Like i said it's limited to 60FPS already in the game. Thanks for taking the time to let us know that this was escalated.

Still having the freezing, stuttering issue. Had no other programs running except FFXIV, game crashed twice today, while running Ridorina, game kept freezing for a few seconds, I was expecting a crash but luckily I didn't, but by the time I was on the final boss, he was invisible to me lol. I checked the GPU and it was maxing out like crazy, even thou im only running FFXIV and at DX9. I took several screenshots but none of them went to the screenshot folder. The final boss Yiazmat, was invisible, the only thing I can see is his heart.
This has happened before during hunts at stormblood areas, stuttering freezing occurs, but the game doesn't crash, then suddenly the hunt mob is invisible, the only thing I can see is his name.
I rolled back my Nvidia Graphics card drivers, its now using the drivers installed on May 7th. Hopefully that fixes it xD.
Hello RareItems, Thank you for your response.
If rolling back the drivers does not seem to work. I would like to suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the game.
Based on the information provided, we have come to the conclusion that a complete reinstall of the game may be necessary. Please uninstall Final Fantasy XIV from your computer. Make sure to delete any remaining FFXIV files from your computer, including any potential files in your ‘Documents’ folder. Then reinstall the game from scratch. If you need a digital version of this, it can be found here: http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na/. Any updates or expansions will be downloaded to your computer once logged into the appropriate account.
Hope to be of assistance.
Hmm I did uninstall FFXIV a few days ago on steam, but for some reason I have 2 FFXIV's in my system, I'll try that before going to bed lol. Anyways, was fine all day my char was in my apartment all day, went gather a few things outside, then I stop by Kugane to check on retainers and Bam, freezing/stuttering then Game closes, a text box "A unexpected error occurred, closing FFXIV now" followed by multiple FFXIV >>>> bunch of letters, like its trying to write something in memory but it couldn't.
I Updated my Nvidia Driver back to the most updated driver and reinstalling FFXIV now thru steam. Also uninstalled the other copy of FFXIV outside of Steam.
Thank you for the update RareItems.
If you are still having problems, you may want to try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.
If this does not solve the issue, can you post a screenshot of the full error message?
We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

I was noticing odd graphical issues since the patch (objects flickering in and out of existence or being really late to load, as if I had a super low draw distance), but I don't really pay attention to my temps or usage or anything. Though I noticed this thread, decided to check my GPU usage, and wow! Same issue. Hovering between 90% to 100% usage. I have no idea what my usage was at prior to this admittedly but this doesn't seem normal.
1) What Graphics Card are you using?
Nvidia GTX 750 Ti
2) What is the resolution, graphical setting, and frame rate you are getting (both pre and post patch)?
Resolution 1920x1080, Windowed, Custom w/ fairly high settings
After the patch I switched the settings to Standard (Desktop) to try and alleviate the issues.
3) Some of you have reported major dips in frame rate, does your GPU utilization reach 100% at this time?
I am not noticing any major dips in frame rate. Usually around 45 FPS.
4) Does this happen constantly or is it restricted to only a few areas?
Appears to happen anywhere, at any time.
5) Is this accompanied by any graphical glitches?
Yes - textures tearing/flickering, objects disappearing, objects, mobs, and even buildings very late to load until I'm basically right on top of them.
6) Please list everything you have tried to alleviate the issue.
Restart game/computer, update drivers, reinstall drivers, lower graphics settings (raised my FPS significantly but still having graphical glitches and extremely high GPU usage)
Greetings!

