honestly i don't care about forced interactions. make housing because you like to decorate and use it. don't force anything there, people can hang out in cities with people there if they care about meeting new people. way more there

And that is the largest fallacy of this forum and this game. Just because you pay your sub doesn't mean everything should be handed to you. It is still a game where elements of skill and fortitude should still apply to gaining access to content and earning rewards. The challenge is what makes it fun. Having shit handed to you is NOT fun. Why do people go on and on about how much they loved XI, this is why. Sure, sometimes the gates in XI were a little extreme, but the satisfaction of passing those gates was worth every bit of it.
Why on earth does an FC have more rights to a house than a person?
Because more people can have use of a fc house than a personal house, and it's the only way to access the workshop.
When it comes to pure numbers I get the logic. But when it comes to the quality of life players have in the game, it's not so simple. I have seen some fc houses out there with absolutely no love or care put in to their decoration, and I have seen personal homes look far better than anything the environment designers have ever made.
So while you can say a fc should have more rights to a house this does not mean said fc will enjoy it more than a solo player. Also if houses become only accessible to fcs many players will just make shell fcs instead. They'll get their personal house one way or another.
Explain where I said it should be handed to you? I said you should have ACCESS TO IT. Housing is not free, and disregarding gil buyers people still have to make the money to buy the plot. Ensuring people will have a plot available when they have the money is not "handing out" anything.
It's been a long time since I've registered on any message board just to call someone out on their bullshit. But that's what I've done just now, because the amount of people trying to make it sounds like stuff like this makes any sense whatsoever is becoming tedious.
First and foremost, where did the idea that having access to content means having things handed to you come from? When I'm paying my sub I get access to content such as Savage Raids, Ex Trials or Ranked Feast PvP. It's up to me whether I want to or am able to (in terms of my skills, time or dedication) participate in that content. But there is nothing within the system stopping me from making attempts.
Personal housing however is significantly different. Artificial scarcity created by insufficient supply and various oversights on SE's part has caused many players to be barred from accessing that piece of content by the system itself. If I was to try to purchase a plot right now my just about only option would be to buy it from another player. Thus engaging in a process that might as well be against the ToS. Provided I can find anyone willing to sell a plot on my server in the first place.
Finally, the challenge and having the skill and fortitude to beat it. I'm not sure you're even being serious here. Getting a house within a system FFXIV has should be a challenge? Owning a house should be an achievement? What exactly would that achievement be? Sure not amassing enough gil, because a) earning money in this game is surprisingly easy, while small plots are fairly cheap (with medium and large ones not being that expensive either); b) there is a large number of people that have more than enough gil and still can't get a house. Then what? Is the achievement not having RL obligations preventing you from being in front of your PC/PS4 the exact seconds servers go online? Or maybe it's being able to reschedule such RL obligations in order to be in front of your PC/PS4? Or beating the queue times? Or maybe being lucky enough to avoid all the log-in issues early hours of patch days are plagued with?
Nobody says SE should hand you things for free. But Housing is literally the only thing ingame that you cannot have access to even if you have the gil. Thats like saing "Sorry you can't queue savage now because there is already 1000 players doing savage" or "Sorry there is only 1000 Mounts for savage so unless you beat it in time you can never get it". Literally everything ingame is accessible if you have the gil and/or skill for it EXEPT housing. And sure you can pay someone 100 mil to buy the plot off them, but it shouldn't have to be that way.
Or they could restrict the number of houses to 1 per account (including FC house), then count the number of accounts on a server, then offer that many houses. The FC leader could still buy a house for the fc and sacrifice their personal house. New characters can't be created on balmung so we wouldn't need more houses. Since seasonal events always drop furniture (outside furniture too) now instead of minions/mounts, suggesting we shouldn't be able to display it is ridiculous.
I'm with gbe931 on this. While the situation is certainly unfortunate and there do need to be changes, why do you think it's appropriate to take housing away from people who worked just as hard, or perhaps even harder, than FCs? I saved up for months, suffered the pre-patch anxiety, I logged in immediately at server up and my hands were shaking so badly that I could barely navigate the menus! But I managed to get my plot 8 in Shirogane which was my dream plot and my in-game hubby got plot 30 which was his dream plot, which he also worked super hard for.
Why should we all lose something that we worked hard for just because you think an FC deserves it more than we do? Do you know how many FC houses I see where maybe one or two people pop in every now and then??? I see some houses owned by individuals that I see far more frequently. I don't understand why you think an FC is more deserving. Especially when there are so many shell FCs running around or ones owned by 1 or 2 people.
If a free company made up of X people can't beat out individuals for housing then apparently you are not meant to have a house...there is zero reason an FC *needs* a house over an individual player (since Diadem was a total bust - even then, technically not needed.) You are not locked from FC content because you do not own a house - and airships/FC workshop are not true content they are just simply cash cows, nothing more.
The issue with making houses locked to FCs is that many players won't get a chance to decorate it the way they want it. The apartment is a sad empty square, and so are FC rooms.
If you give all FC members permission to place and remove furniture, you risk players stealing stuff for whatever reason, including selling it via PF. GMs won't help out with these reports, so you're better off limiting access to that for everyone except the FC master.
If the above person thinks FC lacks real content (I kinda disagree since I do like the Company Workshop), then there's no real reason to lock it to FCs.
What I do think should be done is check for a minimum number of FC members. My previous FC plot was purchased by a FC of a single member, had it locked, had no furniture placed outside, and I'm sure it was basically a warehouse. It was relinquished during the Shirogane fiasco, so I'm guessing they're now ocupying a space somewhere else.
