It's actually the bottom of the wall planters themselves. I used to run a similar set up with my tank and that's what they looked like. The tricky part is making sure when you free float them they're well away from any walls because otherwise they'll snap right too them no matter how they look before you exit the housing interface.

As for the brown part, would you believe me if I told you that was the back of the eorzean map because I'm fairly certain that's what they're using. I could totally be wrong and it could be something else but I've seen them used as false partitions before for just that reason.

So someone found a new glitch to place furniture on a tabletop surface. It's similar to the wall trick but you will need a non-table furniture with a table surface to work:

Update: Play around with it for a bit, it seems like the only furnishing (among those I have at the moment) with a table surface is the Lalafellin Step Stool. Also, it appears that not all furniture will stay afloat, sadly the popoto NPC vendor isn't one of them T-T

can you explain how the furnishing on a non table surface glitch works? I have my lallafel step stool and in the link it looks like manor instruments should be doable, but no joy. Nothing I try will place on top of the step stool.

Just went back to double check, it works similarly to the loft trick listed by Jey in this thread, except you place tabletop items on the Lalafellin Step Stool. As for which item works and doesn't... it's kind of hit and miss. I've tested two Manor instruments, the Manor Harpsichord failed while the Manor Marching Horn work.

Also, I've found something rather interesting. When you tried this trick on the NPC vendor, it will initially appear as though it clipped through the stool the first time you exit the housing menu, but once you re-enter the housing instance, they will be standing on the stool. In the above image, even though the lalafell NPC is standing on the ground, but once I go into the housing menu:

You will see that the "NPC shadow" is actually floating. So the actual tri-axis data is actually saved correctly. So once I put the stool beneath it and re-enter the housing instance:

It go prop back up again. I suppose this has to do with the auto-snap to parallel surface issue that exist since the floating trick was first discovered, except that before this the item that got auto-snapped will have it's axis data modify, while for the retainer's case it still got preserved even when it auto-snapped. Odd. :confused:

TL;DR: the way to do this trick is similar to the loft trick listed by Jey in this thread, except you just place tabletop items on the Lalafellin Step Stool. Need to trial and error to see what item stays afloat. Just remember to turn on "Display Preview" setting.

Also.... WE CAN NOW PUT THE LALAFELL VENDOR NPCS ON THE STOOL!!!!!

Now if only there was an item it worked with that was the same height as the stages. ;.;

This thread is amazeballs! That being said, I'm still having trouble figuring out how people are floating furniture in the middle of the room (or further away from structures) - I don't mean the shelf floating glitch, I'm talking about floating floor-bound stuff in the air like a bookshelf, away from the wall. Does anyone have something that can show me how to do that?

I had a moment to log on and attempt the storage wall mounted item bug and it no longer works. I mean it was an obvious error to begin with, when you wanted to place a wall mounted object instead it would place whatever was on the top of the storage furnishing list. Yeah, that lovely bug. It's gone now it seems. I don't know if I want to relocate knowing all of the stuff I meticulously placed will never be able to go where I had put it before. ...But then again goblet vs shirogane. lol.

I hope I'm wrong though, someone please prove me wrong.

No, unfortunately you are not wrong.

Instead of fixing the issue of being able to go outside of the house (out of bounds) they simply took away ONE of the ways to get out of bounds.

In short, we lost our glitch, a glitch that was a great relief because it allowed us some means of being more creative (to make up for this extremely limiting and flawed housing system) and yet you can still go out of bounds.

Maybe you cant put more furniture out of bounds, but we suffer because that's the way the devs decided to ''fix'' it.

I had been intending on adding lofts to my house. Guess that's not happening now. :(

SE please let us have a little more freedom when placing objects. I understand that they needed to fix an obvious glitch that some folks were taking way too far, but man. Folks were creating some really great stuff. ;.;

Yeah, it's really upsetting. Lofts already placed will stay there, but don't touch them. I hope they look at some of the creations people were making with them and consider unlocking the z-axis for at least certain items.

Since we can no longer create lofts, does the glitch that allows furnishings and vendors to be placed on the lalafellin step stool (essentially the same glitch as lofts) still work? I had hoped to create a platform from multiple hingan desks and have the manor instruments (the ones that this worked for) on it.

That's unfortunate about the glitch fix. I was using it to get partitions and holiday pillars closer to the wall. :(

I manged to float these things by just selecting them, dragging them where I wanted them and then pressing * (subcommand menu) twice.

