Ama, this is neither new, nor something that the devs can address, it's player behavior and sadly, there is no patch for that.
Friendly reminder that the blacklist exists.
Also a friendly reminder that miscommunication may not necessarily be anyone's fault: seems to me that Ama judged this "adversary" far too harshly and abused their vote-kick, as the "spamming" was likely a panicking player desperately calling for help and seemingly receiving nothing but contempt for their troubles.
On a more personal note, I hope I personally never find my way into one of Ama's parties, because I think I'd rather eat the 30 minute penalty and go do something else.
There is a patch for that and its called "Make your own party" - specially for PotD thats not to much to ask because it doesnt require four people but any number between one and four. This content was designed to allow flexible parties.
If you chose the comfort that is DF to get smoother runs with more people, you also chose the risk of running into people who'd prefer to play the game in a different, but still legit way. If you are unable to deal with that properly - and from all that I can see Ama and her friends are (getting upset because someone doesnt help you to clean up your own mess? I'm sorry that I'm repeating myself here, but to me this sort of behaviour seems kinda... rude-ish. Maybe I'm sensitive, but it leaves that sour aftertaste that someone is considering themself more important than the rest - seperating from the group, having people waiting for your, so the whole group can progress and then you even go and pull more than you can handle yourself...? Maybe thats just me, but if you leave the group in PotD, I expect you to be able to look after yourself - shouldnt be to difficult, the place can be solo'd after all. If you're constantly making it clear that you wont consider my intrests but are instead banking on me to safe you all the time, I feel used - and I dont like that.)
I would like to see one of her parties live by now, tbh - just to be able to evaluate whos the real "toxic" person in question. We're always only hearing on side of the story - I'd like to see the whole picture by now. Different datacenter for me, will never happen, but still... as I just described the whole "help"-macro-thing can come off two ways: Ama chooses to picture it as the poor damsel in distress thats left to die - while for me it seems more and more like someone getting upset about other people not obeying them and using randoms in DF to their personal advantge - but maybe I'm a bit to extreme here now... still... would like to see that in action and judge for myself...
Hilarious posts aside, I saw a neat little survey, so I'mma go take that.
Part I
-How many times do you do PotD (Floors 51+) in a week and how many floor brackets do you do?
Incinsistent; usually once or twice a week, and usually just one bracket if I do. unless my friends wanna run 101+, then we'll knock like 60 floors of that out at once.
I'm at 99/99 aetherpool and got all the loot from potsherds, so I don't really need to go back unless it's for EXP.
-Following the above question, how many people do openly speak up about wanting to speedrun and if so, which floor brackets do you most encounter them in?
People don't usually speak up at all, but it tends to be implied heavily on 51-60 and then less so as you move further on. Some folks will just sit on the cairn of passage without saying a word.
-By that same note, how many people do openly speak up about wanting silver chests and/or explore all rooms and if so, which floor brackets do you most encounter them in?
Pretty much no one. If they do, I make an effort to check for chests. No one explores all rooms. If this happens at all, it's generally on floors lower than 50.
-From a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being extremely satisfied and 1 being extremely unsatisfied, how would you rate your overall weekly completions of floor brackets:
Since I tend to do wither 51-60, or shotgun the whole thing, I can't really give an assessment of each set. But I don't have any problems with deep dungeon runs with pugs 90% of the time. I'd say 4 is accurate.
Part II
-When no one speaks up, list your main preferred or habitual style of PotD play
*Mixed speedrun, killing only what needs to be killed but pick chests if they're in the same room
This is my default. And probably what I'll still do regardless, unless the majority of the group is vehement as to otherwise.
-When someone requests any of the above playstyles, do you comply:
-Every time?
-Sometimes?
-Almost never?
-At a whim?
-If the majority also agrees?
-If the majority does not agree?
Usually. It's if the majority agrees, but also if the request is polite and well-articulated. If they call me toxic for not adhering to their whims for instance, they can get the hell out.
-Do you request a preferred style in PotD? If so, how many times a week?
Nah, I usually just go with the flow.
-By that same note, how many times does at least one party member complies with your request in a week?
I generally don't have any, so every time?
-Have you ever wanted to kick someone because they did not comply?
