[Request] Please make event gear harder to get outside of in-game events.

I have a serious and non sarcastic question:
Why does someone else having an item later affect your enjoyment of the item? You had it first, so you have your "unique" time for about a year. It's not as if someone else having it makes yours look or act differently.
I'm a huge proponent of everyone having access to everything, let people get the items they want or make progression towards those items at least. So I don't understand people who want to limit others access to things.
I did the whole yokai grind, got both mounts (it helped I was doing anima weapons at the same time) and I've also got the brickman and shantotto minions. I would LOVE for others to be able to get these things, especially if it would complete their collections or outfits.

I get wanting to limit them to events to make them feel sort of special, but some events never repeat and some people will never experience those events (I have a friend who always away during new years and never gets those items).

it sounds like you want to deny some people access to these items, and that sounds mean. This is why you're going to get pushback.


also, as has been said before, asking SE to out and out STOP something that's proven and working to bring in extra revenue is not going to happen.

I don't get the issue at all.

Optional vanity items are just optional vanity items. None of the seasonal events have high level battle content you need to clear to obtain any of these optional seasonal glamour etc.

So ...why does it matter how people obtain them?

Either way the people who were subbed paid sub fees to play during that month then the others pay fees to obtain off mogstation...there is almost no difference except if you were subbed you got more out of it since you actually got to do the events.

I've been subbed since launch so I've gotten all event items by actually playing, but I don't care how others get it either if they played for it or missed it so they paid for it from mogstation. It literally has zero affect on me how others obtain it.

I don't agree that they should stop making prior event items available. Seasonal is fine, but they should recur.

I would agree however, that they should stop adding them to the Mog-Station.
Granted, I'd also say they should stop adding anything whatsoever to the Mog-Station and stop adding digital goods to real-life merch/events.
However, I've lost that war long ago unfortunately. Won't subjugate myself to its victors' whims though. :-/

I'm pretty sure that most people buying past event items are players who didn't start playing in 2013 and want the things they missed. By removing the option to buy old items you could be removing more income than is gained from the small number of people whose only reason to stay subscribed is seasonal events. The events already have close to 100% participation rate among subscribing players for what I've personally noticed (free stuff is a pretty good motivator), and I don't agree that making the items limited would suddenly cause a spike of returning players who had good reasons to quit in the first place.

Most objections I've seen against the Mog Station stem from the idea that the subscription should include all works of creation made for this game. Since event items are available in game there shouldn't be any issue with them being available in the Mog Station as well. People get more upset by pay-to-win, basic game features or content costing extra money and unique cash-shop-only skins in a subscription game. The last one doesn't bother me but it bothers some.

I have done every event since I started playing this game (November 2015). I don't care if they add previous event items to the cash shop. It doesn't stop me from doing the event at release ("I can just buy it later off the Mogstation" mentality doesn't apply here), and I don't care if people who missed the event (or who create alts after the event period) want to buy the items from the cash shop. I got them for free and for minimal effort. They spent $5-10 USD on them.

Asking them to remain exclusive to those who participated in the event comes off as entitled to me. It speaks of "I've been playing this game longer than you, so I get all the pretty shinies you weren't around to get" sort of mentality that just irks me. It's my opinion that very few items in this game should ever remain exclusive (specifically, 1.0 exclusives such as the Goobbue, Legecy Chocobo, and WoL brand); event items that take a maximum of 5-10 minutes to get (Yokai excluded here)? No.

So while I've agreed with the vast majority of your posts before, Kosmos, I can't agree with you here.

I really want the Yokai mount since I wasn't playing by the time of the event, it would look really awesome with my Lala too, and I would def buy it from the Mogstation if it comes later. More money for SE, and me=happy customer. I don't see any harm in that. (tho the Yokai mounts will prob never be added to the Mogstation sadly) :(

I don't even like Yo-kai, but I got that mount because of how hilarious it looks.

To be frank, we aren't exactly lacking on special, exclusive items for more invested players, anyway. The Odin emote is one, but also pre-order bonuses, high tier veteran rewards, and the actually never hitting Mogstation legacy bonuses for 1.0 players.

Seasonal event stuff is fine.

It's added to the mogstation a whole 1 year later, what's the problem? The items are far outdated by then anyway. Plus you got them for free during the event.

But Yokai Watch was a crossover event and crossover event rewards are still the exception in the mogstation, and not the rule. I think Lightning gear is the only crossover event reward in the mogstation.
It will be a nice surprise if it show up, but I will not expect it because there are no demanding threads every month about it like it was with Lightning. The demand just don't exist.
And SE don't own Yokai, so it is a matter of if SE is allowed to sell it after the event ended or if obtaining the rewards is limited to the event

Wait, now holiday event gear is something to be lorded over new, inexperienced, or casual players? I really have seen it all.

There is the issue of "destroyed on pick up" flags on certain event items. Unless someone wants to use certain holiday and event themed furnishings and decor placed forever. A year or two later if they want to use it again. Their only choice is the mogstation.

