How badly do we want an old content revamp?

I would like them to update the old zones so long as it meant expanding the maps so that they're not just narrow tunnels full of invisible walls.

They could also take that opportunity to rework ARR quests so that it's not so much "go here, now teleport across the world to talk to this person for five seconds, not teleport back and talk to me for three seconds, now teleport..."

If they announced that to bring;

swimming to all residential areas
swimming to all zones with significant bodies of water
Flight to ARR zones
and unified city maps

...to the game they would need to put off a patch by 3 months. I could be OK with that.

i would not. the only part of that which remotely matters to me is swimming in housing zones.

personally, i would like only four things.

one is to finally update Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium. these two dungeons have had a lot of cases involving new players meeting extremely toxic ones just because the new players want to see the cutscenes. they need to cut out some of the cutscenes in each dungeon and have them happen in the background instead. also, make Nero the final boss in The Praetorium and Make Gaius, The Ultima Weapon, and Lahabrea stand along trials. additionally, The Praetorium needs more obstacles to slow down players to compensate.

the second thing i want is what you've already mentioned: updated city layout.

third is to finally give the beast quests of ARR story continuation past level 50. introduce the beast tribe quest system from HW (quest level sync), implement it to ARR beast tribes, then introduce more reward quantity for completing them.

fourth is a big one, but i would like it if players can unlock most combo-based abilities when starting a new job. most of these abilities have statistical buffs, including debuffs upon targets or more damage for a flank. so allow players to unlock the combo's themselves, then include their statistical buffs as they progress.

I just want Ifrit Ex to accept being stomped to death like the rest of the old extremes.

I still cry every time I reach the level 50 MSQ quests because of that ludicrous level jump from 47 or so to 49/50. It's this huge proverbial middle finger to anyone who wants to power through it. The only good thing about it now is that there are other ways to get those levels besides grinding Aurum Vale to death...

Levi and Ramuh are two extremes that also have elements of reverse dps checks to them. Although I will admit, Levi at 70 was a lot better than Levi at 60 because you can melt the spumes much faster, meaning they drain the generator less, so you have to be less gentle with the eel

Honestly I would love to see swimming in a lot of the old areas, there are some great places that would make beautiful swimming holes...

At the same time I'm disappointed in swimming/diving in general.

This, so much this. Have a friend that was put off away from the game because of the amount of time it would take him to reach SB to be able to play with me. Sure, there's the jump-potion on the Mogstation but it's kinda expensive for most people. (I hear WoW offers the story jump for free?)

And to be honest, the story in ARR doesn't get interesting till the Sultana arc, Heavensward? Uggggh! I loathed the story there, prob a few interesting bits but by the end I completely forgot why we where fighting in the first place, so far the best story by a mile, is the one in SB imo.

Not before this item issue is dealt with permanently.

What I would like is that they would add high level content and area in old spaces. They are just so small that adding to it would help bring veterans back to them at least to do whatever new content you add to it. It could also give an excuse to revamp and add flying in order to reach the new high level areas in old spaces. New players and veterans just don't intermingle often except in Gold Saucer and some City-States since the vets are segregated in new areas.
