About the looks of the new raid gear

They should have made this ugly stuff the free hand out AF3 gear and made the current AF3 gear the raid gear.

Yeah my AF3 set is glamouring over this one for sure.

These are the worst sets I've seen in general, in a long time. should of done ff5 theme.

They did soooooo good with the 70 antiquated sets... and then this. Immediate glamour inc.

I think the gear is gorgeous, they just picked the wrong spot for it. >>;

So Yoshida only had the option between "cyperpunk" and "samurai"? They could have based the sets of the bosses we fought in Omega 1-4.
These sets are an eyesore.

I'm really not liking the excessively bulky old-world samurai look of them. Given the origins of Omega I was expecting something more... advanced looking. And there's very little difference in appearance between each set. Even the healer outfit looks like it should go on a tank.
But, well, that's what glamour prisms are for I suppose. Better luck next tier.

Who is this 'everyone' and why do they speak for me?

I enjoyed a lot of the sets from Alexander, some less than others.

The melee and tank outfits don't look much different, tbh

I really do not like the design of this gear. I can't make glamour prisms to cover it up fast enough. :c

My only problem is that it's asian looking gear on something that happens on the "western" side of the expansion. I understand that it's the theme of the expansion, but I feel like both cultural sides should be represented equaly. As for now I feel like there's a small bias towards Doman design in contrast to Ala Mighan design in the expansion. Maybe later on higher tiers of the raid we'll see more diversity. It just deosn't make sense to me to get ancient samurai looking gear by doing a raid in the midst of a middle eastern area that doesn't even resemble the raid in the slighest.

It's ugly, yep.

But since proper etiquette calls for me to glamour everything into RDM AF, I wasn't gonna wear it anyway.

Why is the new raid gear asian-related? It doesnt make any sense.

First of all, I m ok with asian-related gear (if its not ugly of course). I m ok if we can get some of this stuff from PvP and dungeons. But why was it so necessary to put in Omega, too? Dont we have enough gear based on asian designs? Do we really need even more Samurai- or Ninja-looking gear?

I mean, when I was looking for Omega, I ve expected something different. Different from Gyr Abania and different from Othard. Something, that acutally match with the futuristic/allagan style of Omega itself. If you look at the good old Coil or Alexander Raid, you find gear which actually match with the theme. Coil got dreadwyrm/allagan gear, Alexander got gold/alexandian-like gear. I m not an expert, but Omega is far away of being "asian" ; )

I m sorry, but this gear is not worth it!

I want to add that I don't like the gear either, but specifically I want to add that above that I was absolutely stunned to see the gear we got.

Based on what happens, I fully expected ironworks style gear or gear modeled after Omega. My guess on the gear's look wasn't even close.

Why does the Ala Mhigo section have eastern armor? All of the Doma stuff was eastern. Overall it looks atrocious and not fantasy like at all. For Honor fans will enjoy the sets but for a fantasy game where anything can be made it's pretty disappointing. No the EX version with a different color texture wont change anything. The fending set on any female except maybe Roes looks terrible and too big for them especially the waist plates. Fending set looks great on male Roes but that's about it...I think that was their model body while developing them. I also find it funny how SAMs don't get the actually SAM set (fending) that'd you see SAM wearing in ALL THE OTHER FF GAMES.

Came to this conclusion after posting and editing: The Omega raid tier should've been the Doma Castle drops.

I saw the armour in-game and for my taste (colour schemes apart) they are gorgeous. They are the closest thing to an historical representation of true samurai/Japanese armour sets.

As a samurai main, I'm very disappointed in the mnk/sam set. I don't know what aesthetic they were going for but it looks like a bulky mess. While the armor overall is bulky, at least the tank set is symmetric. The mnk/sam looks like they are trying to copy Zenos's terrible armor set or something. I'm more disappointed because the drg/nin set is pretty much everything I could've asked for, but samurai will never be able to use it.

I don't really like the art style used for the armor in this game to begin with. This set is especially bad though, if you ask me. It's so bad I might actually bother glamouring it. I don't care for the theme and it's extremely bland on top of that.

Kinda the same thing that is annoying me. White Mages typically have white robes with red triangles ... and now that's that's theme carried on to the other healers -.-

At least now they can maybe stuff away that excuse for why we cant glam whatever we can wear... They often said "to keep job identiy/players dont get confused". Well now we are all SAMURAI! Not confusing at all. Right? :rolleyes:

Here's hoping the 24 man sets are better.
SE is dropping the ball this expansion.

Most of the crafted gear (And quest rewards) are palette swapped HW dungeon gear.
Most of the dungeon gear is either the same set just slightly altered (Thank you underwater Raen for your homogeneous style. No really, so great), or recolored Doman gear from HW 3.0.
And now these bland sets that make everyone look like a Samurai.

The armor design team needs a kick in the pants for how lazy they've been this expansion.

It's really ugly armor... Can we just go back to Bahamut?

What a shame. Cyberpunk and steampunk looks can be really cool. The question it inspire me is : Is that really the problem or rather... Do they miss that much imagination?

That's right western people and eastern people don't exactly have the same tastes. Asian cyberpunk/steampunk and western cyber/steampunk are different. Western is usually more serious and dark.

But that's a pity, we miss something that -really- looks like cyber/steampunk with the gothic/victorian touch or futurist touch. For now, when there is something that try to look like victorian, it looks like doll.

Anyway, that may happen later, after all, we can expect this game is planned to live at least around 6-10 years so... there is still 5.xx, 6.xx, 7.xx and who now? Maybe more :-D

My question is why give us Far Eastern-inspired gear for a raid that isn't at all related to the Far East? And we get the gear from the Ironworks, who really have no reason to have the gear in the first place... :B

For the record, I hated the steampunk look of the Alex gear (especially Midas). Cyberpunk on the other hand I really like.

Well, let's be happy we got Glamour at least.

i liked the steam punk look for alexander but this is just awful. maybe itll get better in the 2nd tier and be best n the 3rd tier. Until then, im glad the glamour system is functional

People have been clamouring for samurai Asian themed gear. So we got it.

I recall during the Live Letter that they wanted to make the FFXIV version of the Genji Armor, so everyone is going to look like Samurai.

Hopefully Omega's second and third tiers have different aesthetics, cause frankly I'm not a fan of this one.