Yes, but generally only when their attitude becomes unsavory as well.
-Have you ever actually kicked someone because they did not comply?
Hell yeah.
Part III
-Do you have a pet peeve in PoTD, aside from what might have been mentioned in the previous parts of the questionnaire? If so, how do you deal with it?
I really wish people would stop pulling mobs off of me when I'm rolling melee. I know, tanks gonna tank, and people wanna focus fire, but if it's just one mob and I'm playing a punchman, just let me handle it. I got it, dude. Hell, I got it for up to like 3 mobs. Unless, y'know, there's nothing else to hit or what have you. Small maps happen.
-If you could improve PotD in anyway, pls check the following (multiple answers eligible)
*Exp increase
*Exp decrease
*Monster increase
*Monster decrease
*Increased silver chests
*Decreased silver chests
*Increased aethergear gain rate
*Decreased aethergear gain rate
*Easier progression
*Harder progression
*Other (pls explain)
I am all for more mobs as to rejoice in the glory of combat, but in terms of progression, I feel like aetherpool is more of a tax than anything, since it's required for 51+ in certain amounts and influences damage taken and done more than I'd like.
If I wanna keep running 101+, I don't really have a chance to grab kinna weapons,
for instance. EXP is fine, it's still best in the game. Progression is fine, if I can do 101+ I can handle 51-100 easy peesy. I'd like to see more special encounters, though, like the dead NPCs and stuff. Those are fun, but just too rare.
...Maybe let me exchange potsherds for crystal sand. That'd be nice.
Kicking someone for telling you the name of an ability when you don't know how to play your class seems pretty rude, honestly.
Either way, matched groups don't exist to carry you. If you want to wander off on your own and waste everyone's time, don't blame them when you're in over your head.
--------------------------------------------
Part I
-How many times do you do PotD (Floors 51+) in a week and how many floor brackets do yo do?
I don't know. Probably 10 sets or more a week when I'm doing them. I'll probably do 12 sets of floors today and then I'll be done leveling characters, so I'll stop doing PotD until RDM and SAM are a thing.
-Following the above question, how many people do openly speak up about wanting to speedrun and if so, which floor brackets do you most encounter them in?
I think only one person has ever explicitly asked for one.
-By that same note, how many people do openly speak up about wanting silver chests and/or explore all rooms and if so, which floor brackets do you most encounter them in?
A few, but usually people just take whatever is conveniently located.
-From a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being extremely satisfied and 1 being extremely unsatisfied, how would you rate your overall weekly completions of floor brackets:
A) 51-60
3
B) 61-70
3
C) 71-80
3
D) 81-90
3
E) 91-100

Part II
-When no one speaks up, list your main preferred or habitual style of PotD play
*Pure speedrun, kill only what needs to be killed to get passage open, no chests
Realistically I'll grab some chests, if I feel like it, but I don't even necessarily grab every chest on my way and I outright refuse to touch silvers.
-When someone requests any of the above playstyles, do you comply:
-Sometimes?
It's a matched group, so I do what I want and they can do whatever they want. I may not be thrilled about it, but whatever. I was more helpful before I had run PotD like 150 times and got bored of it.
-Do you request a preferred style in PotD? If so, how many times a week?
No.
-By that same note, how many times does at least one party member complies with your request in a week?
N/A
-Have you ever wanted to kick someone because they did not comply?
Yes.
-Have you ever actually kicked someone because they did not comply?
No, I've only kicked people for being obnoxious.
Part III
-Do you have a pet peeve in PoTD, aside from what might have been mentioned in the previous parts of the questionnaire? If so, how do you deal with it?
People who seem to think we can level past 60. At least I assume that's what they think, given that they constantly pull 600 more mobs than we need. I just complain about them to my friend in Skype and typically do nothing to help them.
-If you could improve PotD in anyway, pls check the following (multiple answers eligible)
*Exp increase
*Monster decrease
*Increased aethergear gain rate
*Easier progression
*Harder progression
PotD is boring and I only care about the rewards when in matched groups, so naturally anything that lowers the amount of effort or increases the rewards is good with me.
Solution: Either run a fixed party or solo.
