The issue remains that there are not enough S ranks to make this a reasonable number due to the fact that ARR / HW S ranks do not take many people to kill so there is a good chance that they will be spawned and die without very many even knowing they popped. Then add in the fact that there are players out there using a third party program that tells them these S ranks spawn which means the playing field is not even since those of us that don't cheat are at a severe disadvantage to find the S ranks. So I could go out and put in the effort to spawn an S only to have it found and killed by the cheaters without even knowing the attempt to spawn it succeeded. If this achievement stays we need a way added to force pop S ranks outside of their normal windows so people can actually put in effort farming tomestones, seals, etc and work on the mount without being blocked by cheaters or server jerks.
It would also be nice if there was some sort of in game record of when the hunts last died so you don't have to depend on out of game websites that may not be updated.
The achievements you might be thinking of are the GC ones related to provisioning missions. Those required completion of 100/1000/5000 provisioning missions, at 3 per day, the last one would've required over 4.5 years of daily turn ins.
There were 10k battlecraft/tradecraft/fieldcraft leve achievements, as well. Those would've taken over 4.5 years each (although these didn't give any item rewards).
What is it with people wanting everything here and now without any effort?
Some things are meant as long term achievements. We already have so many mounts in this game and more will appear soon.
I don't think anyone wants things immediately for as far as I can tell no one is demanding the requirements be thrown away entirely. However after crunching the numbers it's really not worth it for the vast majority of people and even actively locks out people on smaller servers without a built in community to render aid. Lowering the amount to something reasonable within a year or so, which is what I think is fair as opposed to two or three is hardly a difficulty. Especially as it's a mount people have been begging for since Aquapolis came out.
How exactly would reducing the requirement down to 1000 S ranks/2000 A ranks turn it into something that no longer takes effort? It'd simply turn a ridiculously long term achievement into a long term achievement.
That, or allow players to obtain items (through allied/centurio seals, rare drops, etc.) that can force pop S/A ranks.
If they want to suddenly start giving out glamour/mount retroactive rewards to old achievements I hope they one day give something for the 1000 Frontline wins achievements.
I like achievements that take some time to get or are a bit difficult to achieve but I dislike stuff like this one, where you need to do a certain content for years all the time to even get it. At least with the mentor mount one could do as many roulettes as they want per day. With hunts you only have a certain amount of them and they are on a timer. Also they love to put a lot of things behind it so there are a lot of people doing hunts periodically. (And lets not forget that S rangs in ARR are so low that you dont need many to kill it)
At the same time this was a mount that was requested by a lot of people (like the PVP one) and yet it was put behind content that needs years to achieve and thus its only for a selected few. I mean this will be owned by even less people than the hellhound mount..thats crazy. You could have put this as a tank mount for all tanks Kinda like the Kirin, where you get it, if you have all three tank pets. At least people could work for this at their own pace and it might be a nice carrot on the stick for people to tank.
I have no interest in getting it, even though I love tigers..its just way too much out of reach for me.
They have done some weird stuff recently with achievements, I wonder who gives their "okay" ... First we had the still existing potd "bug" where you need to die past the level mentioned in the log to get the achievement. Then they deleted "The Fold" PvP Mode and now they are tracking both old "The Fold" and "The Feast" matches into 1 achievement, but ofc feast matches are not retroactive only fold matches are. Why?
Now for this achievement, I too did the numbers at the start, I consider myself even a somewhat active hunter, I triggered some S myself. There are 29 S mobs, 2 of them will be active as soon as savage hits tomorrow, 1 in southern thanalan only rarely activates because you would have to grind all fates there for an hour and don't miss a single one.
I did like a 1 year break from ff14 once, but I don't even have 500 S at this point xD. So if I continue to hunt like that I will get my tiger in maybe 6+ years, which is ridiculous. Do we even know we still playing/living that long?
You guys can defend their decision all you want, there are some grinds in this game and I did a lot of them if its other mountfarming, pvp, crafting... but this achievement just beats everything, the timeeffort is so over the top that I don't think there will be more than 100 people with this mount at the end of the next year. When I checked it at https://apkallufalls.com/#/census like a month ago there were 14 people with this mount, ofc there are more untrackable players but its a start, now there are 15 with it... Some people I know who have it, didn't actually hunt or trigger 1 time in their life.
If you do 10 mentor roulette a day you will have the mentor mount in around 7 months. If you manage to get 20 S(which is a lot even as a hunter with no rl) in a week, you will have this mount in 2-3 years.
They have different ways to fix this, they can decrease the respawn timer especially of the old S ranks, they can add a NPC(well there is a hunt NPC in every area but he doesnt tell u shit) which tells people if a hunt is dead currently(which will save a lot of time for people on servers who don't actively use tracking sites), they could decrease the S required to 1000 for example.
And to the people here who want to still defend this lol.. would you guys still defend it if it is 5000 or 10000 or 20000 S ranks, maybe think of a limit that would be suitable for a video game reward, they put a highly wanted mount shielded behind a massive, for 98% of people impossible, grind. If I want my customers to stay with my video game I give them goals they can actually acquire at some point, but not in several years doing only 1 thing. My opinion would have been different if these achievements were already in the game some years ago, there was few reasons to keep S hunting once u got all of them.
I'm certainly not against SE rewarding long term hunt players, or any long-term players at all. However, the rewards should not be something that a large chunk of the playerbase is going to want, and which will ostracize new players. If the reward is so highly desired and has criteria to obtain that would require literally over a year of focusing playing, then it should be account-wide at the least, and mounts are not.
If they'd made the Centurio Mount a copy of the new primal mounts, or the old primal mounts, that'd have been fine. But people have wanted a tiger mount since the model first made its appearance. Either they should add another tiger mount and make it obtainable (maybe a white tiger) through a raid or gold saucer or even just the Mog Station, or they should reduce the requirements for the existing achievement by a massive amount. 100 S ranks and A ranks is already a lot for brand new characters/players, but certainly more realistic.
I think it should be purchasable with Centurio seals. This way we can work on it independently AND with a group if we desire. Tying it to hunts is just encouraging people to go out, kill an S rank as quick as they can and vanish - as in "haha, I got mine! Sorry suckers!"
I'm probably going to be burnt for suggesting this, but how about adding it as a secondary source of reward for getting all 3 SB tank mounts? That's 900 tank runs, so it's going to:
- Take some time and effort
- Helps out with queue time
- Wide verity of options to grind for mount
- Tiger also fits with the beast theme for tanks mounts
..or just lower the requirement to 2K A ranks and 1K S ranks as suggested by couple other players. I'm going to take my leave before those exclusive snowflakes come after me with their pitchforks.

