I would love to see this but it's been mentioned time and time again. This topic was beat to death in the beta phases. I'm beginning to wonder where all that "invaluable" feedback went...

Stopping when you drop your shield is dumb as hell also.
I'd prefer if buffing didn't require you to be in active mode, rather than entering active mode while running.

No.. you dont stall at all in WoW. you can run around all day hitting the z button at the same time and you will continuously ready and sheath your weapon without stopping. I have done it when I was bored... and no Elder Scrolls: Oblivion doesnt do this either, neither do Fallout 3 or new vegas....
Not sure why someone bringing up wow alot but uhh, only time you stop moving is if your like a hunter using a "channeled" ability or a mage casting a "channeled" ability or any other class with some "channeled" ability.
There is no stopping to do normal attacks or "instants", you can run around out of combat, and stab rats without stopping, there is no .5sec stop, unless your PC is so terrible its lagging to load the animation files to stab that Lv 1 rat (in which case how are you even playing ffxiv)
Anyway I'm all for constant on the move in/out of combat mode and usage of "instant" abilities. It would slightly speedup the pace of battle overall I think.
Its somewhat noticeable for people without the lancer lv 20 ability quickstride in like a behest (or leve), when you run vs people going in and out of combat mode constantly falling far behind as they do that.
Allow me to add 'Readying your shield' to that.
Oh god yes PLEASE, I can't count how many times i went to cure someone soloing a too strong mob only for then to die because i needed to whip out my staff to cast cure. I'm not a fan of casting with a weapon in hand, I also miss the FFXI casting while disengaged.
I understand that people can copy what one game does whether popular or not with what works or doesn't work, but eventually something has to change to become a true next gen game. Who cares if every other MMO has you stop when you draw or put away your weapon if this game makes it possible to do this just by decreasing or increasing character movement speed and remove the hassle of stopping?
I would really like to hear a good explanation as to how stopping to draw or put away your weapon has helped you or anyone else in or out of game.

If you want that slight advantage, rank up lancer and earn the guild marks for fleet of foot.
Fleet of foot = run as fast with weapon out as weapon in.
The topic is not "i want to run as fast as i do with my weapon drawn as i do when it is not"...... We are talking about having to stop to sheath/unsheath our weapons or to raise/unraise our shields, and having to unsheath to cast spells. No one is concerned about Fleet of foot....
Removing the delay removes the advantage a player with Fleet of Foot has earned by leveling a side class.
Honestly, I wonder how many who support this hasn't earned the trait...
Actually, the fact of whether or not other MMOs do this is under debate. I personally think it was proven that others do NOT back on page two, post 15.
In my MMO experience, there is no stalling when entering combat.
I don't mind active/passive mode, but I think it could have been handled better. I would rather have something more subtle and seemless, where you automatically enter active mode when you engage an enemy and are in combat, then automatically enter passive mode when combat ends. I don't think it should have anything to do with whether or not you take out your weapon. And it certainly should not make you stop in your tracks.
So as we were saying........ Sudden shield arm failing has gotten me zapped by gnats. who else hates this?
Like life every action is a give and take. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Need MP? Easy rank up THM to 20 for Siphon MP. Want to have the advantage when claiming the NM? Rank up lancer for Fleet of Foot.

To use your own example in WoW if i run forward and use an instant attack for examples sake Heart Strike, then my weapon will be in my hand and the strike will land without any delay there wont be a weapon draw animation my Troll Death Knight will do the weapon strike animation with weapon in hand, her legs will still be moving.
Imo that's no reason to not fix it anyways. If we have the chance to ask to fix something annoying, why not try? Just because every other game has the same feature, should we just live with it and not improve? There wouldn't be any evolution if all stays the same. This was annoying in FF12 too, specially when trying to open a chest and having to wait for weapons to draw back in. So yeah, +1 to get it removed.
All I am saying is learn the mechanics of your game before saying that something don't work.
Of course, I wonder what new trait lancers will get if this happens since it makes Fleet of Foot useless.
So, as a lancer you run everywhere with your weapon out then? I have fleet of foot, and I still sheath my weapon to run around. When I agro something I can't kill (too strong for me) while in passive mode, to use quickstride I have to pause and pull out my weapon. I don't want to pause to get attacked when I am trying to run. How does this diminish the benefit of fleet of foot? It only works in active mode, not during the transition between active and passive.
edit: btw I would like to point out that even with that trait, it is still not as fast as passive mode. Tested running next to a friend, passive is still slightly faster.
This essentially would make Fleet of Foot useless since you couldn't regenerate HP/MP and you wouldn't be running around while trying to counter attack, but you could still move out of AOEs easier, position yourself around mobs easier, or move to teleported targets more quickly, yet again if going into active/passive was as fluid as having no stopping time then that still wouldn't matter for the most part.
With this everyone would be in active mode 100% of time played and would be the most valued skill in the game.
So they should ultimately give LNC a new trait like increased attack distance.
Wow, how literally retarded some of you are. The advantage of Fleet of Foot is not so you can catch up while sheathing weapons. It has to do with your ability to move around in combat faster and reposistion. This is perfectly explained by the entire fact it is put on the LANCER. You know the class with pierces and skills that require positioning, so you can move faster... while repositioning. We're talking about the game stopping movement when you unequip your weapon....
So let's look at this like the mongoloids do.
You are running next to someone without fleet of foot, you both hit active mode, you both stop, the one with fleet of foot runs fast afterward.
Let's pretend you didn't stop.
What would happen, the person with fleet of foot would run faster afterward.
How do you people tie your shoes in the morning? Do you use velcro?
