The BEST solution would be to put weapons in the 'loot list'. After many, many tries, one of our static tanks still does not have the sword... meanwhile, it dropped for me on one of my first wins, and I will probably NEVER level gladiator. What a waste! I would have loved to give it to someone else. Although this can be a 'problem' for linkshells that will argue over their gear, it is a boon for linkshells that will happily work together to obtain their goals.
Of course, if THAT doesn't happen...
Increasing the drop rate on nuts/totems would be a good alternative. Twenty wins, for a linkshell that doesn't grind these out every single day, is still pretty challenging. It says you are dedicated, not just lucky.
If you think increasing the drop rate makes it TOO easy, consider... increasing the amount of nuts/totems needed to get the weapon. (If it is guaranteed 100% drop rate, then increase the nuts needed to 25, 30, or even higher. I would personally like to see it stay at 20, but I am making this suggestion for those people complaining.)
Another way to make using the nut/totem method more 'challenging' is to add a mini quest that must be cleared prior to turning in or using the nuts. Of course, creating a new quest would require much more time and effort than just adjusting loot options and dialogue.
OR, as an option, they could change/increase the difficulty of the fight itself should people think a 100% drop rate makes obtaining the weapons 'too easy'. I do not think this is a good idea because this game was 'originally' supposed to appeal to casual players in addition to hardcore ones.
Lastly... I'm not sure if this is a 'rumor' or fact (I admittedly don't read these forums as much as I should), but apparently beating Moogle within 15 minutes or less increases the 'drop rate' on items. What if beating Moogle/Ifrit within 15 minutes meant a nut/totem was 100% droprate for EVERYONE? This would be challenging for casual shells, but fairly easy for ones that do the fight all the time. AND -- it would encourage people to get better at the fight, to the point where they are flawless. If 15 minutes is 'too hard', perhaps it should be increased to 'within 20 minutes' or something like that... but I think 15 minutes is a doable challenge for most.

Loot list weapons/armor drops is the only acceptable solution in my opinion.
Personal loot lists do not belong in a group encounter, in an MMO.
