I've been off work for the past week with illness, I don't think my boss would take too kindly to me booking Friday off as well. :P
Never play on a patch day. Even though Heavensward launch went quite smoothly IIRC, I did not take the day off on Friday, just in case.
Yup, taking Friday and the entire next week off. Can't wait! ^^
Honestly I am cautious about it. I spent more time staring at a queue than playing the game when I took the time off for heavensward.
Friday: Work till 16:30
Saturday: Afternoon work on my terrace
Sunday: planned 6-10 Hours work in my mothers garden
Next week: Normal working hours
tl:dr
I just keep living like always. Why bother racing to be the very first if that doesn't even matter the slightest?
I work as a volunteer at a local tv station, but I actually took friday off :P Not because I want to "race", but because I'm just really looking forward to playing this expansion. However, it seems like I may not be able to play after all. Because my PC kinda died yesterday. *fml* Worst timing ever. Praying I can manage getting a new one before SB hits.
LOL not everybody is doing it for the sake of racing. It's an expansion full of content that people want to enjoy. There are features like new jobs or story or dungeons that people have been waiting for ages, so they can't wait to give it a try. Some people have different ways to deal with it.
I have Pld at 60, Whm at 59, 1 crafter at 60 and the rest is at 50 / a little higher.
I still have an insane amount of Achievements to do. I still have a lot of classes to lvl.
Why should i rush one class to lvl 70, denying myself enjoyment of the story just to say "HAH, i was at 70 on day 2, scrubs."
Idk, i just cant relate to such things. As someone who is working in a full time job i just don't feel like an mmo should have such an impact on my life, and i absolutely cannot understand people putting so much time into the game that they can claim "there is nothing more to do" "i am bored" "this game needs more content" "Why is everything so easy" "Why can we beat XYZ in 1 Week when we only raided 10hours for 5 days straight".
Yes, and beeing able to play the desired class / content 1 day after release instead of 2-3-4-5 days after release.... changes their life in which way?
I can allready see topics
"I dont like Red mage, i waited 2 years, why is it shit"
"Why can you lvl to 70 in 1 day if you only do fates"
"Why XYZ if you continue to play for 1 week straight"
"Why Why Why Why"
And if you look closely, its mostly gonna be people who do nothing buy play play play play play play straight after release.
Oh, and dont forget conntection issue topics. Loving those :D
So what? It's their problem not yours. For some people it's a big deal and they have the right to complain about they don't like. Do you think that people who won't rush won't complain either? It's fine if YOU don't want to devote time to the game as others (or myself) will, and you exposed your reasons why (irl, which is completely fine). But attacking people because they will? tsk, tsk, tsk... I don't know what's your problem with them, to be honest. :/
Depends I have rushed the storyline too, some people like myself want all the crafters/gathers and a main up before 4.1. If that means I have to rush the MSQ and watch it on Youtube after I will. The only people who get bored are the ones who are focused on one thing i.e I am only playing this or I am only raiding, crafting or pvp. Sometimes I feel there is not actually enough time in the day to do what I need to get done.
Not sure where you see me attacking people, considering i speak hypotheically about what is in my opinion going to happen. I havent named anyone, and i havent attacked anyone.
If you feel like it was offensive, apologies. Yes, i do stick to my usuall life.
No i can't understand why people "rush".
No i can't udnerstand why people need things "faster" just because they have been waiting for it longer.
Will leave my other post up tho so people dont accuse me of deleting unwanted things.
Yeah, i never get to actually finish all the things i wanted to do before i have to go to sleep :(
I'm mainly taking that time off so I can do the MSQ before it's spoiled for me like it already happened a few times. Nothing to do about rushing things. I also want to do new content when it's still new, before all of the guides are out as I like to figure stuff out myself, and in the past, even in normal patches, there were people already saying you should watch the guide on day 2 of release, or they will kick you. If the entire party goes into content fresh, the chance of those things happening is much lower.
Booked 16th-23rd off. I will be going at my own leisurely pace.
I have Friday off, but mostly because my manager ruined my work schedule. How well.
dont think it matters anyway, we'll all end up being bored by the tomestone grinding again after 2 weeks :)
No new raids till 2 weeks after the 20th but yes i would, i am calling out of few thing i promised i'd do! Im hyped for new story and combat system & pvp xp, secure and slaughter revival <3
At my old job where I had to work the weekend, I had already put in for PTO time months ago. But since then I have changed jobs and already have the weekend off anyways. I know I wont finish the main story by then though, I like to take my time. I honestly wont be surprised if people who get theirs on the 20th actually finish the story before me. XD
As for you if you should take it off. It's literally up to you and how you want to play. Want to avoid spoilers? Want to experience a little bit sooner? Do you have the time available to take off?