Around two-dozen people already have it so I don't think SE will step back on the requirements. The can up the spawn rate for S ranks though, which would help keep old zones active too. But whether they actually will or not remains to be seen.
Firstly, I'm all for things that you have to work and strive to obtain. I don't mind there being achievements and rewards that will be difficult for me personally because they're either A) not my thing or B) slightly out of my skill range. I don't mind grinding to get something I want. However, there is a point where expectations become unreasonable.
From the math in this thread and others people are pointing out that you need about two years of ideal conditions to get your hands on this mount. Considering all the factors involved (such as early pulling, nobody answering the relay when one does spawn, nobody attempting to spawn them, nobody announcing a spawn) plus the fact that not everyone can be online for every window and every pull...you're looking at closer to four years. That's not exclusivity, that's someone failing to do the actual math on their own achievement.
There are solutions though. As some folks have pointed out cutting the requirements in half still makes the achievement tough but doable if you really buckle down. Certainly something you can achieve without worrying if the game is even going to be around long enough. Or, if you really want to still keep it up there, you could always sell items that force hunts to spawn for centrino seals. Let people grind away and save up, make the items expensive enough to require some effort but not insanely prohibitive.
Either way, this hasn't put me off hunts. I know with every expansion released there will be more S Ranks, more A Ranks, more windows and opportunities. Some days I'll get in with a group and get some good grinding in for a couple of hours. Some days I'll get nothing. I don't anticipate ever personally obtaining the mount as things stand now and I'm okay with that. A little sad but not nearly enough to say that the achievement shouldn't exist at all or that it should be something anyone can put zero effort into. It just shouldn't be something that people feel they can't do because they started playing 'too late' into the game's life cycle.
About nine months of gameplay later, I've hit 500 S ranks mark (I only started going after S ranks hardcore about five months in, too).
At this rate, I might be able to get it before the next expansion, since I'm present for probably close to 90% of the S rank kills on the server due to me and only a handful of others bothering to spawn the things.
It still seems a little absurd, in any case.