FPS Limit: 60 FPS
My performance seems to have dramatically dropped over the last couple of months of patches. Back when Sigmascape wasn't even a thing yet, I used to play at a stable 60FPS all the time on a run like Deltascape V1 for example. Now my FPS fluctuates around the 53-60 area in game. It's very much playable yes, but there's no real reason as to why it suddenly can't stay at a locked 60FPS experience. My performance in the Ridorana Lighthouse bounces all over the place too. It does actually stay in the 60FPS area most of the time but you can definitely notice when it falls out of that area.
Other things: I have noticed that I absolutely cannot do anything else on my computer while FFXIV's window is active. I used to be able to at least put a window on my second screen and have a YouTube video play just fine while I'm playing the game and watching a video, but now when XIV is active the video stutters and becomes essentially unwatchable. My CPU usage sits anywhere around 30-45% so it's not an overloading issue or anything, but my GPU resources are being exclusively taken up by FFXIV all the time, sitting at around 95 to 100%.
I also simply cant stream the game through OBS anymore. OBS frame rate drops below 20FPS and streaming has become a messy and jittery experience. Again, not a bottleneck because I was able to do all of this fine way back in patch 4.1.
I also have a "13 MacBook Pro 2013 with Intel Iris 5100 graphics, and a 2.3GHz (2.9ghz turbo) Intel i5 CPU that I play on DX9 and low settings. All on Windows 10, of course. It used to play just fine at 30FPS consistently all the time at 1280x800 resolution back in patch 4.1. I capped it at 30 and it just never dropped or stuttered. Even I was surprised it ran comfortably. (I remember this because I was away from my desktop from the time for about two months and returned to it on the day of patch 4.2's release) Now, it rarely touches 30FPS anymore under any situation, hovering around the 19-26 FPS region, and it produces the same 100% GPU utilization issue as well. DX11 doesn't improve performance either, it actually further worsens the problem.
This issue is alive and well and I hope one day it gets resolved, I'll be glad to answer any additional questions if necessary!

Well, this is weird, i'm having the opposite problem now, FFXIV refuses to use more than 30% of my GPU. The side effect of this is I get between 10-30fps..... :S
Edit: Turns out the FPS issue was caused by an external program. So for me, the GPU usage appears to be back to normal.
It would be nice to have a solution for this problem which seem to be here for a long while already. I just bought back some game time after few months of break, and now can't get more than 12 FPS.

Pretty much just playing and living with it for the moment, though noticing the graphics on screen tend to get jumpy and/or freeze momentarily in other situation now as well as cutscenes (such as when using LB, or when Leviathan uses his big move, etc).
100% this problem is only occurring on FFXIV regardless of being windowed, borderless, high settings, low settings etc. No other game is causing me any issues.

SO.... after several months, much trial and error, diving into my settings, full reinstall's etc etc. I believe I have FINALLY remedied the problem!
Delving into my "NVidia GeForce Experience" settings, I discovered the In Game overlay toggle. I've seen this pop up once in a while, but have never needed to use it and just dismiss it normally, thought nothing of it.
Turns out THIS is what was causing the issue. For some reason, since around 4.2/4.3ish I think the overlay began automatically enabling itself when playing FFXIV, which then interacted in a negative way with the video card resources.
https://i.imgur.com/VGO3YC7.jpg
I have disabled this now and the problem has completely gone away. No chopping, no Freezing, no animation lock ups.
I'm mindful that there is also a smattering of Radeon Card users on this thread, but the vast majority are NVidia and I believe this will greatly help a lot of users looking for answers on here.
Looking it up, Radeon cards DO have an overlay feature, though not sure how you would go about setting/testing this since I don't use that.
Give it a go folks, might just be the missing piece of info we were all looking for.
Can confirm this issue occurred when I moved Windows 10 from 1709 to 1809. No other changes happened.
I currently have issues in video playback now occasionally in chrome (netflix/youtube/twitch) where it skips also. Programs that monitor temperature changes are known to cause deadlock issues and frame skips on nvidia's latest drivers. 417.35 fixed most of those problems for me.

Is this thread still relevant? The emergency update yesterday evening has caused issues. My GPU is typically hovering around the 40% utilisation mark while running FFXIV. After the update it hits 100% the moment I open the game.
I was playing a few hours before the update with no issues at all. I closed the game down and turned off my PC about an hour before the update. I then turned on my PC and updated the game about an hour after the update. After 20 mins of playing I noticed FPS drops and some graphical artefacts typical of GPU overheating. I immediately shut the game down and starting looking to find the issue. GPU utilisation had been at 100% since I loaded the game. I tested several other games - none of them were affected.

I've talked to a FC member this morning who has a very similar PC build to mine. He is having the same issue - GPU utilisation is at 80% on launching the game and quickly climbs to 100%.
I cannot get NVidia's drivers past 3/28/18 to work properly on XIV. Is this an NVidia issue or SE issue? Same problem on both a GTX1070 and GTX1080ti. Game stutters and is basically an eyesore to look at.
Here is a link to a post I made on the forum detailing my issues.

