The system isnt forcing you to do anything. You are making yourself do that. The system isnt great, but its not the devil either.
Ok, let's say system will now showing a timer, how would that end for you?
You will have competitions, a lot of them.
If you won the competition, you will be fine, no noise.
If you lost the competition, it is probably another post of how system sucks and asking why there is a timer?
S/E is simply can not win
Let me get this out of the way up front: The system sucks. There probly isnt a perfect solution to solve everyones problems with it, let alone one that would be viable to add to the games coding. So we have to deal with it until a change is made.
By your own story youd have gotten the same results by checking it once an hour. If youd spotted it, taken a 4 hour nap, and come back you might have gotten the house(or you still might have lost it either to a relocator or someone else clicking at the right time). We dont have a lot of data points, but the shortest RNG timer ive heard on one of these was estimated to be a bit over 12 hours. But again, nothing is being forced on you. The game doesnt require you to have a house for anything. An apartment lets you decorate(and those are only sold out on one server im aware of), as does an FC-tied private room. All the seeds and plants from the garden are buyable. And anything an airship or submarine can bring back is buyable too(if we're talking FC house, since an individual cant access these anyway). You desire a house, you dont need it.
Losing the plot you want when it's right there and you don't have any clue when it will be available is crap. I went through this just Friday. I waited for 6 hours roughly, because a plot was open that I wanted but it 'wasn't available for purchase'. I kept checking throughout the 6 hours I could. Then had to go work my part-time job for 4 hours, get back home only to find someone bought the damn plot and had already put their crap up. I was pissed.
Thankfully I managed to find another plot, though it was not in the same area and it cost more gil to buy. :/ The only upside is that the new plot is also in a decent spot that I am okay with.
Losing the plot you want is crappy regardless of why it happens. Whether a relocator swung in and bought it before the timer was up, the timer ran out while you were offline for life reasons, you were camping the placard and someone else clicked it faster then you, or someone bought it while you were running up to the sign(how i lost my dream plot in shiro during the initial launch) - it doesnt matter why you lost it, it always sucks. The first thing i said in that post you quoted was that the system sucks. But sucking and forcing us to do things we dont want to arent the same. And Ecks, you have a second upside too. Now that you have a house you can use the relocation system in the future should a plot you like better open up. So you have 2 upsides, an ok spot for now and the option to potentially upgrade later(3 if you want to count "no longer worrying about it").
I don't like to police others on their complaints, but WOW - there are a lot of completely unrealistic "solutions" here.
Primary because people tend to be selfish a*holes especially when they dont get what they want (like a spoiled kids). Majority of "suggestions" comes from the perspective to satisfy individual needs while simultaneously disregarding the fact this is an MMO, so any change will affect everyone else.
Never mind the classic "unrealistic" situation of implementation of solutions in terms of technology. People assume that simple solutions are simple in tech....when they have no real clue.
There are some good ideas....always....but its never that easy. Especially when your dealing with an established mature code platform such as FFXIV.
Much like an old Oak Tree.....takes a lot of effort to pull the damn thing out of the ground when its taken root. *Assuming your not wanting to damage it*
When someone been playing since 2013 and you wonder why they still bitch about a house they don't have is just odd ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
