I never thought about that, and you're right, I would laugh aswell.

Believe me when I say I'd rather see this race, or anything else over Viera; but from a design perspective, I'd fully understand why the devs wouldn't/couldn't upgrade them to playable. And no, I'm not talking about their legs; the Lupin NPCs I've seen so far have very "normal" looking legs (and a cat-boy/Au'ra run), albeit armored-covered.
For one, from what I can tell so far, they all pretty much have the same face. And not just face, like same model, clothes (there are exceptions), eyes, etc. The kind of thing you see on most beast tribes save for special NPCs. Which leads me to believe that the devs really have no intention of giving them to players to customize if none of them is set apart from the rest so far.
Which leads me to my 2nd issue: I don't think they'd customize well. I mean I could be proved wrong, but clearly this race wouldn't have as much customization options as the current ones. Well, I suppose they could, but I don't know how much out of their way the devs would go for a single race. I do fear if they gave color options for their fur like current races' hair, there'd be a rainbow of wolves running around...
tldr: while I wouldn't mind, I don't find it remotely likely or plausible.
I would prefer Lupin over any other race. Seems like they have the core stuff in place. Maybe it's plausible?
who cares about lupin we we can have the real new cool race

Said it in another thread but I could see them adding Majora Mask sort of deal to the game, this could allow them to create lore friendly "beast races" for players AND get around gear clipping issues.
For example "but we have to redo shoes and helmets" becomes doesn't matter, because you're glamouring the equipment on lol. Also could mean they bring some of the Au Ra's more wild concept art images.
Could get a lot of options from this with comparatively less work than doing a race (since the lore is just in talking something about the masks, and then adding whatever you wanted).
life size minion would sufice.
I wouldn't mind a wolf type race but the lupin looks like they took a dog head and put it on a human body I don't like it. But if they redesign it to something like this I'll be all over it.

Nah.
Beastmen are shunned regardless of their intelligence, unless we got c@'s 2.0, they would get chased out of Ul'dah in a second. I could honestly only see them being locked to start in Limsa.
Also, consider the player base. Square would have nothing to gain from making another race for people to barely play.
ew no.

Lupin model looks dumb as heck.
Also ninja turtle race before dog people.
Would people accept a Viera race becoming official? http://cdn4.dualshockers.com/wp-cont...376.jpg?5f8928
I'm afraid of quicksands people making out with futa dogs :(
They will most likely satisfy the majority of the playerbase by introducing viera next expansion.
Westerners might like this sort of race but in the asia side nobody likes them so sorry. :(
This is what I think a lot of furries and people who like fur-kin often don't consider. It'd be different if it was a distinctly western title like Skyrim, and the default male is pretty much a Highlander. Not calling OP a furry, but they're usually the people who request it the most.
There's lots of potential for differences in Viera. We obviously aren't getting 'Viera' as we know it from FF12, but surely if we get them we'll be getting a variety of them that exists in the FF14 universe.
It would be interesting if we could have a racial option where the women had more taller/muscular options and men had more feminine options to choose from. That would at least be a throwback to the way Viera lived in FF12 with women being the fighters. (At the very least, it could be a sub-racial option that relates to one of the tribes we'd get to pick from).
Lupin look like they'd be even more difficult than Viera to implement, but I'd still encourage people to draw up their own renditions of how it could work. :)

Ultimately, anything that cuts the miqo'te population in half is a worthy race - it just saddens me that that means we will be seeing a 'sexy' or 'adorable' or 'cute' race coming in the future rather than something that's just different.
Makes me sad the majority of people are saying no because either a: it's furry (lol) or b: I don't think it's pretty enough.
Personnaly i'm more into anantas
folks keep asking for these kinds of races. which I find strange when it has been proven time and time again that these kinds of races are the fewest to get selected. soo do you want better game content or a race only a handful of players will play? also I see a lot of complaining about cute or sexy races yet for all the bluster about them they are the Most popular. so the game designers are going to make what is most popular.
sad but true
Here come the furries again...
I'm sure when you do their quests you can get your fursuit.
You ever thought that the people asking for them are... the people who would play them...? It's not like we currently have any options. I'd roll a character of a race designed like the one linked previously in this thread in a heartbeat!
That said, SE has this really awful way of rending fur, so I'm not sure it would end up looking nearly as good...
We need a mix between it. ;) Like this:

Would buy a fantasia as soon as it were announced.
The moment I saw this in my MSQ I lost it! I want to play this race, as much as I like my Miqo'te I really only chose it because it's the only one race that felt close to what I wanted which is this! I'll be honest I really don't care for any of the playable races in this game. But I play the game because of my love of the Final Fantasy Franchise. (Also for those that'll label me as a furry, your right.)
Please don't. We can do better
That's what they look like to me. Reminds me of Elder Scrolls, where the lizard and cat people have the same human body as everyone else but with different heads. Severe uncanny valley.