How I wish that works for furniture as well.

Back on topic, personally I still think the ideal situation would be one year after X event, X reward would be added to the kupo store and in-game the next time X event roll about again after players completed said event. Say if I missed last year's moonfire event, I can either wait for it to come around this year so I can purchase it in-game with gil, or if I missed it again this year and I don't want to wait any longer or if I just feel like supporting SE financially, I can just purchase it off kupo store with cash.

...but it will never happen, so meh.

As someone said, you get event items for free, while the others have to paid for it.
However, Yokai Watch event and Garo (PVP) event will not be back. (since they are a collabs with other developer/company)

p.s. Those are glamour items, and i have zero problem with other players that get access to it.

There's already a retar......ahem, rare exclusive items such as Squall Outfit for a 1440 days of subscription, we don't need more items like that. (Also, there's Cloud&Zidane outfits too)
I will probably quit the game sooner, than i will obtain Squall's outfit :/

I don't care if people get the item even if they didn't participate. Offering it via mog station, gives me later on the possibility to get it for my alts, that I might not have made to that time etc. I don't see any issues with that, however I do have an issue when specific gear/items are offered via Mog Station only, instead of making it an in game event first. But that's a whole different discussion.

Phew. Glad OP isn't in charge of XIV's marketing. SE would have a gaping hole where money used to be in weeks.

Because the entire basis of your post revolves around you feeling like these unique event items have arbitrarily lesser value since someone else can buy them off the Mogstation a year later. It's the definition of entitlement. You want an item to feel special for no other reason than you believe it should be. These events are supposed to be a fun little side activity that happens to have cute items attached to it. The devs don't intend for said items to be something you can brag about participating in. Regardless, I can't speak for your server, but event participation is certainly not an issue on Balmung. We've had the damn server break because people flock en masse every time. So... I don't think the devs need to incentive these events anymore than they already do.

That's not how you spell accessibility or casualization. Not that I'm defending op's "muh uniqueness" mindset, but if the devs can't be bothered to work towards keeping people subbed, then what's the point of the sub. Incentivizing players to stick around is the basis of the sub model.

I like the exclusive achievements and titles that you can only get through the events. I know a few friends who hate that I have them and they don't due to joining a couple years after the game came out, which they can never buy.

That has to be better things to complain about.

Tbh, everyone should really start ignoring and boycotting these events now. They've evolved into half-assed clickfests and fate camping, and the items always later end up in the cash shop anyway.

It's almost as if you think that people who buy it on the Mog Station are somehow able to use their purchases without a subscription.

As well, I always thought a good incentive to subscribe was to be able to play the game and use items I have earned/bought.

I knew immediately that this would be one of those threads where the OP has a few likes and then the 2nd post which would inevitably call the OP out would have drastically more likes.

This strikes me as particularly selfish because the event rewards are clearly designed so as many people as possible will be able to get them. Most of the events don't even require you to do anything beyond talking to a few NPCs. Why is this, of all things, the thing you're trying to make harder to obtain? Besides, they don't seem to put up event items in the Mogstation until the event rolls back around the the next time. Meaning you had an entire year to show off your nice new exclusive stuff. By then, you should be over it and if people wanna buy it then let em. Geez.

A lot of people work or can't get on for events due to irl obligations, which results in them having to pay for it through mogstation with their hard earned cash. Who's to say they aren't already working hard for the items?

Well this is...original? Usually threads with this type of exclusivity / separatist mentality are about raid rewards. And in those threads, I tend to agree since that content does (or should) take some form of effort. (Note: Or at very least there should be a version that does which adequately rewards players who invest time into it.) But this...this is furniture and clothing from holiday events!!! If SE repeated the same holiday events with the same prizes, or with the ability to get previous years' prizes, I might get where you were coming from. But as far as I know, they don't. (If I am mistaken, someone please correct me--I only returned a couple months ago.)

People who took part in the actual events will / should have achievements and titles that can set them apart. Farther, at least some items that are obtained through events can be sold on the AH for money in the future, where their MogStation counterparts cannot be used in this manner (SE would hypothetically be selling a means of RMT to their players...). E.g. the Eastern Cherry Tree is going for 15 mil on my server or it's $4 on the MS.

I've seen some people say housing is the true end game, but I think this might be carrying that theme a bit too far.

I would rather have SE put all the mogstation items in the game. We're already paying for the game why not let us work for these items in game? Most people would still buy stuff in the Mogstation and those of us who can't afford them could still get them in the game we already pay for.

I'd like events to repeat occasionally too.

I find forum posts are getting very predictable lately. There is a group of veteran players who want all the new players to know that veterans are special and better than the new players. These veterans often talk about how things are getting too easy and that it's getting too harder to be special. For example, many veterans feel glamour gear should be more exclusive.

Other common posts are about making an easy game even easier! These are often posted by new players. I almost never see new players complain that they don't get to have veteran perks. But a lot new players do want permanent sprint outside cities, no zoning screens, and they complain about how long it takes to start using glamour gear.