Should still be able to do all the partitions you want though Dusty, even easier now really, no wall mounted tab fiddling needed. Shame about the lofts though.

Interestingly, this means you can float rugs now as long as they don't clip too far into the out of bounds plane.

E: Rugs are REALLY uncooperative with floating in any useful situations though, it seems like. They're impossible to get to stick on Shirogane walls.

E2: Also, I'm getting free floats for tabletop objects to work just fine with this modified version of the trick as well. Maybe the dream isn't dead.

Never say never, but I think we're going to need another trick to get that one in most scenarios. They don't stick to tabletops and they don't seem to want to attach to walls or pillars, either. They'll gladly sit on top of railings and the open window in the top of larges, but that seems to be about it. It might be related to the centerpoint of the rug not actually intersecting with the plane that objects settle on when they're floated on walls, but I'm not certain at all.

Although it's of dubious usefulness, table top and wall mounted items can be easily attached to the ceiling now.

Great... thanks for fixing such a fabulous glitch in the most ass backwards way SE. Now I'll never be able to snug my partitions up against my walls again. I'm so annoyed with this entire patch.

I can 100% confirm that troupe stages and a majority of nontable items such as partition, mounted bookcases (the entire wall types), etc. can still be placed in the positions to create lofts prior to 4.2. It takes a large bit of creativity. I will not post here how it is done as to preserve this method as long as possible.

Please share your resources. It's worth noting that SE didn't seem to have a problem with the loft glitch, but rather, with people using it to create elaborate jump puzzles outside of the house's area that apparently bypassed the furnishing limit for the house. They haven't fixed any of the other housing glitches.

So I'm unsure if this was the same thing Chevronone was using, but it seems I have been able to get lofts back.

What I did was stand close to the wall and angle myself away, and click the troupe stage in my Storeroom so that it came out diagonally. Then I dragged it up to the top ledge of the window, standing right next to the window and angling my camera up so I could see where the placement marker was. Then I pressed my subcommand twice. I was able to rotate it and upon leaving and re-entering, it stayed. The marker HAS to look like it's on top of the frame. You might need to try a few times.

This was how it looked when I got it in the right spot.

It remains to be seen if it can go in ALL the places it did before. So far I've gotten it to work with Merchant, Mist, and Glade window tops. It appears that the diagonal placing is a requirement, and if you're having trouble, try making it so that you're working with it at a more severe diagonal.

I haven't tested it after 4.2, but basically you have to take an item (any item) and place it on a flat surface like window top, stair pillar, etc, and use the quick swap method.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to hide this method to make their house special. If that's the reason you are doing it, then your creations aren't that impressive and only hinge on a trick and not actual creativity and design.

I think it was more that the original method was fixed and they don't want to clue Square in. Thinking it over though the previous method was a ui glitch (attempting to place a wall ornament and it placed the wrong item) so I can see why they fixed it.

Indeed. I don't think they just wanted to take away our fun. So the fact that it works this way when it's almost the exact same method seems to prove that they only wanted to fix the UI glitch - not the actual ability to place lofts. I'm a happy decorator tonight.

You realize the only reason the old method was fixed was because everyone was abusing placing things in the negative space outside the house zone, right? There's no reason to hide this method anymore as you're unable to put anything in the negative zone now and it will just bounce back into the house.

Let me place candles and wine buckets on the edge of my hot tub. Or set up a stage and place musical instruments on it.

While we're at it, allow us more than two indirect lighting pieces per house. I'd like to be able to set up a photo booth with multiple light sources, or a stage with multiple floor and wall mounted stage lights.

The negative zone glitch is still alive.

Don't be a salt monster. It's clearly to prevent it from getting patched. Just like keeping getting OOB secret, it's not to prevent others from experiencing some of the coolest areas in the game; it's preserving access to those areas so that they are not officially removed .

Has anyone been able to do porch placement since patch? I never got around to doing it before patch so I'm not sure if I'm just doing it wrong. If someone could confirm whether or not it's broken, that would be awesome.

Hoping someone figures out a method for close wall placement again. I accidentally picked up the Hingan Desk I had placed right up against the wall, and now I'm kicking myself. It looks so dumb sticking out so far from the wall. :( On the bright side, being able to place windows on partitions way more easily is fantastic!

Everyone knows how to get OOB and we've been doing it for a very long time. There's a link to the video on how to do so in this very thread. The exact method in the video still works. You're preserving nothing and keeping nothing secret.
