i remember something about being able to build airships in your basement once housing comes around... There must be more to this as there needs to be a reason to build airships and i don't think we are talking about making massive airships. Smaller Personal ones for free roam, or structured flights
I think it would be cool of there was an "Air" zone above the world where airships can travel around, possibly to new continents once the world is expanded, all the while being able to see the terrain below you. put a Sky city up there as well and some airship PVP. If we can build our own airships and equip them as we see fit I could see that being great PvP content.
I do not think we should have personal flying machines (also there weren't any in the intro - are you referring to the viewpoint character at one point standing on the balcony of one of those flight-capable Garlean walkers? 'Cause those things I'm pretty sure are crewed by two or three people).
What I do think we should have are airships under our own control, with an eye to modification and combat systems down the line. But solo-flight systems are just.. meh. They take away more than they add, in my opinion.
I thought that personal / free company airships had all ready been confirmed. They've definitely confirmed that we will have a basement to build them in under the player houses.
Not only that, the development team must prepare 2.0 for flying in order to have truly flying monsters! I understand a bomb or a fly swarm hovering, but a bird? an arihman? Come on.
Monsters should be able to truly fly in 2.0, only certain type of monsters to hover above the ground. It will add to combat dynamic because flying monsters will be able to reach all the terrain rapidly and could go out of reach of melee players without throwing attacks (making throw and ranged attacks much more prized to have).
Just like it is considered a huge flaw by today's standard to not have the ability to jump (among other things), not having true flight would be deadly to FFXIV's reputation in 2.0.
i personally dont want to see the sky littered with people flying
Let's us fly JET!
Just look down or close your eyes.
Even with a free form of flying, it wouldn't happen. The zones are big and people travel in groups, you are most likely to see 1 epic flight of airship (which would be awesome considering we are at war) once in while than a sky filled with airship all the time anywhere you are (this is not a Star War movie). Think chocobo, do you see millions of chocobos everywhere all the time? No, same with airship (especially since they should be harder to acquire).
If anything, an airship would make for a wonderful gil sink.
Would you like to buy an airship for 50 mil directly from an NPC, buy the 25,000 mats required to build it or just slowly collect everything yourself before getting it built.
Then there's maintenance. "You're airship is at 24%. It'll cost 200k to repair your airship from an NPC, which will rendered it unusable for an hour." Or you could do the repairs yourself and have it available immediately.
I'd like flying. I don't know why people are so closed minded about it. It was always in all the other MMO I've played and made it fun :) Could avoid aggro that way too lol >.>
I wouldn't mind the ability to personally maneuver flying creatures/vehicles, but content would have to be developed around them and it'd have to be tastefully implemented.
but he had a point any1 that played in beta that came back now would think this is big changes. so with new servers, new battle system, the job system, all the primals, a new look world and a new game engine. i'm sure any1 that played alpha and thought oo this is rubbish and left, if they come back in 2.0 i bet they think its a different game
its a bit like your child growing, you never really notice it. but an outsider that hasn't see him or her in half a year
first thing they say is "oo havn't they grown"
Seeing as it's open world (I prefer zones). Flying would be epic but not too fussed about the feature.
