I dont see the big deal players are making over hair on the models. I have an idea it is about some insecurity that these players have with themselves. Furthuremore most if not all but a few will actually stop to look at the hair on ur avatar. It would serve no purpose to use the resources to add hairy avatars. More likely than not even for 2.0 the player models have already been completed, so in effect players want the devs to scrap all the hard work just to make it so players can look like a wooly mamoth. I dont diskie nor like it either way I think it would just be a waste of resources to add something that really has no purpose or function other than players wanting to have something that is basicly useless. Although I still go w the idea that it is an insecurity, that these players want this.
I see your point about the use of resources for useless content, however I have to disagree with your post.
Why do some guys shave and others let it grow in real life? Not because the hairy guys are insecure. While having a thin, shaved character model will not offend many women, it's worth noting that there are at least as many--if not more--men in America who would prefer to have a bit of bulk and let it grow. At the same time there are men (like myself) who do keep a thin, shaved body, and I like the models as they are. But given the stereotypes that come from being thin and shaved, I can understand why guys want hairier characters.
By your logic, any stylistic preference is a waste of resources, therefore all characters of all genders, races, etc. should be identically shaped with no distinguishing features, and no equipment should change any aspect of our character model (like video games where you get a new piece of gear but you still see the character's costume). That would save a lot of resources, too.
There is no reason to not have more manliness, unless other people are just simply afraid of manliness.
I'll support this, even though I would personally never use it lawl.
Overall, the customization in this game seems extensive on the surface compared to FFXI but, it is not much better at all.
It would be awesome if they could go the route with arm hair, leg hair, stomach/chest hair and hell even back hair. Make the character you want to play, if you don't want to play that look simply don't!
I also advocate muscle tone/chubby sliders.
It's entirely possible to do this without going to the extremes and still make all the characters look aesthetically appealing.
Personally I keep my chest/stomach trim (most definitely not shaved!) and I like my men with a hairy chest and a little extra for better cuddling. But that's just me :)
Heres the blue prints... of what there going for.

I personally do not want the option for body hair on the feminine male races, Galka and manly Humes are fine with me though.
Waxing is painful.

Much better. ^^;
I'm fine with their direction. Dont need stupid over the top male models, with so many muscles their head is into their shoulders.
