hey its my first time tankin level sixty roulette haha
It seems kinda sad skipping out on all those adventures, but to each their own I guess :(
I watched a live stream on twitch where they were discussing how people define P2W. The point is specially for older MMO players, leveling is suppose to weed out some players, If a player can't get through the grind of content it is one less person at the end/win. They discussed it a lot better. Player retention in 11 showed most players never made it to 50. So they in no way could win, they quit. They may have been better players. But you can't win if you don't play.
Got some friends I can try and get into FFXIV now. The long grind of MSQ turned them off initially but I encouraged them to try it that way.
Well this is awkward. Spent the last week grinding out MSQ.
Well, at least I know I won't be queue'ing for dungeons without full group. :p
For a while at least.
those include job lvls right?
While it makes me nervous for new players who purchase them and then come into high level content rather clueless (and who miss out on the great freakin story), as someone who has already done two characters through the whole MSQ and has several more between 30-50 that need to do it, thank god. Especially for that push between ARR and HW.
Please do not give associated achievements/titles/items to players who "earned" them with level/story boosting items.
The people that buy those items will not care that they don't have the "Nidhogg Slayer" title, but the players who actually earned that title will.
i'll miss papalymo's final witness title...only those who have been to date till now and where there before the change to the new version know it
This is an excellent change.
I kinda wished job boost potions didn't complete the job quests.
They were always a good introduction to your role (which seems important to Yoshi when you listen to him) and made you use your toolkit.
Plus, if I wanted to boost a job, I'd still want to live through those quests.
Sorry but no matter how much I think about this, these potions totally seem like Pay to Win. I'm a returning player. I'm pushing through this content, grinding out jobs and trying to experience as much of this game as I can and putting in all that effort. Only here comes Mr. Lv5 noob; "HEY BRAH, *Gulps down P2W potion*, SEE YA AT THE LINE FINISH BRAH *WAVES*". ME: *SPEECHLESS*.. My motivation to keep playing this game is slowly diminishing knowing that there are people literally just skipping 75% of the games content with the click of button. Square-Enix is basically just telling me what I'm doing right now is completely pointless, buy one of these nifty pay 2 win potions and you'll be good.
It would truly be a P2W situation if the Mog Station had the same items that drop in, say, Omega Savage 1-4. *THAT* would truly be P2W. But that's not what's going on here.
All these potions do is catch you up. One sort of potion takes you to Patch 3.0 or 4.0, and the other sort of potion gets a job to level 60. Not 70. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to catch up to the beginning of Stormblood. They'll have to go through the Stormblood MSQ just like everyone else. Take a look at it this way: once you are done with the MSQ for Patch 3.56, you won't have to worry about being left behind once the expac is released.
If all of this is diminishing your desire to continue playing this game, then maybe this isn't the game for you. I have been playing this game since 2013 and I can honestly say that I've had a great time since then. These "potions" do not affect me in any way, nor should it affect you.
I don't really understand this mindset. Reaching endgame isn't really "winning" -- everyone's going to get there eventually. It's not (at least in my view) as clearly defined of a "finish line" as you seem to think. Who really cares if they get there faster by paying to not play the game? If you're "trying to experience as much of the game as you can," why would you care about optional items that rob you of that experience? Is what you're doing "pointless" if you're enjoying the content and learning to play more effectively at the same time?
sounds like you shouldn't be playing games to begin with. this is a game play for fun all of that stuff your doing is an experience your supposed to enjoy it what anyone else is doing as long as its not exploiting and cheating should have no bearing on you. if it does it has nothing to do with them and everything to do with you.
I would not stoop to such levels. I'm really not that desparate to reach the new expansion content. However, that crushing feeling that I'm just wasting my time will probably never go away knowing that in the back of my mind this option to skip 75% of the games content with the click of a button actually exists. And I imagine a lot of new players that join this game will also have that same feeling. Not every new player is going to want to skip content. But I don't think they will be as motivated to go through that early content knowing that pretty much everyone has moved onto the new expansion and Square-Enix is dangling a P2W potion in their faces. I wish I didn't stop playing before the heavensward expansion.. Then I would actually be caught up to everyone and this wouldn't feel as bad.
I get the feeling, but level boost potions are basically an industry standard at this point. Also, they are mostly used by people who have already gone through the grind and don't want to do it again on an alt. A lot of games provide a free one with expansions and such, and even then a lot of new players will level a character up to max the good ol' fashioned way first to avoid feeling completely lost.
What you're doing right now isn't pointless. Try to enjoy the journey more, and don't stress out over what others are doing so much.
Cant wait for Savage level gear to be put on the mogstation. Itleast now it will be legit pay to win goto SE over people selling savage runs for rmt.
Not sure where you are getting at? The first two ads shown on the ff reddit are links to RMT websites that offer runs for gear and even sell 260 I level accounts and Savage mounts. Seems like a legit comment imo. Its already happening so it least SE will get the funds directly over third parties.
I just wonder if there's a limitation on the job boost potion, like must be lvl 60 on a job before you can boost a different one.
Or can I make a brand new level 1 char, boost it to 60, then burn the msq as a 60?
And will that let you have access to the HW jobs sooner? Make a new lvl 1, boost a 60 drk, then off you go.
buddy posted me a pic from another site so i thought id drop the txt here...... pay attention to the last line....

I have an alt I've not done the MSQ past getting my bird and retainers.... can I use the story boost on her? Or did they not mention partially played characters?
I'm really surprised they did the level and job skip stuff at Stormbloods release, I am not looking forward to doing the early stormblood content with people who have never been in a dungeon before...