This thread sounds familiar... Oh wait:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-harassment%29
This is the same person who called me a troll just for giving an opinion. Imagine my surprise to look at this thread to see who the author was...
The issue is player created and thus has a player solution. The devs gave the Join as Fixed party to combat this.
With that said, everyone does PotD or any other dungeon a bit differently. Speedrunning isn't wrong, neither is the other way. Its the players responsibility to come to a consensus. If one cannot be reached then the group should part ways.
Think about it. Why would you want to be in a group with someone with different playstyle or goal and neither wants to change? This question hasn't be asked and therefor has not been answered. But everyone should sit here and read and think about it and answer it.
If the players in a group cannot agree or do not wish to play a compromise, they should vote disband the duty. That would avoid arguments.
I am not sure if I should cry or laugh that someone believes that the scholar does not have a dispell spell. ._. Kicking someone because your "friend" somehow does not even know their own class skill is way more toxic than someone not helping against a monster.
I am also not sure why you need to post for your friends. If they have a problem maybe they should just create a topic themselves instead of sending you over to do so for them. Especially since you were not there yourself thus might not know everything.
Also just a little bit about the palace: This is content that you can do solo. I managed to go to 120 with my summoner completely alone and the biggest problems are only some bosses and DC or laggs. Really why just not run palace with only two people? There is more than enough time to do it that way and they could simply level up their armor in the lower floors. This might take more time but if they want all the chests anyway than this would be better for them. No "toxic" other players too. ;) If you go with them they are even three people, so more than enough to finish it.
Why the heck are you citing Dispel from FFXI? Isn't that the skill name there or something? Dispel with the normal definition by itself is "to remove". Doesn't really matter if it's beneficial or not.
fixed party
boom changed
They should not award xp for this mini game anyway. They should make you actually play the other 99% of the game content to level. *gasp* Shocking, I know...
Huh? Yeah it does. Dispel means to remove something off you are fighting, so removing something that benefits like One Ilm Punch, so my friend was confused why this was being asked when something was dead and during downtime. She also did not see any effect that needed esuna/erase/leeches (w/e term you wanted to use) so asking for "dispell" + insult was way out of line, only to spam leeches on top of that split seconds later? Makes the following quotes simply not true and story twisting:
I did not say this, people need to stop twisting the story around and attempt to fuel toxicity on these forums. You attacking me in this manner is what is rude. (also neglecting I was not in the story itself is also lolworthly, We did a trio for 1 run after one of them couldn't take doing runs anymore due to the mass noncooperation, as in 3 fixed, not 3 +1 random. The 2 that came in to replace the 2 speedrunners where not much better, and the WHM that was a replace was gate rushing with rage even, not using it properly. So the other friend got irritated and made a fixed trio.)
I did not say this, people need to stop twisting the story around and attempt to fuel toxicity on these forums. Now I see why people tell me consistently why they avoid the forums due to toxicity.
dis·pel
dəˈspel/
verb
verb: dispel; 3rd person present: dispels; past tense: dispelled; past participle: dispelled; gerund or present participle: dispelling
make (a doubt, feeling, or belief) disappear.
"the brightness of the day did nothing to dispel Elaine's dejection"
synonyms: banish, eliminate, drive away/off, get rid of; More
But then people would run it for the one-time achievements weapon and fluff items then the content would die because after that, there are much more easier ways to get combat materia than the potsherds. Shocking, I know...
If you're gonna take away the one thing that makes it repeatable content, at least suggest something else to replace it with.
No such thing:
http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Dispel
If that is your slang, that is fine, but don't be aggressive to someone that does not know it and act like they should. Also I find it funny how you pick something from what I said that has little meaning to my point. "English 101" (Yes I know but here is my "English 101" to you, learn implied meaning, I wanted to be clear since people love twisting my stories around) I find what you said very offensive, and continue to be toxic to me and I need to ask why? A civil person would apologize for the misunderstanding you made, but I am guessing you did make it intentionally to attack me. It is posters like you that steer away people from posting "I do not post on the forums because they are too toxic" people tell me and you proven to be part of that problem.
says nothing about game buffs, game buffs is not a doubt, a feeling, or a belief. Like I said, that is no reason to be aggressive to someone that does not understand or recognize your slang. Do not be mean to people because you think they should know the meaning to something when they don't.
