Wish we can only see emotes of friends from friend list only. Maybe this can help to not get emotes of other players spaming our chat box. Like that we still receive emotes of friends we playing with.

Come one guys it's clear that the OP should be the only one allowed to emote. We are superfluous.
I can understand the OP. But you can just walk away and ignore it. People exp more harsh things ingame then just one spam.
But its also what I dislike about the internet. Always complain while the fix is right in front of you.
wow, really surprised over most people's reaction here.
OP is clearly talking about EXCESSIVE spam, not just a few emotes.
Why do *I* have to rework my chat or even turn off emotes completely, when I *only* want spammers to stop spamming when all it takes for the spammers to uncheck that emote text box?
If the BL was endless, I'd take the suggestion to BL everyone doing that up in a heartbeat. But as its limited, I'd rather save that method for more severe reasons.
As you mightve also read and realized by now, it IS reportable, so it IS considered rude to do so.
I'd also like to point out that I noticed, its quite common for many people to initially have 2-3 of their emotes show up, then turning off the emote text for anything to follow.
In fact, thats what all of my friends do(me too btw) and it goes without saying.
It's a thing called....uhh,you know.... COMMON COURTESY and COMMON SENSE.
You're making it sound like there's gonna be over 200 players near you, excessively spamming emotes, at any given time. The only place where that'll happen is during that one GATE in the Gold Saucer.
So you're complaining about someone not opening their emote list to uncheck a box, when it's just as easy to right-click a name and click add to blacklist. Unless you somehow managed to already get 200 of these 'severe cases' on the list, which I'd find surprising.
Like... how often does this even occur? I barely see emote chat spam anywhere I go. It's also easy enough to avoid it if it's bothering you (leave the area, turn of emote chat, etc...). I guess it also depends what you qualify as spam. Two friends using different emotes on each other, possibly many in a row, isn't necessarily spam so much as them having fun. Spam would be if they are using the same emote over and over and over again (and even then it could be fun to them and not to you). I agree that people should turn off the text messages for emotes if they plan to use a lot at once. But as long as the spam isn't cutting into chat I honestly don't care if people are spamming emotes. It's easy to ignore/tune-out. Much harder to ignore Holy and Ring of Thorns spammers.
Is it really that much of a problem if someone presses an emote a few times? I haven't seen anyone going too excessive with it:
You haven't, but I have. Not often, but it is very annoying when your friends' comments get shunted out of the chat box before you can even fully read them because someone is spamming the same emote over and over again. And yes I do have a chat tab with the emotes turned off and I do switch to it on occasion, but then of course I miss emotes my friends are doing. It's not ideal.
Freedom of expression is about being arrested by the government for saying stuff. It has no bearing on this case, which is about wanting to stop people from being obnoxious in an online chat.
I'm also kinda sick and tired of these little bi*ch ass Lalafell spamming emotes all day long :D They are literally trying to sound it like s*x. Too bad i/we cant disable emotes for specific people :( Or even better: Remove them compeletly or make them invisible or something.
Go to your emotes tab, pick any emotes, keep hitting it as fast as you can for 5 mins straight, look at your chat log and tell me again that's "freedom of expression", it's literally no different from RMT bot spam.
Come on people, social rules aren't hard to follow, there's no need to go out of your way to inconvenience everyone else around you, this isn't a single player game, if you want to spam emotes turn the text off.
Guess we cant do anything about those attention beggars except muting the sound, biting our ears off or scratching our eyes out.
actually emote spam too much will get you banned though for ToS for Spam...very long ago i was spamming throw snowball to my friends then i receive a email warning for spamming emote and breaking ToS for Spam lol. so pretty much i always turn off my emote log for everyone now for spamming coz emote spamming always happen in my fc gathering since we taking group pictures before /gpose even come out lol
It's like that in other MMO games as well. In WoW being reported for emote spam will get you a warning or temp ban, depending on account's track record.
You also have to remember, 20 other people should not have to move away, black list a person, or change emote settings because someone wants to spam emotes in a populated area.
I'm not against emotes, they have done a great job with some of them! I like the ocassional wave/dote/hug for sure :)
But.... when ppl do spam them I leave the area, to me (just an opinion)...but it screams of someone who is desperate for attention and I really don't gravitate to those personalities in a game nor rl.
I would like an option to see emote text/sounds etc from anyone in a ls I am in ,fc, friends list but that's it. Even with that limitation I know of a few that always seem to seek this attention but again..I will just leave. lol
IMO it should not be against tos..that's a tad harsh , simply give us more options to control what we see and hear from emotes in general :)
First of all: I don't RP, i don't spam emotes and i just read it in the Forum. Second of all: This is still not anything bad since it is a game character and not my RL body.
People take things like emote spam or stepping into their character as a reason to report someone should lear the difference between RL and a game and should stop to take every single fart serious.
