available to us are slim to none. We have a character limit that we all bypass with edits (makes no sense), no way to message others on the forums, no way to BLOCK others on the forums, and LITERALLY 0 COMMUNICATION FROM THE MODERATORS EVER. (unless you've been banned) It's sad
Oh, damn. And I thought she deleted it to avoid issues with the community in general. That's sad. :(
I strongly disagree with the ban policies in this forum. They are far too strict and exaggerated. Did you throw an "F" word? Bam! 10 non-paid days of vacations, leading to a perma-ban in some cases. This hurts the community and it doesn't help anyone to improve. You can't even appeal it succesfully. You're silencing your customers! Forums are a way to voice opinions, complaints give ideas, share information and help other players. I honestly feel that the moderation rules should be addressed accordingly.
I used to work in a private RO server as a GM and community moderator, about 3k+ players on and a very active forum board. We had a "warn" system, where we would contact the user directly, quoting the "infraction" and asking them to not repeat the offense. In some cases, that would lead to a 24hrs ban, 3 days ban, 5 days ban. Extreme cases would lead to a permaban. Or if the user accumulated a crazy amount of warns and always under the staff's discretion.
I know someone who was banned for defending the cashshop. :/ People make me confused indeed.
For the person who asked before, no there's no official way to request a ban appeal, once they ban you you can't do anything about it even if it's a wrongful ban, an in game GM can explain to you the reason of the ban but (as per said GMs) there's no procedure to reverse a ban.
It's practically the opposite of maturity expecting everyone else to filter them out. It's the same idea with the mature language filter in most games, it's not an excuse to be a sailor. If you don't want to use tact, don't be surprised at the results. This isn't a new concept, much like feigning innocence.
The fact that its so easy to get banned both here and in game hasn't gone unnoticed by players. There are a prolific couple on my server who encourage and taunt people into shout chat fights in attempts to report them and get them banned. Over hunts, no less. It's almost a game now. First one to slip up gets their account taken off them. No matter how long they've played, the communities they run, the passion they have for the game. One 'naughty' word to the wrong person and bam. All gone. The GM's / Mods don't care.
It's pretty awful :/
No? Why would I interview anyone? What a weird question.
If you're asking how I know that they purposefully try to taunt others into bans, I'd rather not say. It wasn't discussed in game and therefore nothing can be done about it.
If you're asking if I interview people, then no, I don't. .... ?
This would be far more effective if it actually hid the posts of people you placed on your ignore list. Instead you get a nice box that says "This post is hidden because X is on your ignore list--SHOW POST".
That being said, I am surprised at the types of people who get permabanned (and what got them banned), yet there are others here that I have seen be continual trouble-makers that go unpunished: cause drama in threads, derail them intentionally, ad hominem like it's going out of style, and are just flat out hostile for zero reason. Too much inconsistency in rule enforcement.
I think they have to be reported. A lot of the bans are handed out because the troublemakers report, but the regulars don't, because they don't really care about getting someone banned. I would only ever report someone for discrimination or harassment, maybe some heavy insults. Normal insults and the like aren't worth getting up in arms about to me.
I know of one of these types posts that was reported by quite a few people (myself included) that still stands to this day. I rarely ever bother to use the report function, even when people are being directly hostile towards me, but the one that was reported was just completely uncalled for, and was taking away from the original intention of an innocent thread in a crudsade to start drama over something entirely unrelated to it.
To play devil's advocate, I was a moderator for the official forums for a different MMO, and the moderation was too lax to the point where the forums became a cesspool of trolling. Although that had more to do with the community itself (lots of little edgelords, like jeez), and the moderators could only remove posts and handle other general duties such as changing thread titles/moving threads to different sections. Only actual game staff could ban people from the forums, and only if one of us recommended it with an explanation as to why. Not to mention that 90% of people who actually got banned usually just made alt accounts practically proudly announcing that they've circumventing the ban. Of course, the last isn't an issue at this forum since there's pretty much a paywall to post here.
Also, fun fact: 2/4 of the moderators from said MMO got banned from -this- forum. Of the four, I'm the only active participant, the last doesn't post at all due to this forum's reputation. One thing I've noted is that a significant number of the bans that I've observed hitting other people here only makes sense without proper context.
It is quite sad when you find out good people have been banned, while people that should have been banned ages ago are still here.