Man, I wish they would make content relevant like this for everything. They should make Crystal Tower, Coils, and the earlier Alexanders worth a boat load of xp. Then I could get Aether Oils faster, cause everyone will queue for xp. I could get unidentifiable faster, cause everyone will queue for xp. On second thought, you are right, all content should be pumped full of free xp...everyone likes free stuff.
I stand corrected, thanks for showing me the way.
Why are you using a site that is not about FF14? Different games different effects.
Also one quite bad debuff you can get in PotD is the silence debuff from a trap. This makes most of your attacks useless for nearly 30 seconds. If I remember it right you can dispel this. And my second highest class is scholar and I can say that leeches is the one skill that takes away debuffs.
Really I dont want to sound mean but you are annoyed that others take your story differently but at the same time your story makes it look like you were not even there with your friends, so can you even truly know the whole story?
And still I am not sure why the devs should change a system where you easily could just go with your friends and not meet one single mean person? Just go with them so you are three people and rock the place with nobody else that might have a different opinion than you.
I think the problem here is that many forum goers seem to have it in their head that everyone who plays the game should automatically know everything.
If her friend was fairly new to MMOs and Dispel simply wasn't a word they had encountered before, then of course she's going to get confused and panic. If the person who is asking for that dispel then starts screeching and spamming and being agressive then yes, that is an issue.
It's not hard to have basic manners/communication skills:
1: Dispel!
2: what?
1: Use Leeches on me.
vs
1: Dispel!
2:what?
1: LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHESLEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES LEECHES -
It has nothing to do with whether the word means this or that. If someone does not know, then they don't know.
Tthe first few times I did dungeons and I saw 'lb' pop up, I had no clue what that meant. It seems obvious now of course, but you can't just blame and insult someone for not already knowing everything.
Removing that dispel case from context looks like that. However as you yourself pointed out earlier, it was a culmination of miscommunication during a few floors. And while I say miscommunication, yes, I say it was going on both ways. If I got your original post right, your friends had slammed their help macro to them, while the gate was already open. I understand how it might have been valid help calls from your friends point of view, but consider it might have gone like this.
Gate is open, people head on the gate as is usual from most of their runs. Someone says help, to which they say ok, expecting those said persons being pulling things that bite them to the gate. They wait because that's how they are used to act in such situation. Yet your friends keep spamming the help macro without heading towards them.
That in mind, they might just as well have though your friends were trolling at that point when they asked "what" to a dispell request which, by this thread response, seems to be obvious to everyone else expect you.
I'm not the OP Sida, I'm just pointing out that manners cost nothing, and debating the meaning of dispel is pointless.
I'm not defending the OP either, if you're on the other side of the dungeon to everyone else and spamming 'help' instead of being proactive and just running back to the group, then of course you're going to have a bad time.
On the other hand, if all attempts to communicate with the LEECHES dude has been met with the reply of "?" time and time again, then I can imagine it gets frustrating pretty quick.
You can't cross server pf for deep, and I disagree that we have to use that because of mass toxicity. The PF was not meant to be a work around for mass toxicity and even yoshi-p said before, DF IS NOT MEANT FOR SPEEDRUNS, so do not go in deep, expecting people to have the same mindset of speedrunning.
That is not exactly how it went. As explained several times, "dispell" was first asked for in a rude/sarcastic manner. (keep in mind this followed a few floors of asking for assistance to kill something that went ignored and refused to even communicate well , saying "?" frequently, to something that was asked, like her monster call out macros.)
"dispell genius"
> I do not know what dispell means
leeches
leeches
leeches

*vote kick*
Keep in mind this was on a petrifaction floor and may of not saw a debuff that lasts for 5 seconds? and saw nothing during this spam. Also during the chat spam, everything was dead by then.
For the meaning if "dispell" all she played before was ffxi, so dispel = buff removal off the monster. "dispell" is not in this game so to her the only job that has it is mnk and other moves like it (that I do not know off top my head atm) But yes you have the general idea, I do not know why so many did not get that.