Edit: On a side note. I played Heavensward as soon as servers went up then, and the servers seemed fine/stable then. And I had no log in wait time. Then again, my server is Famfrit, so it's not nearly as big as some of the other well known servers.
Balmung during Heavensward was shockingly stable. The queue was long as hell but once I got through that I don't remember getting kicked off until I had to go do something at 3 or 4 PM the Friday of early access and when I returned that Sunday everything was running just fine.
I only work 5 hours on Friday.....not by choice. I rather work 12.
A golden rule people should follow more often: Never take a day off on release day.
It happens quite often in alot of games that the servers will crash and sometimes the servers might be up for an hour or two the whole day if you put the time together.
I've read so many hate posts, threats for ones life and even trying to bring in lawyers since they paid to play but can't.
Complaining how they took a day or two off and not being able to play.
The game will take anything from 5 hours to 10 to download, no point in taking the day off.
Friday is a bridge day for me. So I have the day of anyway, as my company is generally closed on bridge days. Lucky me. :)
I scheduled the 16th off as well as leaving work 2 hours early on the 15th to do weekend chores. I plan on getting up an hour in advance and, assuming it wasn't available before I went to bed, starting the download.
Should have enough time then to shower and head to WalMart for snacks. Thank goodness for 24 hour WalMarts. Once I'm on, it's time to grind, because samurai. See how far I get before tabletop night. I'll probably need the break!
I feel a better golden rule would be to keep your expectations in check. I took the day off this Friday due to how smoothly Heavensward (even on Balmung) went but with that being said while I will be disappointed if the servers explode, it is to be expected. If you are able to take the day off and play uninterrupted them that's just icing on the cake of a three day weekend.
I have a bunch of client meetings on the 16th, followed by a 4-hour cross-country flight that puts me home well after midnight. Saturday is my 20th wedding anniversary, and the missus already has the entire day planned out.
So if I'm lucky, I'll get to finally log on sometime Sunday morning. :(
Friday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to no life the hell out of this launch :D
That's one of the things I really love about this game on a personal level, I have Friday's off and naturally get up at 4:30 AM EST anyway so it's just like another day for me. Instead of a typical Tuesday video game release that I don't have time (or energy) to touch till Friday I don't have to change my schedule around or take off from work to enjoy the launch.
I missed out on HW mostly, I was there for the launch but had most of my stuff stolen just a few days after it's launch and by the time I was able to get around to getting a new system I felt so behind and deflated I just gave up on it - my old FC had moved on without me. Looking forward to experiencing the launch of SB and hopefully much less drama this time around.
OMG that sucks! So sorry for you :(
I am not but have next week as holiday :)
Taking off for online games is always a risky proposition. You waste sick days at work and then the game goes down or something and you're just boned. New servers or not it seems risky to do anything more then just a day.
No matter if you take a day off or not, you'll hear random voidjumper cry "NO BONUS BE EXPPPP" soon enough. Enjoy the silence being at work <3
... or get devoured by the fear that someone spoilers afterwards...
I'll do though, enjoying a 600+ queue, then rage of the universe about the everyday camper roegadyn inside the quest giver, making it impossible talking to him, meeting the "I'm new so better use skip-potion"-guys thinking it's just another WoW (though I don't want to doubt that this can happen) and maybe get redpilled.
Cry, if they continue the GoT-thing...
And of course trying to get to know fights enough to play them smoothly, even when there's always this guy screaming at you in rage while falling off a cliff. His look, a mix of anger, despair and lack of skill ... time freezes. Zooom on your face. You're laughing, knowing "Rescue" is available but you cannot use it.
This moment is your very reason to exist, to see the screaming guy how he fails, right in front of you, the group. They all see it. After this very short moment time will run like always, the flame will flood your chat, the [insert random class] will turn into AST for straight 2 minutes, telling you what you could have done, what you will do, what you do now, what you do in the future.
Then, you see the future... he's falling of the cliff again. <3
I have work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This does not change my goal of finishing the MSQ before I have a real day off on Monday the 19th.
It might affect my ability to accomplish said goal......but we'll see
If anything I would take Monday off MAYBE!! If I considered a video game to be worth wasting PTO on.
Friday PDT2pm is when it is scheduled to be over, I doubt it will be. But that puts it done at 4pm CNT which is pretty much when I would get off work anyway. ^^