I don't see the issue as long as the emote notification in chat is turned off by the person. You could also just mute the volume in game but emotes and the spamming of them will always be a constant. There are some people who will be trolls though but those sadly are unavoidable just blacklist and ignore those types.
As someone who uses emotes a lot with fellow master race Lalafell's I have never ever seen or heard anyone come up to us and complain etc on my server at least. In fact many others join in and add to the wonderful sounds of a group of adorable emote spamming Lalafells. You will always hear a Lalafell before you see them - that's a truth. xD
There honestly are other Issues they should take care of as first Priority then Emote Spam or .... "Being Stuck multiple times in a Character".
Sorry to say, but the Support is really horrible in the Game after Reporting Bots for a Year now, even the ones admitting it won't get banned.
Like really... Fighting against Cheaters in any sort should be one of the higher Priorities, but then it doesn't really take much to get a Ban if you just call someone a Dork xD
*Looking at that BLM in A4S with his Spellspeed Exploit running around now in The Feast*
Doesn't have to flood chat. This is confirmed by a GM when I asked. If you use emotes 10+ times a minute, you are breaking ToS. It doesn't matter what it is. It doesn't matter if it floods chat. It doesn't matter if it's a private area with friends and just one person barely in range threw a fit over it. You don't even have to list the right emotes.
Just a little mention, from someone who did accidentally chat spam /huh in Idylshire. (SOWWY) It is something they take action on, but I do also wish they put a bit more attention on it. I can't deny my /huh, but I was reported for /yes. Made the process confusing to fix.
You can filter out emote text in your chat log if you do not want to see emotes.
.....I can't believe this is an actual thing. Alright, first off, seriously, just turn the chat off or make a tab. I did it myself and I enjoy not having to see that shit. For those that then say I can't seem my friend's emotes, you can see their motions. You can see them performing the emote, so....what is the problem? Also, just turn back to the tab that shows emote when you are around your friends. I honestly think Emotes are dumb. I don't see a point to them and have only ever use the persistent dances every now and again. Every problem that has been brought up in this thread, can be fixed with not even a second of your life. And hearing people say that, "Oh, but I shouldn't have to!", well, I shouldn't have to hear you complain! And I know exactly what people are going to say, "Don't come to the forums!". Well, don't go to crowded areas! That'll fix your problems too!
Since it's against the ToS(...why?) just go ahead, quietly report them. Maybe let them know it's against ToS and they could face punishment. They will laugh, you will report, then when it comes, they'll find it the hard way. Though....once again. Why? It's like, nothing makes anyone happy anymore!
Because spam is spam >_>
Whether you do it with stock emotes, abilities, by copy/pasting cooking recipes into the chat, shouting your market board listings into the world or making up fake gil seller websites and advertising those - It doesn't matter. Spam is spam. And you're not allowed to spam, because spamming is disruptive.
I don't get why this behavior is a thing in the first place, but considering that there are people IRL who seem to think smoking in a tightly packed bus is good manners, I'm really not surprised it is.
i can handle the chat spam even though its still spam...
i still have a problem with somebody spamming emotes on me, especially the paint emote. its really bad when you're just talking to somebody and they're there spamming it. some people really think its funny and will jsut follow you around a plaza doing it.
They should have a toggle for emote animation just like they have right now for the text.
I really do understand where you're coming from, and there will probably be a day when I think it should be more controlled (some people really go ham on emotes sometimes)
But speaking from an un-annoyed mind, I almost think the game needs them. Moved to the game from Guild Wars 2 in 2019 with SHB pre-release and the first thing I noticed was how *dead* the chat in cities felt.
The "over the head" chat bubbles that I was so used to in Gw2 were gone, and /say was so limited. People rarely said anything in /yell or /shout. For a while I wondered if my chat bar was configured wrong or something.
Like I'd see 50+ people in Limsa and maybe a single conversation or none.
Lion's Arch back in GW2 felt so alive (for me at least). Felt like the chat bubbles really helped people engage with each other.
In FF14, emotes are all you GET sometimes. Might be annoying when theyre spammed, but I think it might be worse if theyre restricted.
What is going on in the last couple of days? So many troll threads.
Aside from the fact that this is a dead thread, please don't be a douchebag and report people for emoting. Like...there are literally way better things you could be doing with your life. Some people just get excited and pump out multiple emotes in a row. They don't deserve a strike or a trip to gaol for that.
Yeah, it's violating the ToS to spam emotes. You can get reported and have a notice at your account forever. I wish you could make them disappear from your chat after more than 3-5 repetitions. could be a better design. I do have a report for spamming embrace on a friend, from 5 years ago. It will forever be there and it will never be cleansed lol. I saw a lot of people spamming emotes but I do not report, I just tell them to be careful or someone can report them. I don't want the same for others :P