Reading this thread makes me glad I've held my tongue some times in other threads. Some of the reasons for these bans are inquisition levels of beyond the pale. I say this as a former moderator of some forums for a small video game music remix project back in the super early 2000's. It was not huge, but I was also one of only two mods, at least that I can remember now, apart from the musicians who were running/contributing to the project. In all my time there I banned exactly one dude and hated it. I had to because his outbursts were angry and hateful, on a silly "Random Thoughts" forum that was literally there just for ridiculous fun threads. I hated it because he had mental problems and I knew it wasn't the real him. I say all this because I cannot imagine, as bad as I felt about that, being the kind of mod that would ban people who were being supportive and helpful but just using bad language, or accidentally breaking rules you didn't know about but couldn't fix because of terrible forum functionality. You could certainly change your own titles on the board I modded in 2001. I can't conceive how it wasn't a day one feature here. It's frustrating to learn all this, for sure. And it's more frustrating to realize that nothing will likely change, because we're dealing with a corporation with set rules. They're not known for bothering with human judgment very often, unfortunately. :(
Not a weird question when you claim to know of a prolific duo who taunts people in the attempt to get others banned. You stated that the first one to slip up gets their account taken away, so it would seem you must follow through with everyone who has been part of these shouting matches.
However, you mentioned you don't, so let's try and stick with things we can actually prove versus fluffing up stories.
It would be nice if they were as trigger-happy about ToS violations in-game as they are on the forums.
It's pretty stupid that people are allowed to get away things like content selling for real money in the PF on a regular basis.
If they were as trigger happy ingame as here, Kage, the game would have almost no players due to mass banning over suspected parsing lol
They'd also probably ban the botters that regularly get report spammed by people simply on the assumption that they must be doing something wrong to warrant such behavior, so I'd be cool with that.
Anywhere from 1 to 3. I got 2. Bans can overlap as well. So if you're in a midst of one ban, you'll get another and eventually it equals complete termination.
Not only that, you can even join forum events such as Design votes. At the very least we should be able to Like things...but you're barred for good.
Just going off by what others said as far the others.
Being on these forums are like having the skin ripped off the soles of yer feet and walking on poisoned-coated, nettled infested eggshells.
I mean they are so damn strict on these here forums, but you got people telling others to literally kill themselves in the game some times
or just purely being a jerk nugget. Also as far as P/G stuff...hmm, well the game has Prostitution, child labour, killing people and other stuff.
But hooo boy, you said the F word just because on the forums? Adios!
Spend way too much time here playing Forum Hero to do anything about in-game problems though. :eyes:
So you come to the forums with an anecdotal story about a friend being banned, one that you cannot provide details about, but then blow it up to try and make it sound like it's happening all the time on your server. Got it.
And now becuase I don't agree with you regarding "mass bannings" being out of control, and questioned a story you provided (which seems to be falling apart), I'm suddenly on my high horse?. If you have to resort to insults, claiming that I'm on my high horse, implying I think I'm super important, going on about Balmung being gossip-city, it would seem you have no interest in an actual conversation at this point.
It is an ancedotal story, yes, because I won't give personal details about it which I've explained to you now, twice. Like I said, I understand that you want facts so you can point and say "they deserve it" but no matter how much you harrass me, I will not give you names or details so you can start a witch hunt or "judge" if they deserved a ban. Also, I haven't blown anything up. You're the one repeatedly asking for more gossip. Of course its easy to sit back and say Ha! you won't tell me what I want to know! Therefore you're wrong!
You didn't answer my question. Are you asking everyone in this thread about their ancedotal stories? Or have you just picked mine to start a fight over.
To answer your question, I'm not needing stories from everyone in the thread. No one else has made crazy claims about a prolific couple that antagonizes people in shout chats in an attempt to get people banned, where the first person to slip up gets banned. That sounds like a rather iffy situation! You were asking for someone to question that. And then when someone dares question you, you go on the attack. You don't win points that way.
I do not appreciate people who fabricate or embellish stories to try and make a point.
*rides off into sunset on my high horse*
Calm down. I'm from Rockettes server. I know exactly who he/she is talking about. Anyone that has been vaguely involved in the hunt scene does.
Obviously no one can give names out on the forums without getting banned. No one can answer your "interview questions" without it being called slander. You cannot call someone a liar when they cannot post against the rules of the forums. Especially in a thread about getting banned over trivial reasons.
To contribute to the topic at hand: I was banned for 2 weeks for calling an obvious troll an idiot after they were jumping from thread to thread posting ridiculous stuff. Sure, its against the rules. Was it worth 2 weeks? I don't know. But I don't post here as much if I don't have anything to say that isn't completely game related / bug reporting. Not worth it.
Oh cheers, back-up! I'm also perfectly calm, more amused by this "conversation" than anything at this point.