All Direct x Fatal error 11000002
only change i made prior to the issue was getting a new Widescreen: Acer x34p
Worked fine for some reason with the old one, which was a standard 32" tv from samsung..
so this started happening to me near the start of the year, i thought it was my Graphics card on my Riser Cable that was having the issue, i spoke to Nvidia to try and fix it as my GPU Usage was hitting 98-100% causing the game to have lag issues, they tried to help with uninstalling my GPU completely and reinstalling it didnt work, i spoke to ASUS they couldnt help and then spoke to my retailer who took my 1080TI for testing didnt find the fault but offered me a new RTX 2080 to see if that fixes it, so i uninstalled my GPU completely again and installed the latest drivers for the RTX 2080 and still have the issue.
so my 1080TI and now my RTX 2080 both have this high GPU Issue, if i limit my FPS down to 60 my GPU Usage drops like a stone and stays around 45%, Uncapped like i use to (FPS around 140 @ 2560*1080) my GPU hits 98-100% even on 1080p its 98-100%, there has to be something wrong here or the game isnt liking the Nvidia drivers

Cooler: Custom Water Cooler (temps dont even hit above 45 Degrees C)
Nvidia Driver: always up to date so right now its 431.36
now the funny thing is before i built this PC i had a 4th gen i7, 16gb ddr3, msi gaming 3 board and a msi gtx 970, and i never had this issue lol, i ran the game on maximum with that and never once had an issue, i run the game maximum on here and get very high gpu usage on 2 cards that ive tried but now i have to cap my FPS in order to play without delays to skills and such
hope some of this info helps figure it out cause id like to uncap my FPS again without my GPU having a hissy fit and put my monitor back to 144hz while playing 14, i don't like having to limit my monitor and pc when it should literally laugh at what needs using
Any new info from the Dev's regarding this issue? I am getting up to 82C in game. I have zero issues in other games. Drivers are updated etc etc. I have tried different Fan profiles and nada, zich, nothing works. My PC blows pretty much everything out of the water except FFXIV GPU high Temps.

Graphics Settings: 2560x1440 at 100Hz. Same issue in borderless and fullscreen and with and without "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" checked in the .exe's properties.
FPS Limit: 100
My issue is that GPU utilization is too low: I generally get a solid 100FPS except for a couple of ARR area like Old Gridania and Limsa when it's crowded. Then my FPS drops to the 80s/90s yet GPU usage stays at around 75% and CPU at 30%. Usage statistics obtained via RTSS.
Do Devs/Mods read this forum? Is this a dead issue?
i dont think SE cares anymore about this issue, my friend is also getting it but wasnt till Shadowbringers launched and now cant even play cause he lags so badly even on low settings, before he was on high settings and it was fine, would be nice if the Devs find the GPU Usage Leak (similar to a Memory Leak) cause frankly its really annoying
So I've been having these issues since the last patch where the game kept crashing every other hour or so
Today I tried to play and it crashes 10 times in a row now after just a minute or two
Tried reinstalling new drivers and reinstalled the game to no avail
Still having High Temp on my GPU. I have zero issues with graphics, stuttering, lag etc. Everything runs buttery smooth. Purely a heat issue with the game.
Reporting the same issue, on an AMD RX580. More details below:
I stopped playing late Heavensward and only came back now, which I guess explains why I never had this issue before since it apparently started in 4.2 or 4.3.
I play at 1440p medium/high settings
- With framerate unlocked I play at 75-90 fps my card hits almost 77ºC and is permanently at 100% usage. This is beyond the 74ºC soft cap that I have experienced for months with literally any other game. Overwatch at 144fps? 74ºC cap. Witcher 3? Crysis 3? Forza Horizon 4? 74ºC cap. All at 1440p Medium/high settings, except overwatch which I play on low so I can maintain a 144fps lock.
- This intensifies on cutscenes. For some reason, during cutscenes, the framerate jumps to 100-120 and the card heats up even more, hitting 80ºC and unusually high power draw, along with louder and faster fans. In Addition to this, I've had a couple of crashes to desktop during cutscenes, with a DirectX error.
- If I use the game's settings to lock the framerate at 72 (1/2 refresh rate) the game locks to 13FPS for some reason. Changing to 1/4 refresh rate lock, further reduces that to an 11FPS lock.
- I thought it might have something to do with a v-sync conflict, so I turned Freesync off on my monitor. Try as I might, regardless of the combination of settings (driver vsync off, game vsync on, vice versa, both on, both off, with and without freesync, the issue always persisted, no changes.
- Capping the framerate using rivatuner/afterburner worked perfectly. Capping the FPS to a value even just slightly below what I actually get (locked to 72) resulted in slightly lower temps, lower power consumption and lower fan speeds. Cutscene issue persists. the GPU is still permanently at 100% usage, even though I get 72fps locked. which means the issue is still there, I just managed to slightly alleviate the symptoms.
- in order to get this over with I just ended up lowering the rivatuner fps cap to 60. The game runs at 60 locked, and as expected, this further lowered GPU temperature, system power usage dropped by ~35W when compared to unlocked framerate, lower fan speeds and noise.
HOWEVER, even with a humble 60 fps lock:
- GPU temp is still consistently higher than normal, still hitting 70-74ºC, which is insane.
- Cutscene issue still persists.
- And most astounding of all, GPU usage is STILL locked at 100% at max speed (1430Mhz core clock), for some reason.
Hoping to see this fixed, as this is a very serious issue and could cause unaware people with less than ideal cooling to overheat their PCs.