I was for lowering requirements at first, but as I approach 1500 S ranks I'd prefer the mount to remain rare and standout from a crowd of Ixions and Kamuys. Nothning worse than to be like everyone else and to have all that everyone has.
I will add my 3 cents. I cannot sub every month to the game, I've been hunting since hunts came out and i think that was in 2014 if i recall correctly. Since then I have been on 99% hunts when i was subbed. My current stats are A: 232 slain & S: 76 slain. This ridiculous requirement while taking into consideration the amount of time i can sub (which will not change - it cannot change) will take me MINIMUM 10+ years to complete, to "farm/get" that mount. The game will be dead sooner than I will be able to reach that achievement mark looking at how it took me 3! ! years to kill 76 S, not to mention those A as well which need hefty number as well. From my point of view, I'm never gonna be able to get that mount no matter how much I want it until something will be done about it.
Remove or drastically reduce the respawn timer for S-Ranks, and that's the only way this thing will make sense to me. With spawn windows being what they are, it inflates the time it would take to get this thing to a ridiculous degree, and pursuing it pretty much freezes you from doing other content.
It's like some of the ludicrous achievements in GW2. "Take the castle in WvWvW 250,000 times".
Eventually even the devs went back and said, "Yeah, that's just stupid." and dialed them way down.
I found this tooling through my achievements. I agree that it's a bit much for such a plane Jane mount graphic to be attached to so many kills. It needs to be riding it's own raptor mount which in turn rides it's flying shark mount which has lasers! ... AND DRAGONS!
The hilarious part is that mount is ugly as shit so lol at going for that.
With all that archievments needed,this tiger better be able to breath fire and can shoot laser eyes.
I'm more concerned about the Mentor mount than the hunt mount
But I more reasonable amount for each will be
Hunt Mount : 1k As - 1k Ss
Mentor Mount : 500 Mentor runs.
i agree to some degree, since i really like to use my super rare Fenrir mount too, wich i worked my ass off to get my hands on it - oh, wait...
i really don't understand why they increase drop rates for ex primal mounts, start throwing MGP in huge amounts at the playerbase and make rare mounts easier obtainable, while at the same time they are adding new mounts wich are way harder to get than everything we had before.
either keep everything rare, or make everything easier obtainable...
I'm pretty sure the point of this mount is to reward people who put a lot into hunts and (of course) keep their subs for a long long time. I say good for those who get it! I doubt I'll end up getting it but I think of it as something to work toward. Having everything just given to me would ruin the whole point of playing in the first place.
Firstly, lowering the requirement from 3k/2k to 2k/1k or simply increasing the spawn rate of S rank is by no means "everything just given to me". There's still plenty of effort required for it.
Secondly, in regards to reward for hunting, I think there's more than sufficient rewards for this particular content already, was there really a need to add another highly requested reward behind it with such high requirement?
Lastly, correct me if I'm wrong, but the way you phrase it sounds to me that you think the tiger mount is some sort of veteran reward for hunters, in which case, I'll like to direct you to take a look at the new veteran program which was created because there were complaints of rewards becoming too difficult for new players to obtain simply because they started late. Which even though not directly related, pretty much sums up to Tint's comment earlier; a lack of consistency in terms of adjusting the difficultly to obtain reward.
Pretty much, especially considering the recent changes to veteran program. While not exactly the same, the same argument remain in both cases imo. Then again, I was never one for exclusive rarities so I might be bias.

Your raid member must be mistaken. The 'lifetime achievements' for hunters are the 10,000 A rank and 5,000 S rank achievements. Tiger mount isn't even at the halfway mark. And those doozies only offer a title and 10 achievement points. I think SE really needs to re-evaluate their effort-to-reward ratio.
Also the way SE assigned kill values to those...... it would seem they think A ranks spawn only twice as often as S ranks. I would have assigned kill requirements at least vaguely resembling the spawn ratios.
Or maybe they're trying to endorse aetheryte camping /shrug
Not sure if anyone has asked this question, but I'll ask anyway: How in the hell do we know the amount of S and A ranks that we've already killed? It's impossible to know whether or not we're close to that achievement if there's no display for it. :/
3 weeks ago 15 people had the mount. Now there are 19. (who have their achievements public, achievementhunter do that usually..)
The mentor mount takes 20-30 days of pure dungeon time. Let's say you are insane and you do 12hrs mentor roulettes a day. You will be done in 2 months max.
50 S hunts will spawn on an active server in a week maybe(that is already pretty generous estimations, because of how the triggers are working), let's say you are crazy and you get them all. In 2 months you will have 400 which is 20% of the achievement.

Just don't compare these 2 mounts with each other lol... the tiger is way waaaaay more difficult to obtain...and yee it is just a tiger with no particle effects/special music theme or different running animation so people should indeed wonder why it is so hard to obtain
You check your achievements tab for Hunting and the uncompleted ones will still tell you how many you already have if you click on them.
lol Why even bother wasting devs time making these? The mount is not even worth all the time it takes to get, but I guess some ppl might like it, though luck for them. D:

More than likely I will try to go for that achievement because tigers are cool. Moreover, that would be a big pat on the back for me since I had the patience to go through the madness; yeah, it's going to take a long time because of early pullers lol
The idea is to keep someone either playing constantly or playing for years. It's not a requirement, it's a reward. If someone did all that and got nothing then what? The reward can't be gamebreaking so most are just cosmetic and this one is coincidentally just a mount. Whoever gets that mount will have a badge of honor.