Maybe it's just me, but if I was healing and someone asked for a dispell, I'd immediately think Esuna or the other two variations of said spell. Splitting hairs about what dispell actually means doesn't make me or anyone else more sympathetic to your situation. I'm honestly shocked that you and your friends have so many of these "toxic" runs that you constantly post about. I've been playing this game for 2 1/2 years now and the good runs I have far outshine the few bad ones I've had. Frankly, you seem like the type of person who is far too sensitive. You need thick skin, not just in this game, but in life as well. There's no cure for toxic behavior. The devs can't do anything about it. You know how many runs I've had that could have devolved into something worse if I had responded poorly to it? Plenty. But I'm an accommodating person. If what another player wants is different from what I want, I simply seek a group consensus. Whatever the majority wants is what we do. That's just how it is sometimes. You don't always get your way. It's time you learn that. Pick your battles, my dear. And for the love of Twelve, stop being so kick/report happy. Half of your posts seem to be you kicking or reporting someone. I'm sure some of them are justified, but I highly doubt that every person you report or kick has deserved it.
Except dispel is in the game...though it's not used much. MNK has it: One-ilm punch.
And even if it wasn't in the game, why type a confusing word or a (barely) shorter word that is completely clear?
As for OP, there's no division, it's pretty rare to run into a player like yourself.
And you're shooting yourself in the foot playing like that. Faster runs = more runs = more chests. Grab chests as you go and quit going out of your way; you'll do better in the long run.
Once that teleporter lights up, no one is under any obligation to help you scout anything. You have met the requirements to go to the next floor and following the mechanic that the game provided to do so by standing in it. It is not a violation of ToS to follow a game mechanic property. Is SE intended that you must explore and clear every chest on each floor, then they should not have allowed the mechanic to travel to the next floor to become available until said was accomplished.
Technically, your friends are doing the exact same thing you're complaining about...not participating in the desired result of other party members following equally valid mechanics.
No one is right and no one is wrong. Move on.
Well, this part isn't quite right. If 3 people want to do the runs the way the grand majority of the community has decided to do (and for good reason), but the 4th person wants to go explore every nook for every possible chest, they're in the minority. If that person doesn't conform to the other 3 (even just 2), they're easily voted out. No ToS breaking involved.
This is kinda weird. Everyone's going on about what dispel means, and I'm wondering why the hell someone got an effect on them that needs to be cleaned off in the first place. Every debuff in PotD 1-100 is avoidable. The only exception (due to how traps are sneaky) is the pacification debuff.
Also why don't people carry Eye Drops, Spine Drops, Echo Drops, and Anidotes? They're cheap. I carry a stack of each. They work wonders even in normal dungeons.
Same length, you are still thinking the person typed dispel, they typed dispell, then used leeches from the translate.
So if we say they typed "lee" tab key, that is actually shorter then typing dispell, 4 keys vs 7.
I disagree with "And you're shooting yourself in the foot playing like that. Faster runs = more runs = more chests. Grab chests as you go and quit going out of your way; you'll do better in the long run. "
I seen rooms have 3 silvers in one room before. Plus I think it isn't fair to rush low aetherpool members anyway, how are 20-30 rating supposed to get aetherpool gear? its not going to be in floor 61-100.
But ya I spoke about One-ilm punch in this thread and she is a curious person without a monk in the party, so was confused why that was being asked for... since it is not something she saw before or know about (needing to dispel something)
Lol.. I do not think so, lets go on everything that happened wrong shall we?
Speedrunners entering assuming people will not look for chests, despite HP showing low aeatherpool on 2 people.
Speedrunners not talking to chest runners despite chest runners making an effort to get across they are there for silvers and need help killing a monster or 2 to see all the rooms.
Sitting at gate thing when chest runners made it clear they needed help to explore the rest of the floor
A speedrunner asking for an ability to be used in a negative sarcastic tone. (regardless if it should be understood what it means, doing it in this manner is wrong)
Spamming what they want after it was asked what they mean.
She has no idea what was on them for them to be complaining. There was a floor effect, pacification, adding to the number of things on the party list for debuff/buff menu. In the end it was not critical, as the spam took place when everything was dead and she didn't even see anything to remove at that point, which added to her confusion. Unless... maybe the person had pacification from a trap + the floor effect? harder to notice in that case since there is a limit of effects the party menu lists.
