+1, I want a necro job.
As i would like more tank jobs, i would like it to be a tank. How would a necromancer tank would work? (just asking opinion, i'm for it, not against it x) )
It's just hear-say, but I don't think undead and stuff play nice with their government. I believe some game had to mod unit skins and stuff just so it can be release over there. So while I'd love a necromancer job that utilize a bad arse giant scythe and summon tons of skeletons like in Diablo 2, I don't think it's quite likely considering the fact that they aren't going to release a job that can't be release in one of the servers. Well... they can always mod them too but considering the assets involve for a whole new job... meh.
I see. Too bad if that's the case. Because it would indeed be fun ^^
It's not just the cultural taboo in China and some other Asian countries towards depictions of skeletons in popular culture that really prohibits a necromancer type class in the game, the game's very storyline prevents it any way - necromancy in Eorzea is not just illegal it is socially taboo, as it is essentially what led to the Sixth Calamity and the destruction of the Mhach civilization.
Time and time again we're called upon during the storyline to clean up the mess of stupid mages who were meddling with necromancy (the whole PotD story for instance), constantly showing that the revival of the dead is physically impossible, as the soul has returned to the Lifestream already after death, so instead a corpse is merely reanimated as a mindless drone at the least (and end up randomly attacking the living), or at worse, a voidsent demon takes up residence in said corpse, turning it into a mindflayer, succubus, ahriman, naga or many other monsters. As the Warrior of Light, this goes completely against our directive to protect Hydaelyn and those on Her - the Void is the very antithesis to that.
And as other potential classes and Jobs have already been dismissed by Yoshi for story reasons because they don't fit the image of the Warrior of Light (it's why we got ROG instead of THF for instance, Yoshi felt that thieves did not fit the ideal of the WoL, why we got MRD instead of the executioner class that they were originally conceived as, why DRK has flavour text of them being 'dispensers of justice to those who were above the law in Ishgard' etc etc).
A necromancer type class likewise does not fit this idea, and it's clear accordingly SE has no intention of introducing a scythe using Disciple of War or Magic class into the game at all I'm sorry to say - Edda's scythe being added for all existing DoW/DoM classes is clearly a compromise to that.
I'd prefer not to have a scythe as a necromancer weapon simply because casters tend to sit at range and not utilize their weapons as more than a magic focus. I'd lean more towards the idea of having a scythe user as a DPS that uses medium armor like a DRG. New tank I would actually prefer one with a different damage synergy using a mace + shield or 1h pike + shield as all 3 current tanks deal slashing physical damage. The trick is finding a good name for the class aside from just calling it "Reaper"
There are a couple classes from tactics A2 that use greatswords kitted as heavy DPS that we could probably use the job titles of. Lanista and Ravager. Ravager even has a few skills with names that could be appropriate, Full Assault, Sweeping Spin, Blast Wave
We did it, ya'll! There will be a scythe job in 6.0.
... this is from 4 years ago. Sweet beejus