So what you and Rockette both seem to be missing, is my question about interviewing everyone was to question the validity of this comment:
Based on the wording, it would seem many people have been banned from this particular act. When I questioned it, they eventually confirmed it was just one person, a friend. I never once asked for names, and I honestly do not care for them, I don't get why this is even a concern?
Perhaps there is a problem on Behemoth with people doing this, but it's probably best to not make grand claims and speak in absolutes when trying to make a point that you have absolutely no way of backing up.
You asked for details to prove the story which would involve names. I don't believe that OP is making grand claims knowing what I know about that hunt community in particular. It seems right on the nose.
It seems you are taking a personal issue with OP in particular in order to keyboard warrior a forum fight.
Anyways, I don't want to post here anymore. Feels risky. Good luck with your high horse in the sunset.
Well just try to follow the guidelines. I am very passionate when it comes to certain decisions the so called "localization team" has made over the years, specifically the translation of the BLM spells. I try my best to give my opinion in a respectful tone but its difficult. I never gave up on FFXIV. I started on September 22, 2010, I stuck it out when Yoshi-p took over and if it wasn't for the option to switch to the native version of FFXIV I would be gone. Not that they really care, at least the localization team but I digress. Just stick to the forum guidelines.
It was a simple question if those supposedly out of control bans were actually confirmed or just "i saw it on the internet!". Don't try to extrapolate the situation to strangers you've never bothered to ask. There's nothing personal about saying your friend was banned. If that's your only point of confirmation it would make it harder to damn SE over it though, not even getting into bias. They could've done anything else you don't know about that brought it on instead of this shouting match.
I just got a 10 day ban finished. My first offense ever on the forums. A person was bashing the group he was in, insulting anyone who didn't feel bad for him. He attacked the tank, he attacked the healer, and said "not like I needed his healing I'm a rdm" so in the account he said the whm, pulled him into a pack of mobs to teach him a lesson. He refused to say what his part was up until that and was crying for skill to be removed.
All I said was his attitude was likely the reason it happen. (I actually said him acting like a pr*ck may have had something to do with it) he cried and reported me
Eh. I mean unfortunately yours and Tigerlilleys were probably straight up rule breaking (name calling). Yeah, the bans are heavy handed here I think everyone knows that. But rules are rules.
I think the ones I really wanted to address by this thread were the historical beta ones that stung a lot of people as well as those who have received multiple bans for the same post. In that reddit thread, someone said they've been forum banned from day one without posting. I hoped to address that the customer support here has often left players high and dry.
I think there needs to be a little more visability of the mod team here so things can be communicated properly and/or appealed if they were questionable bans in the first place (eg the person who got himself banned on accident).
So you chose to resort to name calling, which is clearly against the forum rules, instead of simply saying you thought his attitude might be related to what he experienced. You earned the ban through your own actions.
It may not have even been the OP or others posting in the thread that reported you. Anyone reading the thread could have done it. But you're going to attack the OP of that thread because you don't want to take responsibility for your own actions and need someone else to blame.
This is SE's house and they set the rules. They aren't hard rules to follow. It just takes a moment to read through what you've typed and ask yourself "Is this something that I really should be saying" before hitting that post reply button. If you're finding it difficult to stay within the rules, then you should reconsider posting here. This isn't a teenage social media app where you can say anything you want and suffer no consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fpwmu/ Yup, consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fieal/ Oopsies, accidentally criticized Square. Gotta have them consequences.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fihpl/ Banned four times for the exact same instance of an offense. Gotta face those consequences hard.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post4703717 Two strikes, you're permabanned.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1fhoux/ Hmmm...
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...orums/d1g07cm/ Oops, criticized Square again.
That brings to mind a thought. If so many people got perma'd for offensive language, why do we... Not have an offensive language filter like a normal forum?
Then again, I suppose a normal forum wouldn't have a 1,000 character limit when posting either.
The ease of getting banned on these forums has resulted in a lack of centralized for ffxiv related theory crafting, as to properly look into how the damage formula works or the intricacies of how actions interact needs the amount of information that to can only gather from bug abuse (ie bane bug), third party tools (act and other network parsers) or datamining. The ease of getting banned for mentioning these things discourages any proper discussion on the forums about bis selection and drives it off to other sites that aren't as conductive for discussions like reddit, and now discord.
To be honest, this place is a small part of the community. Most players go elsewhere to discuss the game. While bans are frustrating, the loss of being able to talk here is not major. I can only say the only downside is being unable to report bugs on the forums, but you can do that in game too.