I have been having issues with this game the moment I decided to turn on DirectX 11 support when it was first provided. It used to be that the game would randomly crash with DX style errors unless I downgraded to DirectX 9 in the game settings.
After many patches, the game will run smoothly in DirectX 11 for most regular settings, even though the GPU usage being reported by the Radeon monitoring tools is a constant 100%.
However, having recently upgraded my monitor to a FreeSync/144hz capable curved panel, and trying to get FFXIV to output 144Hz or 120hz & higher frame rates than 60fps, the game now exhibits new problems:
attempting 144HZ:
Randomly while playing the game, no matter what I am doing, the screen will go completely black for a few (no more than 10) seconds, then continue displaying whatever is currently happening on screen.
The time between these blackouts is completely random, but grows more frequent the higher I set the "minimum framerate" settings.
attempting 120HZ:
The game will run smoothly, but the display brightness will change rapidly from slightly too dark to slightly too light in a rapid pattern
I have gone through my game library in Steam and confirmed that other game that can output at 120hz/144hz run without this issue (Deus Ex:Mankind Divided and Human Revolution, Doom 2016, etc).
I have purchased a new display port cable and have also tried an HDMI cable. I have tried running the game in lower graphical detail (keeping the 144HZ option on), I have completely reinstalled Windows, unistalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers and FFXIV twice...
I can also report that attempting to run a secondary monitor to play youtube/local video or to run programs that require odd hooks into the graphics card like VirtualBox also cause FFXIV to run poorly/freeze or cause the video I'm watching to do the same.
All of these problems go away (except for the excessive GPU usage) once I launch the game in DirectX 9 mode.
5700xt here. my gpu utilization skyrockets, Fans go in to turbo mode, and temps stay at 80 degrees. For reference when i play newer more graphically intense titles, my temps float around 68
I created a separate post before reading this topic, so I copied the information here, where I think it belongs.
I just got back to FFXIV after a long time and I'm facing this "hot problem".
My GPU temperature is going high as soon as I enter the game.
In game, I tried all the possible graphic settings, but the temperature stays around 92ºC. In other demanding titles the maximum temperature I recorded was 82ºC.
The problem also persists with directX 9.0.
I'm not using any overclocking.
Fresh Windows 10 installation and AMD drivers are up to date.
FPS fluctuates between 60 to 70 in "High Desktop" 10 less if I go "Maximum", playing in 2560 x 1080 (ultrawide).
Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 18363)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz

Card name: Radeon (TM) RX 480 Graphics (XFX GTR Black Edition 8 Gb)
Monitor Model: LG ULTRAWIDE
Native Mode: 2560 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz)
All inside a Corsair Carbide Spec Alpha with 3 fans
Has anyone been lucky?
Is there still hope to solve this problem?
I really don't think I can keep playing with the GPU temperature staying at 90 ~ 92ºC.
Thank you all in advance and Merry Xmas!
I have a XFX RX590 with a aggressive fan curve and still can only play this for a few minutes before the GPU overheats and shutdown. Most of my games seem to be running hotter after the last AMD driver update but FFXIV is the only game that crashes my PC.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers and FFXIV with no change to the crashing. So annoying how my old GTX 760 ran this no problem for hours and my new RX590 cant run it but a few minutes.
My Friend has a 5700XT and FFXIV is crashing a lot for him too.
